Quinn Oakhaven

The bonfire is lit, the children are celebrating, the sky is blooming with beautiful stars. It seems that the town of Rosmic, yet again has outlived every single thing in the world as it has for almost a century. Quinn just came back from the war and his broken arm hasn't healed yet, and so has his mind from all the violence and struggles he has stabbed and swung against. "Quinn." a man with a lot of bruises approach him. "Why don't you come have a drink around the bonfire? We got some people from the abandoned city to stay here, some are apparently the battalion we came across the ridges". Quinn almost didn't remember the person that started conversing with him. "Cadmus? I almost didn't recognize you with your bruised eye, what did you go against to get this?". Cadmus chuckles a little. "Well forget about it, come on. We haven't had a drink in ages after we separated at Ikaria."

Cadmus Lockehedge was a friend of Quinn long before the war, he reunited with him when they arrived at the docks of Eastern Ikaria. Three years into the fight their group came across a good sigil and they met there. Cadmus and Quinn were just 15 when the war started against the other continent, just the same old war to get lands and riches. The Lord Aven Storm-Meadow who carried this burden on his hands was not the kind of human that an average person would look up to but his ferocity gave some fear to the foes that challenged him and gave courage to the men that he charged at the ridge of Ikaria. Any Sir who had sense of the art of war would acknowledge him.

After Quinn catches up with Cadmus a bunch of soldiers looked empty for they have lost their Lord and the City of Faymyre. "Hey you!", Quinn looks toward the person that calls him. "Aren't you that Oakhaven?!". The soldiers around him look like they've seen the one who created this world and some men and women around the bonfire look excited, they murmur of what seems to be him. "Huh, you mean that Oakhaven who slayed Orcs alone in Fogwyck, I thought it was just a story". Said by the soldier next to him. "Nice to meet you sir, I'm Harwen Goldkeep." they both shake hands.

"A pleasure to meet you Harwen, I'm actually no knight so you can drop the Sir."

"You're no knight? I'm pretty sure you were, with the skills you have anyone would have deemed you to be a knight."

"Glad to be commended of my skills. But no knight uses a spear." they both chuckle.

Quinn was amazed with the battle-hardened soldiers reaction to his presence in the town square, he felt joyful for once after losing a lot in the war. His friend Cadmus commends him for what he's done for people in the war and told him that he should sit down and appreciate a few things today." A couple of soldiers gather off the bonfire of the town square to move to a bar following Quinn and Cadmus, they talk out some of the things they wound up to after the battle they share a few pints in the packed bar. The laughter throughout the remaining chaos reminded Quinn of what occurred with him and his number of companions that had his back.

Quinn was only known as Oakhaven in the Battle of Fogwyck. When the remaining Humans retreated five hundred men charged through the battlefield which has seemed to be done for hours. There was a person with a cloak as a sigil and it was a white tree with a sword cut in the middle. Soon after the battle he was commended by Lord Aven whom he aided in getting him out of the siege of Fogwyck Castle which was suicide against a race with overwhelming abilities. Quinn lost eleven good men that day. Eleven good men he has fought with ever since the war started. He was deemed a Lance-Master that day and known only by his last name 'Oakhaven'.

"I'll go on ahead, it looks like the night has caught up with me." says Quinn while walking a little weird. "What? Can't take one more shot? The Lancer of Ikaria can't take one more?" says Cadmus. The men laugh and Quinn joins in on the laughter. "Fine fine. Go ahead before you trip yourself". When he got out of the bar the town square has emptied out already and the bonfire has just gone out. It's been a long night filled with grief and triumph. "It's finally over." Quinn whispers to himself. "What the?" a light suddenly blinds him slightly and just like that he's on the ground. People are screaming, the bells are clanging. "An attack?" Quinn's wounds begin bleeding again after being propelled by a strange explosion. Quinn crawls and gets up to his feet to see a dozen Orcs running towards the town. Quinn runs towards the town square, he stumbles and fall.

"Quinn!" Harwen helps him.

"Get up man, Orcs are attacking the town. Can you use this sword?" Quinn grabs the sword.

"How the hell did the Orcs get through Eastern Ikaria? I thought these things already left!" says Quinn.

"No... These things are different, I saw one up close. It looked like they were already dead." Harwen replied.

"What?... How about the recent explosions around the town."

"I don't know... I checked one out they were just rocks, maybe they're attacking us with catapults to cripple some guards in the outskirts."

They move up to the town and got caught up with Cadmus and the soldiers. It was pure chaos in the town square. A horde of Orcs have already reached it. Cadmus falls down to the ground while being attacked by a huge Orc with a war-hammer, Quinn and Harwen rushes to aid Cadmus. Harwen stabs the Orc in the heart but the Orc was still standing and it knocked Harwen off feet, the Orc slams its hammer. Harwen evades it and gets up to his feet. Quinn shouts and slashes its head from behind twice as he struggles in decapitating it and the Orc falls of his feet. "These aren't normal things." Quinn speaks to himself, the Orcs had soft skin, their skeleton were showing and their eyes were purely glowing white. Harwen gives Cadmus a hand in standing up. They continue in slaying the remaining Orcs in the town square. Some men of the Town Guild aided Quinn and the remaining soldiers in defeating them until they reach the outskirts of Rosmic. People nearest to the east side of town were either wiped out or retreated deeper into the town. As the darkness of the night seeps more and more into the town, the lesser Orcs there are to fight. Before Quinn knew it they were at the end of the town. The Horde attack was finally over.

