His back was quick to remind him that he was injured. Gaven took stock of his body. His back was wrapped up in cloths, as if someone had maybe tended his wounds, and Gaven remembered the merman. Could the mer have helped him?

Gaven’s question was answered when a man walked into the hut. He had the same skin as the mer, dark blue black with red in places, pale off white in others, but his tail was gone. He was wearing loose linen trousers and an open shirt, both in black. Gaven was surprised to feel a slight stirring of lust for what must be the merman who had saved his life.

“Where am I?” Gaven blurted out not wanting to think about those light eyes and that unusual green hair.

“My home,” the merman answered brightly.

Gaven tried to sit up a little, but he was in too much pain, too weak. “Where is your home?”
