Born as a fool : Part 1

March 3 2009, this day is the third day of the third lunar month

Xin Zheng Huazhong Village in Henan Province

People return to their home once a year for worshipping their ancestors on this day.

But as more and more young and middle-aged people go to work in the city, the village is mostly filled with elderly people and children, some people have simplified their customs which lead to the festive atmosphere gradually fading away.

Some people are more serious about the customs ,so they prepare some sacrifices and make some extravagant dinner.

But most of them are very simple with their customs, by having their children place an incense for the dead .

Some people don't do even this.

But the old man in Huang's house worships their ancestor every year ,even if there is only the old man and Huang ji left in the house .

After cleaning up the incense offering, the old man lit up the incense, and said sadly: "I beg of you please make Huang ji healthy...cough cough cough...".

"Grandpa! I'm eating." A young man entered the house with a dish and tidied the table very neatly.

The old man sat down with a cough and looked at his grandson sadly.

He asked: "Huang ji, what did Dr. Liang about your situation in the morning?"

The boy smiled and said, "Doctor Liang said that I am emotionally stable and that I am fine."

The old man nodded, looking at his cheerful grandson, his sadness faded.

The two grandpa and grandson were eating lunch, the old man tried to pick up vegetables, and looked at his grandson with distress.

The life of Huang ji has always been hard ,he has had problems with his brain ever since he was young.

And the pupils of his natural eyes are different from others. There is too many leukoplakia in his pupils, forming a white circle, which makes it look like the pupil is covered with small pupils.

He couldn't speak and his eyes were dull for a long time . However, a fortune-teller who was kind to him kept saying that although he was born with a double pupil , he was born to be a saint.

The old man believed him and didn't go to the doctor.

It was when he was 4 years old that they realized that something was wrong with the child as he still hadn't spoken till now.

They took him to the doctor ,after some tests the doctor said that Huang ji has only an IQ of 50 and is slightly autistic.

And not only that the double pupil was not a good sign as it was congenital cataract . So his eyesight is poor .And both eyes have astigmatism.

Since he was a child he had suffered with so many diseases which makes the old man slightly guilty for trusting the fortune teller.

These couldn't be cured but his autism only caused him to be slightly inattentive, poor in memory, and poor in thinking and language skills.

When he was 5 years old his parents went out to work and had a car accident and died.

That was the year he spoke for the first time but his parents couldn't hear him anymore .

Although they got a lot in compensation nothing can really compensate a parent to a child.

After that, his autism improved significantly, which let him speak. Although he was not that expressive , he started to understand everything others said, but he seemed relatively dull compared to a ordinary child.

Since he could talk, he always said that he could see some weird things and feel some very complicated things.

But he couldn't say what it was clearly, as if he had seen a ghost, plus he had a double pupil so the villagers started a rumor that he can see ghosts .

When his grandfather heard of it, he started scolding him : "There is nothing there! Don't talk nonsense!".

After some time Huang ji stopped mentioning it.

After the age of seven, he didn't go to a special school. Instead, he went to compulsory education school like regular children. Although his grades were low and he learned everything a few beats later than others, he was able to communicate with others.

In junior high school, it was different. He studied harder than others but he couldn't keep up with his peers at all.

The teacher started to dislike him, and his classmates started calling him a fool.

He also wanted to spend more time studying to make up for his shortcomings, but once he overuses his brain he will have a splitting headache, and even sometimes become unconscious.

Especially at night, one time he looked up at the starry sky ,he got a huge headache , he bit his lips and tried to endure but once he looked at the moon he directly fainted .

The teacher persuaded the old man to give up on the high school entrance examination due to his poor health .

In June 2008, Huang ji gave up the entrance examination for senior high school. It has been more than half a year since then he had been ploughing the fields, harvesting and threshing. These rough tasks have been done very smoothly.

Every day he carried water and cooked in a pot, he looked like an ordinary person.

In his spare time, he sat on the ridge in a daze, or stare at others and talk in a daze, or watch TV all day long.

At that time, he looked like the big idiot of the Huang family.

Day by day, the old man thought that it's okay to live a life in peace like this, but he was worried that Huang ji will never be able to marry a person forever.

He worries about his body even more. The old man's lungs have always been bad. The older he gets, the more serious his old problems have become. He kept coughing all day, his throat is full of sputum, and his hands and feet are getting tired.

He doesn't know what would happen to his grandson after his death.
