The Impatient Little Avery

"Momma, when will I meet my soulmate? What is taking it so long? Why did the Moon Goddess have to make it possible only when the destined werewolves are mature enough?"

Little Avery asked her mom nonstop for the nth time that morning. Mika, the doting mother, as usual, gives her warmest smile to her impatient child who's sitting on her designated chair in front of the table. She came closer to her, hugged her, then swayed their bodies.

"Hush, my beautiful daughter. You don't need to be in a rush, you know, just to meet your soulmate. Our Goddess made it that way so that kids like you could enjoy your youthfulness first from any responsibility associated with finding one's mate" Mika explained to her child patiently. Knowing her daughter, she will not stop until she gets a very satisfying response.

"But I am getting impatient already, Momma," said the stubborn Avery who's now pouting her lips in annoyance with a knot on her smooth forehead. Mika couldn't help herself but smile widely upon seeing the cute reaction of her younger kid. She is about to answer the child but sensing the presence of her husband who came out from upstairs, she holds her tongue, pastes a smile on her lips, and waits for him to come closer to them. In just a few seconds, he came into the kitchen. He went to her quickly and gave her a warm hug and kisses before he stooped down to their child's seat and served her an equal embrace and kisses on her forehead.

"Why are you so excited, little one? You are only, what? Five? Six years old? You're still too young to think about that, you know?"

The child's brows met into one line upon hearing her dad's unsure guess of her age.

"It is seven, Poppie. How come you don't know my age when I am your princess whom you love and cherish the most?"

"Oh, right! My princess is already seven. Forgive me, pumpkin. I was just messing with your head. But, you know what? To your Poppie's eyes, you will always be his little girl no matter how old you are."

"Okay, Poppie. Your sorry accepted. But I can't be your little girl as always, okay?"

"And why is that, you little punk?! Of course, you are because you are my Princess."

"Sorry, Poppie but I can't because I am already seven and if I were to add one on it, it would be seventeen already. Then next month is my birthday so that means I'll be turning eighteen in a month or so."

"Hu-whaaat??? Who the heck thought you to compute your age like that, bubble? No, you're not yet turning eighteen! Why so impatient getting older, sweetheart? I still need more time to pamper you like my little bubble. Besides, that's not the proper way of computing your age. It still has 11 long years to go before you will turn 18. Got it?"

"Eleven years?! But Alpha Benedict said I'll be turning 18 next month if I am to add 1 to my age. Are you saying that he taught me wrong?"

"O-oh! Is that what he said, or do you just assume that that's what he said? Knowing how persistent you are, for sure our Alpha just got tired of answering your repetitive question."

"Of course not, Momma. Every morning, I just asked him about my mate. At first, he just keeps on answering later, sooner, and whatever. But yesterday was different because, at long last, he told me that I only have to wait for one more birthday before I could meet my soulmate. That's what he said and I believe him."

"No way! You're still a baby. Besides, why the rush to meet him? Just forget about that for now and try to enjoy your life being a kid, okay?"

"But I can't Poppie. Jazzy seems too oblivious to my existence even though I told him already that we are mates. I knew it and I can feel it in my bones, Momma, Poppie" Avery said with a visible determination in her eyes. But a knot on her forehead appeared when another voice interrupted their conversation. Her bully brother whose name is Tommy.

"Oh, yeah? And what is it that you are feeling in your bones, knucklehead? The rush in your veins to anger and destroy our future Alpha's beautiful day whenever you are annoyingly near him? "Hey Jazzy, I am your mate. We are bound to live forever and for eternity" Tommy said while overly mimicking the little girl's words and actions whenever she's around Jasper, his best friend.

"Eew, what scary and nauseous words sprouting out of a frightening, bratty child's mouth like yours" Tommy added.

"It's true! I am not lying! You'll see big brother, Jazzy will be mine because he is my mate" says Avery with conviction. Tom then just raised his two hands in an act of surrender sensing that her cute sister is irritated already.

"Just as always," he thought while smirking. Jasper is a touchy subject for Avery that's why he loves using him to irritate his younger sibling. He loves seeing how her cheeks turn rosy red whenever she's irritated.

"Yeah, yeah, yeah. Whatever you say that will bloat your bubble, kiddo".

Avery did not answer back anymore knowing how bullied her brother is. But with her eyes turning into a long half-slit, reddening cheeks, and pouting lips to their highest peak, anyone can sense how pissed off the child is already. In her young mind, she couldn't understand why most people in the pack, including her own family, just keep on shrugging off her claim about who her mate will be. She knew it. She can feel it. He's the eighteen-year-old boy who's the same age as her brother, the son of their Alpha and Luna, the future Alpha of Red Moon Pack- Jasper Ville Jameson.

Hello, readers!
