6 Prof. Silas's Second Letter

My friend Alexander,

I have just received word on Penelope's position, and I truly apologize for it. Insanity is such a horrible state of mind to endlessly sink into. A long time ago, I used to be married once, just like you, until my wife, Carol, almost went insane over the death of our first daughter, Julie. Well, her death wasn't so much a physical death as it was she just suddenly disappeared one day. She would spend hours upon hours just locking herself in her room, telling herself that it was my fault she was missing. It made me remember back a long time ago when I was determined to marry Carol. Her beautiful golden hair, her blue eyes that soothed my troubled soul. The way she held my hand whenever I cried always gave me a sense of security and a sense of hope. I had planned to ask her out to the ball with me, and I was almost certain she would have said yes...until he showed up. A football jock named Andrew had walked up to her the same day and time that I had planned to and asked her to the ball. I had thought she was going to say yes, but she immediately turned to me and threw her arms around my neck, hugging me closely. What she said to Andrew still makes me smile to this day. She told him: "I already have a date to the ball." Carol had chose me over someone devilishly more handsome than I was. I apologize, I understand how important Penelope was to you, especially since she was the last person in your family since your daughter went missing. By the way, I am planning on making a trip down to the prison later this week to talk to her on my own. Perhaps I can get something out of her that the police were unable to, me being her close friend and all. Nonetheless, I am deeply sorry for everything that has happened to you as of late. Dealing with the project, your daughter's disappearance, and now an insane wife must be crushing to you. If you ever need to talk my friend, I will always be here.

With love, Silas
