2 Chapter 2: Vampire!

Adam decided to follow Emma's intel and follow Ringo after his club activities are done, while keeping an eye on him throughout the day.

For his lunch break, however Aram decided to check out Ringo's homeroom and clubroom. Well, his suspicions were cut short as he entered the classroom. It was normal to the T. That, however, didn't discourage him and as he approached the Gardening club's clubroom, the location of which he learned from Ringo's classmates. This time the room's location was much better for vampire activities, he guessed. He didn't really know what vampires do aside from drinking blood and hiding from the sunlight. Anyhow, the clubroom's number was 4G, on the last fourth floor of the school. It was in the rightmost corner of the floor and the toilet wasn't close to it at all.

"So that's how he does it.", Adam excitedly thought, "He lures his victims here. Drinks from them and after club activities are done he disposes of the corpse. Classic case of a school vampire."

The case wasn't classic. There were no classic cases; there were no other cases he was aware of. His ego, inflated by the supposed discovery of a vampire, was really getting to his head.

He grabbed a shovel, which was laying on the ground, and started waving it around imagining it was the weapon that was going to bring the terrible Ringo to the ground. As he was doing that, a familiar figure entered.

"Where is it? Where is it?", Ringo murmured to himself, not really paying attention to the "vampire hunter" in the room, "Oh, hey mate! You here to join the club? Ah, of course!"

As he exclaimed, Ringo rushed to one of the drawers and got something out of it and nimbly put it in his right pocket. Adam wasn't able to make out what it was, but it couldn't have been good. It was Ringo, who was looking for it. What terrible vampire instrument was he hiding?

"Sorry about earlier, by the way. It really wasn't anything personal. I just look out for the school and try and check every new student, so that if any seem like trouble I deal with them before they could cause any."

Ringo seemed to tell the truth, but for Adam every word coming from this man's, no, monster's mouth was a lie.

"Haha, no need to worry. For the club invitation I will have to think tho."

After hearing out Adam, Ringo left quietly as before and again as before left, this time, Adam with a wink, at which Adam was disgusted as well.

"What are you checking Ringo? The students or the prey?"

The rest of the school day played out as expected. Teachers introducing themselves and what they teach. Gossip for what everyone did over the summer. After the last period ended Adam had to think of an excuse to not leave before 6 so he tried to smalltalk with Emma.

"So, you go to any clubs?"

"I am a part of the student council, it that counts.", Emma answered while packing her belongings.

"And how is the school holding up?"

"Aside from the vampire infestation", she chuckled, "it is not what I expected."

"What do you mean?", he asked with what seemed to be half-forced curiosity.

"Sofia High is famous for being the "School of the Suburbs". It is not liked by the general population of Hoperoot, because it was full of delinquents. Now it seems these problems are non-existent. I mean the people that were bullies before, now help the teachers out."

"Well, it seems you are doing a great job then.", Adam answered. Not making any connection between this conversation and the one he had with Ringo.

"Ah, and Adam", said Emma as she was leaving, "I just remembered something about Ringo."

As he heard the hellspawn's name Adam lit up.

"Your "vampire" also transferred here from the capital like you, also for his second year. Bye!"

"Does... does that mean...", Adam had never given something this intense of a thought in his life, "he is my long lost half brother that has turned vampire and now fate challenges me as to hunt him even though the same blood runs through our veins."

After wasting some more time thinking about that and doing other stupid things to waste time, the time finally came. It was 6 pm.

It was September so the sun was still looming on the horizon. After leaving the school campus, Ringo went shopping with Adam following him from behind. There was about 50 meters between the two of them. From the store Ringo got some pork cutlets, onions, garlic paste and a 2 litre bottle of elderflower lemonade. As for non-food items, Ringo bought just some polishing liquid. The one thing Adam was confused about was the garlic paste.

"Aren't vampires allergic to garlic, or something?", he thought as Ringo was leaving the store.

After this shopping break it was already 7:10 pm. The Sun was now almost completely gone with just a few rays shining. Adam was just following Ringo as he had planned. This continued for another 20 minutes. At 7:30 pm, the sunset was upon them. The light of the sun was completely snuffed out, leaving just the cold light of the street lamps to guide their eyes through the night.

"Is it just me, or is it getting kind of cold?", just as Adam thought that, Ringo shouted.

"So that's how you were hiding your presence?"

"What does he mean? Hiding my presence? I am better of not answering."

"No need to remain silent. After the sunset your bloodlust was too hard not to notice. You might want to consider exercising some restraint."

"Bloodlust?! Me? No, no he is bluffing."

As Adam's thoughts were racing, thinking of anything to do to hide himself, or to run away, he also felt something. Something evil and vile. Something not human. As he turned around, a large man in his 20s was towering over him. Adam was over 185 cm tall, so for the man to seem this large to him he must have been at least 2 meters tall. However, it was not the size of the man that was scary, nor the scarlet red eyes he had, it was the look on his face. He was looking at Adam as if he was a menu of a fine dining restaurant. He was drooling with a big smile on his face, and believe me there were no pearly whites showing. The size of his canine teeth was two, no three times that of your average human.

"Well,", the man said, "they said there will be just a main course, but look at you, a dessert as well..."

He couldn't finish his bad guy speech, as a bullet-like projectile flew towards him from the direction Ringo was in. The projectile hit the man in the right shoulder giving Adam just enough time to create around 2 meters of distance between them. The man, however, quickly recovered from the impact and tried to pursue him. As he saw the man furiously charging towards him, Adam felt someone touching his shoulder.

"Here,", said Ringo in a soothing tone, "hold this.", as he passed his groceries to Adam.

"Oh yes half brother, let's fight this vile creature of the night together and reestablish our long lost brotherly bond.", answered Adam as he clumsily received the groceries.

"What?"

"The two of you are brothers?"

"No."

"We aren't? I thought this was going to be like an epic opening to a story about long lost brothers..."

Adam couldn't finish, as he was knocked to the ground by Ringo, who hit him in the throat. This, unfortunately for Ringo, didn't make Adam fall asleep, but just knocked him down. From this point on Adam could just watch the spectacle, and oh, what spectacle it was about to be.
