Oneirans

The life of Aestor, a wavy haired boy with reddish brown eyes, was calm and discrete since he was born. His luck was written before he could even talk. He had an older brother named Hadel and all eyes were on him.

Aestor lived in Rosia a small city in the continent of Hadazia where families needed their sons to keep their name and power intact.

He wasn't from a noble family but his parents worked for the Community so they needed their first born to have great achivements to secure their status.

The Community was the large association in charge of the power system of his world.

Not everybody could access to that power but every being contributed with the energies collected in their sleep.

Even thought the possibilities of this system were immense the Community was in charge of imposing restrictions.

The fortunate ones who could access to that power were called oneirans, divided in dream oneirans and nightmare oneirans.

Children usually find out at around 7 years old to what of this factions they belonged. For example Aestor's brother was a dream oneiran like his parents, while he found out he was a nightmare oneiran like his aunt who lived in the capital. Feeling misunderstood at 12 in your own home was not uncommon but belonging to different factions didn't help.

He wanted a change, he wanted the exciting life of the oneirans, and that change could happen the next day. It was the date of the official awakening. Every end of the year when kids turned 12 years old they were invited to ceremonies in one of the two oneiric towers of the city.

Even his parents were excited, they had dinner together. His brother had a free day from his academy and was in a great mood, they didn't always get along but the day of the awakening ceremony was important to everyone in the country and a lot of celebrations were held.

After dinner Aestor went to his best friends' house they had three hours before it all started.

"Hey Aestor! Let's get out of here if I don't walk for a bit I'll go crazy before the ceremony starts"

Yeray, one of the twins, was a very anxious boy and the idea of being with their pre-ceremony excited parents for three hours was a nightmare.

"Oh c'mon Yeray.... I'm joking you are absolutely right let's have a walk"

Jaenna was no different than his brother on that aspect

They both looked at the honey haired boy waiting for a response

"Good night to you both! I guess I can't invite myself to your house so I don't really have a choice right? "

Yeray sighted at this

"Well, I wouldn't be surprised if our mom had a room for you"

"Yeah and our dad is probably waiting for you to see his new book collection"

added Jaenna jokingly

Aestor was really good with parents, with the exception of their own.

"Oh, the collection I forgot, tell him I'll visit next week. Let's walk to the river, the weather is great"

Jaenna and Yeray nodded.

Aestor met the twins in class they lived close to his house and they were both nightmare oneirans, kids were divided in factions since they were 8 years old.

"So... tell us Aestor, what do you think you'll awaken?"

The most common powers of the oneirans were the elements because of the easy understanding of the general population, but there were other powers allowed by the Community like those related to the mind or even time but of course within the Community guidelines and respecting the traditions and mythology of every city.

"I really have no idea, for what I know the first power awakened by my mom was music hypnotism, she studied in the mind institute; my dad awakened body enhancement so he went to the body institute, and you know Hadel, he is a double awakened oneiran with wind and healing powers so who knows"

Usually children's awakenings followed a similar line than their parents but the posibilities were wide. With Aestor being a nightmare oneiran and having a completely different power source than their parents he could only think about his aunt, who first awakened the mind control power and like his mom went to the mind institute but from the nightmare faction.

Jaenna listened to her friend calmly

"You situation is trickier than most of the people of our class, that's for sure, but I know you'll awaken a really great power"

"We'll probably be elementalist... mom and dad being water and wind awakened... I like both"

The streets were more lively than the usual, a lot of kids were hanging out with their friends and families before the ceremony, they needed to get tired and have some fresh air before going to bed that night.

The three friends continue talking and walking by the river until the clock struck 11 pm. They needed to be in their beds at 12 pm.

His door was open and their parents were waiting anxiously, Aestor concluded they probably thought he was going to be late.

Her mother nervously gave him the sleeping ceremony pill and a kiss goodnight.

"Aestor let's go to bed! The hour is coming and you need to be asleep"

Aestor knew the time had come, he took the ceremony pill and went to bed hoping his destiny will change that night.
