43 Convincing

With that little agreement, we separated into boys and girls and decided to go to sleep.

"I'll be leaving early tomorrow, I have some work to do." (Luis)

"Working right off the bat even though it's already 4 am?" (Peter)

"Well yeah, I gotta keep my livelihood going. Don't you guys have to work too?" (Luis)

"...Yes, we have tomorrow off though." (Peter)

"All three of you?" (Luis)

"We work in the same place," adds Argus immediately.

So they met each other like that then? They have three rooms so I'd guess those two guys from their information department sleep there and all three of them sleep here.

"By the way, where am I gonna sleep?" (Luis)

"...We usually have the sofa for Argus and the beds for us so I'm not sure." (Peter)

Why does the leader sleep on the sofa?

"So I was asked to sleep here without anywhere to sleep? Nice idea." (Luis)

"Argus was the one who said it out of nowhere...um, you can sleep with one of-" (Peter)

"I'd rather die." No way in hell is I sleeping in the same bed as these guys. "Do you guys have extra blankets or something?"

"Yes." (Argus)

"Then give me some of those, I'll arrange some shit and sleep on the floor." (Luis)

"You sure you are okay sleeping on the floor?" Peter says as he starts for a closet

"Yep, I'm fine." (Luis)

"I could sleep on the floor instead of you. You are a guest after all." (Argus)

"Nah it's fine. Plus, you guys are getting old, if you sleep on the floor you'll probably hurt your back." (Luis)

"Won't you also?" (Argus)

"Not possible." (Luis)

"What do you mean?" Peter says as he reaches in for some blankets and takes them out

"As you guys know, I can use healing magic. Whenever I'm asleep or awake, doesn't matter as long as I need it, I unconsciously use healing magic. So even if I were to sleep on the floor and ended up with a stiff back, it'd be healed as it happened."

"Lucky bastard," Peter says as he walks towards me

"It's not luck, it's just an ability, that's all there is to it." (Luis)

"I guess so." (Peter)

"In that case, hand me over the blankets." (Luis)

"Here you go. Where are you gonna put them?" (Peter)

"Somewhere in the living room, I'd rather not get stepped on if one of you gets out of your bed in the middle of the night."

He gives me the blankets and heads back to his bed to sleep. I go to the living room and arrange the blankets one on top of another until it feels somewhat soft and lay down.

"Good night everyone." (Argus)

"Good night." (Peter and Luis)

It feels like it's been so long since I've slept with people I know. I sigh, maybe I should join them. But how do I explain my situation to them without having to reveal too much? Logically speaking if I join them and decide to stay I will have to depend on them... Can I actually though?

"Pssst, Luis, you awake?" Argus whispers

"Why do you ask that question as if my answer would be 'no, I'm not.' What do you need?" I whisper back.

"...Are you sure you can sleep on the floor?"

"Why do you ask that now? I already explain to you that I'm completely fine with sleeping on the floor. Go to sleep if that's all you need."

"Ummm...That wasn't what I actually wanted to say."

"Then, what is it? I'm missing out on sleeping time over here."

"About the thing, you said of going away..."

I sigh. I guess it's just stupid to keep on saying that it isn't me.

"Alright, fine, I admit it, it is in fact me. So what is it that you wanted to ask me?"

"You are saying that you are 'have to leave'. Why is that?" (Argus)

Should I tell him? Can I trust Argus with something like this? I sigh, I don't know.

"Why do you want to know?" (Luis)

"...I guess you could say I'm worried." (Argus)

"What do you mean worried? You barely know me." (Luis)

"...That may be. But I mean, you are a middle school age kid who's going around killing people with some sort of goal in mind. Don't you think that's worrisome?'

"Don't make it sound like I'm killing people left and right, I can still count the number of people I've killed... I guess for a middle schooler it being more than one it's already too much huh."

I didn't think of this much about it but in all due technicality, I'm still a middle schooler, aren't I?

"Yes, so I was just wondering what drove you to this and why is it that you're leaving?" (Argus)

I don't want to tell him anything about Tara just yet... But my reason for leaving, I guess that's fine for now.

"I'm leaving because I don't have the means to stay."

"Are you trying to be sarcastic?"

I sigh.

"As you said before, I'm still a middle schooler. Due to certain circumstances, I have to move somewhere else. I don't have the money or place to stay so I'll be leaving next week."

"...So you're saying that if you have money and a place to stay, you wouldn't leave?"

"...In a sense, yes."

"Then stay with us."

This guy really doesn't get tired of doing this, doesn't he? However, maybe...

"...You know, I'd just be an economic burden. If I were to stay the only way I could help is with underground stuff."

"And that's exactly what I need," Argus says in a different tone of voice.

"Huh?"

"*Clears throat* What I mean to say is, it's fine for you to stay with us and not have to earn things like money all I need is help with dealing things that are from the underground. You can stay with us and you don't have to worry about money."

...That sounds too good to be true. I feel that there might be some sort of underlying purpose, it may be me being over thinking it or being paranoid. But at the same time, I want it to be true. I've been alone for far too long, it has only been about a month and yet it feels so lonely. I' don't know what I'll do after I accomplish my revenge, would this be fine?

I don't want to break my promise yet I know that whatever is at the end of this will just be emptiness. Argus isn't really the type of person to be calculative, or he doesn't look to be whenever I talk to him. Can I really trust what he's saying? Well...I want to believe I can.

"...Is that really okay?"

"It's totally fine, even if there is some disagreement. I promise that I'll be on your side and help you." (Argus)

I think...maybe placing my trust on him...may be okay. I don't think that the same thing will happen again. I'll make sure it doesn't.

"...Thanks," I whisper with some tears in my eyes

"Huh?"

"I accept, that's all. I'm going to bed now."

"...Good night."

I stay quiet thinking of what just happened. I don't know what will happen from here on out with the Vigilantes. I don't know whether this is the right decision either. But, I'm not alone for now and that's fine. I will be joining the Vigilantes, even If I end up regretting this decision. At least I won't be alone if it happens.

I feel as if a burden has been lifted off of me. Even though I'm sleeping at another person's house. Even though I am sleeping on the ground. This is the most relaxed and most comfortable I've felt since I decided to live this way. With those thoughts, I fall asleep.