"Were those the only Orcs left?" Quinn asks.

"Aye, I think so. The fighting on the far north side seems to have stopped, I don't hear swords clanging anymore." Harwen replied. They both sit down on the bloody ground after the battle. A tall man in light armor approaches them. "Some of these men need help, a lot of them are severely injured. What are we to do with them Sir?" Quinn looks up in awe to the tall man. "Oh um. I'm not in charge here, you should probably ask the Town Guilds Leader. The tall man replies "I am the Towns Guild Leader". Quinn and Harwen look at each other. "Oh. I apologize, my name is Cratus Highgriffin. Since you led most of my men and known to be a veteran of the war, we should take orders from you." Quinn shakes his hand while sitting and responds with respect,

"Well, I guess these people need to get carried to the town square. Try and find more people, they might have gone under the rubble of these buildings, find a healer or surgeon and for the time being I'll go find out what happened here. Bring everyone to the town square, alright?"

"It will be done immediately."

Cratus bows and leaves. Quinn looks at Harwen and he shrugs. Cadmus approaches them.

"The town squares all good, we just need to clean all of these rubble up, where do you think these things came from?"

Quinn replies "That's what we're trying to find out right now. These things just suddenly attack at midnight and cripples our defenses with with catapults-"

"There is no catapults." Cadmus confusingly interrupts.

"Then how do the hell did these Orcs fire at us with huge flaming rocks eh?" said by Harwen.

"Unless they weren't rocks at all." Quinn recognizes something "These stars that I saw earlier, they're the exact same thing that hit me..." Quinn looks confused, "I don't know, it's weird but I swear. These things were blue and moved like a comet."

Harwen stands up and says "Where was you when this star or comet hit you, before I helped you up."

Quinn replies "Near the inn, far north of the town." he stands up "What are we gonna do there?".

"We're gonna look up close" Cadmus replied with curiosity.

"Best stick together eh, these bastards are hard." said Harwen while he kicks an Orcs corpse.

The safest way and easiest way for them to get to the north of the town was to head to the town square where all the men and women are gathered. They walk off their bruises together to reach one of the mysterious objects that landed plummeted on Rosmic. The sun rose quickly, another sight familiar to the three veterans.

"Sun is already 'ere, that was long damn battle." commented Harwen.

"Trust me we've had longer battles than this and we walked it off like nothing, ever heard of Vertice?" says Quinn while him and Cadmus are chuckling.

Harwen sighs "I was there, third battalion. It was a pain in my ass. What branch did you belong to anyway?"

Quinn tries to recall "I think I was the First of Silvercrest."

"First of Storm-Meadow." Cadmus also recalls.

"You both started out very young huh..." Harwen was shooked. "Ain't much of a "First" out there nowadays you know that, you guys are lucky..."

"All the famously known people who served and survived in the first battalion are from the Silvercrest, Storm-Meadow and Verthurst families. All the other missing families are either killed or missing." says Quinn.

"Even the last of the Paladins were killed sad to say but they were one of the protectors we looked up until the end." Cadmus ties in.

Walking for a while longer they reach and saw a lot of injured people from Rosmic. A lot of them had burns, wounds and some peoples limbs were violently severed. People are crying out for their wounds and losses but Quinn can do nothing but just reach the place they need to check out. And they finally arrive to the destroyed inn.

"Am I gonna do all the work? Come on now chop chop." Harwen while he's struggling in the removing all the rubble and wood."

Struggling in removing the remaining the bits and pieces of large rocks on the inn they find light creeping from below the pile of rocks.

"Hey I think that's it." They remove all the rubble faster and the light keeps on getting brighter."

"No, No, No! Get away!" Quinn shouts as they all get farther away from the rubble. There comes an explosion again from below and all the rubble fly up into the sky.

"You two alright?" Quinn concerned with the others.

Cadmus walks up to the inn and sees a huge rock with big cracks that light up with the color yellow. Harwen looks at Quinn and nods, "Guess you were right after all." The lights inside all of the stars in the town creep out and is getting brighter while it crawls up into the sky. It then explodes and spreads a yellow light and smoke through out the towns sky.

"That's new." Harwen says while still looking up the sky.

"Lets just get some rest. I've seen enough for today." Cadmus sighs and looks confused.

Quinn sits down and lays his back on a wall.

"What a long day."

This is literally my first time doing this. I've thought of the story for a long time, I took up drawing to "visualize" (woah what a word) some stuff. I wrote it here to immediately to keep it fresh. It's difficult. Excuse my grammar or repetitive use of words. I promise I will get better.
