18 Chapter#18: Another visit

"We're going to visit the house again today." Jenifer told Medora as she came back to the room after her breakfast, "Do you want to come along with us?"

"The house…which house?" Medora asked.

"The lake house, your old house Medora." told Jenifer, "Well, it's okay if you're not comfortable to go there."

"I'd love to go with you all." smiled Medora.

Soon Jack arrived with Lauren and picked up Jenifer along with Medora. They were soon on their way to the lake house. On their way, the talked and laughed but Jenifer seemed quiet and only interested to talk to Medora.

"I think Jack would die if I and Jack get related." Jenifer told Medora.

"What made you think this?" Medora inspected.

"Last night the nightmare I had…" Jenifer told her dream to Medora which she had last night about Jack.

"Nightmares are only nightmare Jen. They aren't connected to your real life." Medora tried to make Jenifer calm, "You should not let these nightmares over power your life."

Lauren felt strange. She felt jealous of Medora because Jenifer never gave much attention to any of her friends except for Lauren and now Jenifer was only giving her attention to Medora.

Jack found a way to take the car to the house. Jenifer could see the house as they went nearer and nearer. As closed they went to that cursed house, she got more petrified.

"So ladies, we're here." Jack stopped the car just in front of the house.

The autumn breeze blew. The crows flew up in air. The sun looked pale and dull. The sky had beautiful colors. The lake seemed as pure and clean as before. The swing slowly moved due to the cold moving wind.

Everyone except for Jenifer got out from the car. "Don't you want to come inside the house?" Lauren asked Jenifer.

"No, I'm fine here in the car." Jenifer uttered, "You guys go get the work finished."

"We can't do it without you." Spoke Lauren.

"Jen look at me." Jack sat by the car's door, held her hands and looked into her eyes, "I told you before and I'm telling you now that I won't let anything happen to you. I know you're afraid. Why wouldn't you be? If I were you, I would have also been afraid to go inside that cursed house but don't make yourself weak."

"No means no." Jenifer got her hands out of hold, "Aren't you people getting what I'm saying!"

"Why are you even shouting Jen?" cried Jack.

"You both go inside, I'll bring her with me." said Medora to Jack and Lauren.

They both stood at the front door of the house to notice Jenifer and Medora.

"Jenifer look into my eyes." Medora sat beside her and said in a soft tone.

"Now what?" Jenifer spoke out while looking into Medora's eyes.

"What do you see?" asked Medora.

"It's just me." Jenifer told.

"But my eyes see a fighter, fighting with her fears, the strongest and the bravest who is not having any kind of word such as 'give up' in her dictionary. That girl is not just 'me', that's Jenifer who's my sister. Chin up now and come. We won't be able to work without you and you won't be able to fight your dread just by running away. Jack and Lauren need you and so do I."

Jenifer got out from the car and towards the house she went. Jack and Lauren stood stunned looking at Jenifer and Medora. Jenifer went inside and so as Medora after her. Medora gave a mock smile to Jack and Lauren while going inside the house.

"Something's not right here." whispered Lauren to Jack.

Lauren and Jack had to take the pictures and Jenifer had to write the details of the house. Lauren and Jack were downstairs and were talking about how strange Jenifer was acting.

"I can't guess what's happening to her." said Jack.

"This girl Medora, she seems like a devil to me." exclaimed Lauren.

"And today Jenifer won't listen to both of us instead she did what Medora asked her to do." sighed Jack.

"I'm afraid she would not hurt her."

"Hurt her…like how?"

"Medora is sick. Her past is filled with darkness. If she tries a lot still she can't forget her dreadful past. What if she tries to hurt Jenifer the same way she was hurt years ago."

"Chill out Lauren. This won't happen. I believe that Jenifer is trying to help Medora forget her past. What if Jenifer is giving all her attention to Medora to make her feel that she's not alone here in this world and trying to make her live happy again. You know how hard it is to loose ones parents and even harder to see them dying just in front of your eyes."

Meanwhile Medora told Jenifer about her life in the upper part of the house.

"We were the happiest family in true words but one dark moment changed my life and after that the darkness won't leave me." told Medora.

"It's okay Medora. I know what happened is neither forgettable nor forgivable but I'm always there for you. Remember you called me sister today, so being your sister I'll never leave you." Jenifer smiled.

"I'm glad that I found you and to have a sister like you."

They both hugged.

Medora showed Jenifer the house. She showed her room, where she used to eat and play. She showed her the rooms, the kitchen and every single spot of that house but Jenifer found it strange not to see any family picture in the house. There was not any picture of Medora or her parents. This seemed weird to Jenifer but she didn't ask Medora about it.

The work was done and they had to go back now. Before getting in the car, Lauren tried to talk to Jenifer, "Have you yet told Jack about what you feel for him?"

"No I haven't. What made you ask this? Don't think about me much, try to handle yourself. I'll tell him when I want to." Jenifer pressed and went in the car.

Lauren was shocked at Jenifer's behavior. On their way back home Jenifer remained quiet. No one spoke. There was silence in the car.

Why was Jenifer acting like that? Is Medora really a danger for Jenifer or is just Lauren jealous of Medora for stealing her friend away from her?
