7 Chapter 6

Days turned into weeks with Evan not sleeping at home. Some days he comes home in the mornings and some days he gets back after work the following day. I don't even bother to ask where he gets a change of clothes because I might not like the answer. The day before yesterday he slept at home but we argued because I decided that I will not share a room with him.

I sleep in one of the guest rooms because I just cannot stand him anymore. I do want an answer or an explanation of what is going on and why he doesn't come home but I hate being lied to so I don't even ask him. Day after day he is lying to my face and it makes me so mad. I had to tell someone about it before I end up killing my assistant. She has been at the receiving end of my tantrums and moods these days and I am surprised she didn't quit yet. I called Erastus so we meet for lunch. Lucky for me he didn't have much to do so we met up at Linda's café.

A part of me knows that Erastus is not the right person to talk to about this but I have no other choice. Katie is busy and has a wedding to plan. She is so happy right now and I don't want her to have to worry about me, and Rose and I are not that close that I would open up to her. Not that she is a bad listener or something it is just that she and I aren't close that we share unless it's Erastus we are talking about. When I got to the café, I found him already inside so I joined him. "So? " He asked the moment I sat down. I gave him a stare because I had no idea what he was asking. "I am waiting for you to tell me whether I was right or wrong." He said with a huge grin on his face. That's when I realized what he was referring to and I immediately told him that I wasn't pregnant and he just shook his head. He asked if I took the test and I told him the truth that I didn't which led him to slip one into my purse. As much as I wanted to ask him why he had a pregnancy test with him and how he got it, I just gave him a threatening look. It is embarrassing and I have no idea why I am still friends with him.

"Okay, spill it. What is wrong with you?" he asked. I seriously had no idea how to start this conversation but he just gave me an opening. "It's nothing. It's Evan, he hasn't been sleeping at home lately and I can't help but think he might be seeing someone else." I said looking down. "For how long?" he asked and I told him it was about three weeks. "Of the two years you two have been married, is this the first time or has it happened before?" he inquired. For those who know me well they know I hate being asked too many questions but I brought this upon myself and I had to answer. " Erastus, you are an engineer, not a detective. No, this is the first time."I told him. I told him how it all happened after Suzanne showed up and he immediately put the pieces together. I knew he would say that and I just didn't want to hear it.

" So, this Suzanne shows up at your house, and she did not know Evan was married and then your dear husband starts sleeping God knows where and you still think it is all just a coincidence?" He asked in disbelief. I have to admit that he just made it a bit dramatic but he has a point. I guess he just pointed out something that has been in front of me for some time now and I just refuse to accept that it was right in front of me. I didn't reply though because I seriously had nothing to say and I thought I earned myself a scolding session. "Look, Liz, I don't want to be the one to tell you whether or not your husband is cheating on you because I don't want to create a rift in your marriage. It's all up to you to either find out whether he is cheating on you or you can trust him and wait at home until he decides that he wants to start sleeping at home again," he said. His words were a bit harsh but he made a good point.

After lunch, Erastus dropped me off at work because I took a cab when I went to the café. I didn't feel like driving. I proceeded with my work but I couldn't concentrate one bit because I know I had to take that pregnancy test whether I want to or not because I hate being in suspense. So I left work early and went home. It took me about 30 minutes to decide whether to take it or not but I ended up doing it and I was indeed pregnant. A huge part of me was very happy but there was that part of me that is not too happy with everything going on at home at the moment. Evan and I aren't in a good place these days and I just wish I didn't discover my pregnancy now when all we do is argue. All I know is that if it comes to a point where I have to choose, I'd choose the baby. I decided to go to the nearest pharmacy to buy another test just to make sure it's true. When both tests gave the same result, I was finally sure. I called my mom and told her the good news and she was very happy. She and my five siblings all live in New York and I only get to go there sometimes. Dad died a few years back and she is all we've got.

I am still unsure if this is a good time to tell Evan so I just started cooking dinner to take my mind off things. Evan didn't come home today and I have to confess I was not expecting him to.

The following day while I was at work and just when I thought I could have something to eat since the meeting I was in earlier took up my lunch hour there was a knock at my office door. I groaned and put on a fake smile after I asked the person to come in. Erastus I walked in with a serious face. "May I know what you are doing here?" I asked. He smiled before he said he came to talk to the CEO about getting a job here. I laughed. "I don't know what a mechanical engineer would do in a company that produces mascara and foundation," I said mocking him. "I am joking, I was in the area and I decided to say hi and probably get my suspicions confirmed," he said. I thanked him and kept starring at him like I didn't hear the last part. "Fine! You were right." I told him and he congratulated me before asking, "How did Evan take it when you told him?" I just starred at him and I guess he put the pieces together that I haven't told him yet. "Look, how about Rose, Katie and I come over today and help you prepare dinner and you can tell him over dinner. Call him and tell him to be on time for dinner," he suggested and I liked the idea for once. After talking about this and that, he decided to leave. I called Evan and told him I needed to talk to him. He said he will come to dinner and I hung up. I am very excited and looking forward to this dinner because our lives are about to change.
