10 Chapter#10: Finding Medora

Jenifer arrived home and John opened the door for her. It was too late so everyone was asleep.

"It's too late Jen. Look at the time" John spoke out.

"It was a busy day today." told Jenifer in a tiring voice.

"Oh what happened to your head?" asked John when he looked at the bandage on her head.

"My foot slipped in the woods. It's just a little scratch." Jenifer told.

"Why were you in the woods?"

"I told you about my article. I went to visit the place."

"Okay but be careful and take care of yourself. You look so tired and weak."

"Yeah Dad. Dad can I ask you something?"

"Sure why not."

"Am I adopted?"

"What made you think that you're not my own child? Why are you asking such question?"

"It just popped in my head. I'll go get some sleep now."

Jenifer went to her room. She wasn't feeling okay. She sat on the sofa in front of her window and tried not to sleep so that she would not have any more terrible dreams but she slept not knowing that she was sleeping. She heard creepy voices which made her open her eyes. She was on the sofa in front of the window and that terrible house was just outside as if it was in her neighborhood. The house came closer and closer and the voices got louder and louder. Jenifer tried to get up from the sofa but something was holding her there. She closed her eyes tightly and started to yell, "This is just a dream! This is just a dream!"

Suddenly the voices fainted and the alarm could be heard in great silence. Jenifer opened her eyes. The sunlight was coming from the window. It was the next day now. Jenifer realized she slept and also that she can fight her dreams, she needs to be brave and to have faith in herself.

She got dressed, ate her breakfast and off she went to work. She was happy and fresh today because she fought her dream and felt brave enough.

"Hey Jack!" entered Jenifer with a fresh face.

"Back with a new spirit." stated Jack.

"I think we should go to the orphanage to look for Medora" Jenifer said.

"I thought that too and I'm trying to find its location."

"I hope we get to meet her today."

"Me too. Here's the location. It's not much far. Just some kilometers away from here."

They both went in the car and towards the orphanage. They talked and laughed along the way. Jenifer realized that it was not the same Jack she knew. It took them an hour to reach there. Jenifer and Jack went in. They looked here and there. "Can I help you both with something?" asked a lady dressed in white sitting at the counter.

"We need to find Medora. Can you help us please?" Jenifer spoke out.

"I am sorry but you should tell this to the police station if your child is lost." uttered the lady.

"She's not our lost child." told Jenifer.

"So who is she?" asked the lady.

"I don't know her." pressed Jenifer.

"Then how would I know" posed the lady.

"Let me talk here Jen." interrupted Jack.

"Listen, Medora was brought here twenty years ago. We need her information. It's important. We are from the YOURS NWESPAPER AND MAGAZINE and we have the permit to meet her."

"Yes but I'll have to ask Madam first." uttered the lady.

"But we have the permit, see!" Jenifer showed the permit.

"Ma'am I can see that but I can't give you the detail. I'll have to ask Miss. Margret first. She's the owner and I'm not allowed to give any detail to anyone without asking her. I'm working here form almost eight years and I don't know any girl named Medora. You told me that she was brought here about twenty years ago she must be a big girl now." told the lady.

"You are not getting us." exclaimed Jenifer.

"When will she come?" asked Jack.

"She'll be here till 2:00 pm." told the lady.

"It'll take another hour!" cried Jenifer.

"You both can wait at the chairs there until she arrives." said the lady.

"We'll go get something to eat and will be back till 2:00 pm" told Jack'.

"I'll tell her about you both when she arrives." told the lady.

Jack and Jenifer went to a nearby restaurant. They had some fried fish and some sandwiches with black drinks. The food was tasty. Jenifer didn't hate Jack now; in fact she liked his company. They both had a lot of fun. It was about 2:15 pm when they came back to the orphanage. The owner had just arrived.

"Ma'am here they are. The people I was telling you about." told the lady to Margaret.

"So you both want to know about Medora?" Margaret asked.

"We only want some information about her. We're having the permit to do so." told Jack

"Come with me" Margaret took them both to her office. She ordered some juice for them and they started their talk.

"So why do you both want to know about her?" Margaret posed.

"We're writing an article on the house beside the lake for the magazine next month." told Jenifer.

"We want to talk to her and we also want to read her biography and want to know about the incident." uttered Jack.

"Hold on let me call for her file." Margaret called for Medora's file, "Here it is. You can have a look on it."

Jack and Jenifer read the whole file. It had the same story which they had read on the internet. She was adopted by a woman named Sarah, who lived in an apartment near Jack's house.

"Medora was a quiet and beautiful girl." told Margret, "She was one of my favorite. She was an angle in true words but was cut deep inside. The situation she faced in such a little age was unbearable for her but she was brave enough to fight it. Here's the address where you can find her."

"Thank you for your help." thanked Jenifer.

"My pleasure! If you need any help regarding me I'll be always there." offered Margaret.

"We're honored" Jack uttered.

Both of them without wasting any time went to see Medora. It took them about one and a half hour to reach there.

It was a big building of furnished apartments. Medora's apartment was on the third floor, number 52. It was locked when they reached there. They waited outside the apartment for Medora to come. After about half an hour a boy came to them and told them that the girl who lives here have been shifted three years ago and only comes on Saturday to visit.

Jenifer and Jack were also now tired so they decided to go home and take rest. There were four days ahead till Saturday.

Will Jenifer be able to find Medora or all her questions would be left unanswered?
