Ambushed

Once the group was done with their assessment they left the Adventurers Guild. The Guild Master Lester could only sigh as he saw the group leave. 'It was such a hectic day today, so much paperwork will be needed to be done because of this one incident.' Lester went back to his room were a mountain of paperwork was waiting for him.

The group were walking towards the inn that they were going to stay at for the night. They needed to rest first before heading towards Lin's Uncle's place.

Ren who was silently following the group suddenly smiled. 'I knew it, cliche villains like him would definitely do something stupid like this.' Ren who was constantly using his mana to feel the surrounding notice a group of people.

Ren could sense a group of people following them, there were some on the roof, the others were walking while hiding right behind them. Ren snickered, this group of idiots, were most probably being led by the stupid guy called Kriel, in all likelihood they're here for revenge.

Ren already decided to not spare Kriel this time. When the group reached an area almost devoid of people, Ren abruptly stopped.

"What's the matter Ren?" Brian asked confused by Ren's sudden halt.

"Hey! How about you guys come out already?!" Ren grabbed Lin and placed him beside himself, while he shouted his provocation. When Jason and Brian heard Ren's words they heightened their senses and gripped their weapons.

"Hmph, you already knew we were following you and you still didn't run, and instead provoked us even more... You're arrogance will be your undoing YOU SHITTY BRAT!" Kriel appeared from behind Ren's group, he then he signaled his men to show themselves.

A group of people on the roof were aiming their bows at them, while the group behind them started to surround them.

Ren chuckled, "Why should I run from the likes of you? If the lion is surrounded by some mutts should it be bothered by them?... You weaklings think you ambushed us, but in truth you just came to meet your deaths!" Ren released the full extent of his killing intent and directed it towards the enemy group.

When the group who had witnessed Ren's mana burst awhile ago felt his killing intent they wanted to smack their past selves. They thought if they prepared a bit they could overwhelm Ren, this was based on their initial assumption on how strong Ren was. Turns out Ren didn't even release a tenth of his abilities that time.

The enemy group who felt Ren's overwhelming killing intent knelt and started crying and puking. What kind of monster did their party leader provoked, wasn't this the same as provoking death himself?

Kriel feeling the overwhelming killing intent encroach his very being started regretting everything that he had done. He was a fool who let his pride get the better of him. Wasn't he the one whose arrogance became his undoing?...

Ren seeing the reaction he wanted lessened his killing intent and chuckled. Feeling the killing intent lessen Kriel looked at Ren who was now standing before him. "Don't worry I will give you a fighting chance. I will not participate in this battle and you too should not participate. I will let Brian and Jason handle your group. If your group wins and is able to beat Brian and Jason then I won't mind letting you guys go free. But if your group loses I would grant you a swift death. Also if you harm even a hair on these two I would annihilate even your souls." Ren pointed at Lin and Michael, the adventurers who heard Ren's words nodded vigorously.

Ren then sat beside the shivering Kriel "Let the match begin!" On that signal the bowmen on the roof shot their arrows at Jason and Brian.

Brian took cover behind a building while Jason was able to cut down all the approaching arrows. The men with swords, spears, and knives surrounded Jason and attacked. Jason being bombarded by arrows and attacks on the ground was only barely able to defend.

Suddenly the arrows that were raining down stopped. When they looked at the roof the archers where located they saw Brian stabbing the archers to death. The archers who where at the high ground were so focused on Jason that they forgot about Brian who hid behind a building.

Without the support of the archers the people who were fighting Jason were being beaten one by one. When Kriel saw his men being killed one by one he knew he had no hope for survival. Out of desperation he grabbed Lin and took out a knife from his pocket pointing it at Lin's neck.

Kriel was about to threaten Ren when he felt something sharp and cold pass by his neck. In the next instant Kriel saw a surreal scene of his headless body falling down. He knew that Ren had beheaded him, he saw Ren saying something, "I did warn you, but you were too stupid to understand."

That was the last thing Kriel heard before falling into eternal darkness.

"So how was it? Tell me Jason what do you feel after killing a bunch of people?" Ren approached his pseudo student.

Jason looked at Ren blood stains all over his face and body. "It didn't feel like I thought it would... It didn't feel heroic nor did it feel righteous. When I heard stories of heroes killing evil, I thought it was exciting, but now that I have actually done it... It feels tasteless." Jason looked downwards seemingly mourning for the lives he just took.
