16 Bait

Lanie thought that maybe it's better if she will let Jeybi come with her. She heard that Jaquinto's clients are big-time's businessmen and women. Jeybi knew well-known people so she can gather some new information again. And she knew Jeybi can help her with this.

She breathed and calmed herself before dialing Lieutenant Alvarez's number. She needed to say something... important to him. She doesn't know if she was right with this one but she has this feeling that she might be right.

If ever that her hunch was true. She doesn't know if she can face him anymore. She doesn't think she can face… Tyler Lancaster.

Lieutenant Alvarez was on his way to the Chief's office. Today is their meeting about Gerpacio's case. He also informed her that the person who ordered to re-investigate this case will be coming.

When he arrived, his team was already there. And there, he saw that person. He was slightly shocked to see him sitting there, emotionless and always having this dark and authoritative aura.

"Tyler Lancaster. It's finally nice to meet you. Well, should I say, nice to meet you again?" He greeted him with a smirk on his lips. Tyler just looked at him. When the Chief started the meeting, they all became very serious and attentive as the atmosphere in the room became heavy and intense. They all thought that that was not because of the case but it was because of the presence of Tyler Lancaster inside the room. Even their Chief felt that he was very nervous right now.

"How's the case going?" Their Chief tensed upon hearing Tyler's question. Lieutenant Alvarez beamed and then explained the current situation of the case.

"We don't still have strong evidence except for the video. It is hard to gather evidence-" Lieutenant Alvarez stopped when Tyler raised his hands like he did not want to hear any stupid excuses from him.

"Your father didn't leave any files about this case? Lieutenant?" Tyler asked straightforwardly, causing him to be speechless and his team to look away.

"Your father was the one who was assigned to this case before he died, right?" Lieutenant Alvarez glared at Tyler.

"So, that was the reason why you gave me this case, Chief?" Lieutenant Alvarez said as a matter of fact. Their Chief only looked away.

"Now, let's stop the chase and tell me what was the information on those files, Lieutenant," Tyler pronounced.

Lieutenant Alvarez sighed and nodded, "When the Chief assigned me to this case, I already knew some details of this case because I read some of my father's folder about this. The persons who my father was looking for and investigating at that time were Wang and Hossler. Looking at this, the motive for the killing was money and power."

"Did you look for any special relationships between these two suspects except that they are in the business world?" Lieutenant Alvarez shook his head at him. Tyler raised his brow at him, Alvarez slightly shook his head as he looked at his team and the Chief. Alvarez sighed and got what he was trying to say. Alvarez knew about them. He knew something that normal people didn't know. Something that if he explains, people will think that he is crazy or talking nonsense.

"No. We haven't-" They are interrupted when Lieutenant Alvarez rings. It was Lanie. He looked at Tyler who was giving him a cold stare and signaled him to answer the call and put it on loudspeaker.

"Hello, this is Lieutenant Patrick Alvarez of Violent-"

"I know." Lanie cut him off. Some of his team members almost laughed, that's why he gave them a death glare.

"Excuse me," He stood up but Tyler Lancaster signaled him again to sit down. He even raised his brows at him. Lieutenant just shook his head, put his phone on the table, and turned on the loudspeaker again.

"Lanie? What is it?" He said seriously.

"Uhm, about…" They all wait for the next line Lanie will say but it never comes. The reason why they all looked at each other. Tyler creased his brows.

"About what?" Lieutenant Alvarez asked when Lanie did not speak for a minute.

"Hello? Lanie?" He spoke again. He has a bad idea about this.

"About Ondreaz, is there any news?" Lieutenant Alvarez closed his eyes. Of all the times, why did she choose to ask that at this moment? That frustrated him. Tyler shifted in his seat. He has a hunch that that was not the question she wanted to ask.

"Oh, about that. I will come to your apartment later." Lieutenant Alvarez said after he ended the call. Tyler gave him a mocking look.

"And who is this Ondrez? And who is this Lanie, Lieutenant?" The Chief asked him. He brushed his hair up using his fingers. Frustrated.

"Ondreaz is Jake Jaquinto's father. Jake is her ex-boyfriend." Tyler answered which made all of the people in the room look at him. Alvarez was also shocked. How did he know such information?

"Why didn't you tell us about him, Lieutenant?" Tyler asked him while looking directly into his eyes.

"Because I am still investigating him! I will tell you soon when I am done investigating him!" He defended.

"And what did you find out about him?" One of his team members asked.

"That Ondreaz Jaquinto is the illegitimate son of Don Thomas Gerpacio?" Tyler answered instead. Their jaws dropped at his statement. Alvarez just looked at Tyler with a shocked expression.

"I'll set another meeting soon. I'll contact you again." Tyler said to the Chief. Tyler suddenly stood up and fixed his coat. He started walking towards the door but he stopped and faced Alvarez.

"Ah! If you want to catch big fish, don't you think that you need a delicious bait for them to take your fishing rod's hook?" Alvarez was confused by what he said. "That girl. That girl might become your bait for you to catch those big fishes. Am I right?" Tyler said before leaving them confused and Alvarez in deep thought.

As usual, Lanie busied herself with work. She only recognized that she was almost done with her shift when she saw Alvarez in the lobby.

"Are you done?" He asks and sips the juice that Althea gave to him.

"Yeah. I'll just change. Wait for me here." As soon as Lanie went to their locker room to change. Alvarez kept on thinking about what Tyler said to him a while ago. Why will Lanie be his bait?

On their way to Lanie's apartment, they decided to order food in the drive-thru. Lanie was not sure what she would say to him about Ondreaz Jaquinto. And what will he find out about her but she was sure of one thing, Lieutenant Patrick Alvarez is the key for her to finding out who is that person who keeps on investigating the case. Although, she already has a hunch who it was... she was still hoping that she was wrong about it.

Patrick Alvarez scanned her apartment for a minute before sitting on the sofa while Lanie was preparing their dinner. "So, what about Ondreaz Jaquinto? Or should I say, Ondreaz Gerpacio?" Lanie asked. Alvarez took out all the files he gathered while investigating Ondreaz. Lanie looked at each of them.

"When we looked at it carefully, there's a reason why they massacre that family," Lanie said while checking all the files.
