5 The Gift of the Gods

Miss woke up somewhere dark. Wherever she was, it was a small triangular room. Even the door was triangular. There was a fire outside, illuminating the place a little. A silhouette was sitting by the door, smiling as he watched the rowdy people outside the room. She looked around. There were stacks of flat paper on her right and a small rectangular object that lit up when she touched it. It was too small to be a lamp. What in the world was it?

She sat and the silhouette turned to her, startling her a bit.

"You're awake!" he said, facing her "You've been out for quite a while."

The man shifted his position so he could speak to her properly. "How are you feeling?"

Miss stayed silent. "Where am I, sir?"

"Oh, right... We're at our camp. You passed out after I fought the snake, remember? I wasn't sure what to do so I carried you here. Are you hungry? Would you like something to eat?"

"Where's Alexander?" she asked, hoping someone she knows was around this unfamiliar place.

"He's... outside. He was quite worried about you. Do you want to talk to him?"

She nodded and stood. The man exited the place and allowed her to go out. She walked out and saw multiple people sitting in front of the fire wearing weird clothes, holding something square that lights up just by holding it. It looked like the object that lit up inside the room earlier. The other women looked badly behaved. She looked around and spotted Alexander. As she approached him, he looked... different. He was bigger. It was as if he aged so fast.

"Hey" He said when he noticed her. "How are you feeling? What happened back there?"

Everything was changed and she didn't know where she was. She was starting to panic. She ran to the nearest person, who looked surprised.

"Will you help me? I need to get back to Silverstar. My name is Miss! Do you know where Silverstar is?" she pleaded.

"What? Are you... okay? You're... kinda freaking me out, Katie." the man she approached replied.

"Katie?" Miss muttered under her breath.

Is that my real name? What kind of a name is Katie? Who names their child Katie?

She felt the energy being drained from her body and her vision blurred. Her grip on the person's clothing loosened. She closed her eyes, felt her body get heavy as she fell to the ground and she drifted into unconsciousness.

"Alexander" she heard Alaster say "Your mother wants to see you."

She opened her eyes and saw Alexander walk out of the room. Alaster saw her wake up and asked if she was okay, to which she replied with a nod.

"May I see her as well?" Miss requested, something that puzzled Alaster.

Alaster wondered why but agreed anyway. Miss was unaware of his wife's actions. It would be best to watch her, just in case. Miss stood and walked past Alaster, heading towards the master's bedroom with no hesitation whatsoever. Miss stood at the foot of the bed and to Alaster's surprise, his wife showed no objections to her presence at all.

"Alexander." his wife muttered, weak "I apologize for my behaviour earlier."

Alexander showed no emotion. For once, he did not know what to think. There were so much that happened today that he never thought he would see in others. He thought he had it all figured out. But Miss was suddenly a grown up and his mother was suddenly having fits of rage? Which should he believe? Is this side of his mother genuine? If he doesn't know what to think, how does he know which emotions to feel?

He looked over to Miss who looked like she knew something nobody seemed to know. Somehow, that truth made her feel sad. Instantly, a thought hit him. Everything happened because Miss showed up. If this much happened in only a day... What would happen to Silverstar if she continued to stay?

"Alexander" Alaster interrupted Alexander's thoughts "Do you want to say something?"

Alexander turned to his father, who gave him an approving nod. "It's alright, mother." Alexander smiled, half- hearted "I'm sure you meant well."

"I'm getting tired, Alaster. I'm going to sleep. Allow me to enjoy this gift." his wife told him and Alaster dismissed the children.

Miss sniffled. Alaster gave her a pat on her head and told her it was all going to be fine. He accompanied the children to have their dinner before going to bed himself.
