Pebble told him stories about mers and humans, tales he’d been told by his parents and his grandparents. They’d shared their lives with each other while Gaven healed, and Gaven had found himself falling in love with a mer, no song needed to lure him in.

“Have you been kissed before?” Gaven asked because Pebble’s stories had not covered past lovers, and Gaven would treat a virgin in a different manner than an experienced lover.

“I do more than kiss. Mers are, not sure of human words for it, love is encouraged? Not judged like on human islands,” Pebble explained.

“Even between men?” Gaven asked.
