2 The Farewell

I woke up from all the noise and movement that it was hearing from the outside.

"What's going?" I said half-sleepy whilst I grabbed my phone to check the hour

it was 10:34 a.m

the hour wasn't it wrong, I mean of course not, it was the day

who was up at 10:34 a.m on a Saturday?

crotchety I get up from the bed and slowly walk towards the window that faced the front part of the house.

Then I noticed something...

The neighbors were moving out

Not any neighbor, if not, one of my favorite ones.

The Smiths

A married couple that has been our neighbors for literally all life, I could tell.

I wonder, why would they move out?

Lazily I do my usual morning routine and put some decent comfy clothes.

I went downstairs to eat some breakfast and tell my mom about the Smiths

"Oh you're up," my mom said giving me a quick glance.

"Did you know that the Smiths were moving out?" I asked whilst sitting at the breakfast bar.

"Yeah, Anne told me this morning"

Anne was the wife of Mr.Smith

"Why did they move out all a sudden?"

"They couldn't afford the house anymore" my mom retorted.

After eating breakfast I decided to go and check how the Smiths were doing

It was easy to tell where the Smiths house was.

it was just next to mine

when I stood in their front yard the first thing I can see was all the mess of, furniture, boxes, clothes, and baggage everywhere.

"Lena!" Mrs. Anne shouted carrying more boxes out of the house.

"Mrs. Smith," I said getting closer to where she was.

"I told you to call me only Anne"

Mrs. Smith always told me to call her Anne because call her "Mrs" make her feel old, and, I mean, she wasn't old at all, she was 40 years old, but anyway I didn't feel comfortable talking like that to someone older than me.

"Why are you moving out? " I purred.

"Oh honey, Max got fired 3 weeks ago, the company owned the house so now that he's no longer in there they kick us out" she explained

"And...there's nothing that we can help you with..."

"No..no... don't worry sweetheart, we got it under control"

"Really?" I frowned

"Yeah we're moving out to a cheaper neighborhood, but don't worry we'll come to visit you" she patted my shoulder

After talking a while with her, I got home again.

When I get to my room the first thing I see was my brother quarreling my... dog?

"There you are" my brother scowled

"Yo, why are you yelling at my dog?" I exclaimed.

"I'm so done with you and your stupid dog" he bitterly said.

In my family, I was the only one that has a pet, so whatever my dog do I'd take 100% percent of the responsibility for it:

"But... wh- what does he do?" I stammered, my brother was well-known for his bad temper, don't get me wrong, he wasn't bad or anything, but when he gets angry, he can be a little...dangerous.

I wasn't afraid of him, of course not, but whenever he gets angry, it's always better to take a step back, even though he was only two years older than me, we get along with each other when we're not fighting.

"he gnawed my phone charger again" he retorted

Ohh that was one of my dog's favorite habits.

"Oh Clinton, you didn't do that, do you?" I glanced at my dog who was laid in the bed.

My brother gives me a grim look meaning 'I'm not kidding'

"Okay Luke, I'll buy you one tomorrow take mine for now," I said.

After my brother left the room, I remember I have to tell the girls about The Smiths, but I think by now they already know.

The girls were my friends and neighbors that I've been friends with since I have memory, and not only that, we got the same taste and music, and we also like Korean boys!

The Smiths were important to us, more Mrs. Anne, she was like a godmother to us, she shared secrets, gave us advice, and even listened to our problems, she was very special to us.

Before I can even grasp my phone

My sister came into my room.

Oh yeah, she was my other sibling, I was the youngest, Luke was the middle-one and Lia was the oldest, she was only 3 years older than me.

The three of us were like, 3 poles, 3 different flavors, because we were, I liked everything related to Asia, you know, the culture, the anime, the k-drama, kpop, and all that stuff.

while my brother likes things like rap, skate, and be the player he likes to be.

My sister was the opposite of me, I was so girly and pinky if we can say it like that, but her, she was kinda cheerless and reserved, she likes rock and always wears black clothes, so she was pretty different from what I was, I was always the one that wears the brightest colors.

"What do you want, Lia?" I irritably asked.

"Where's my black leather jacket?" she glowered.

Ah, I remembered that yesterday I grabbed from her closet, I was making outfits so I decided to do a tough one, but I didn't have one so I borrowed one of hers.

"It's in my closet" I retorted.

When she finally left, I grabbed my phone and opened the chatroom that the girls and I have, we named our chat: Unnies for life <3

Me: Girls, I have to make an announcement

Elsa: What's up?

Audre: Yo

Jenny: Hey, what's wrong?

Me: Well, now that all of you are online, I don't know if you already noticed that The Smiths are moving out.

Audre: OMG, really?

Elsa: Yeah I noticed that a while ago...

Jenny: :(

Me: I talked to Mrs. Anne this morning, and she told me that around 9 or 8 p.m they were leaving the neighborhood, so we have to say goodbye to them in the best way possible.

Elsa: What do you have in mind?

Me: I don't know :/

Jenny: What if we make a letter for Mrs. Anne from each one of us?

Audre: Yeah, that sounds good!

Me: Ok then, see you later :)

*************************************

it was 8:28 p.m and The Smiths were leaving

I grabbed my letter and went outside.

when I stood in Mrs. Anne front yard I could see already the girls saying goodbye.

"Oh, Lena is coming" Audre shouted

After hugging Mrs. Anne and telling her that she must visit us often, the girls and I went back to our homes.

It was late at this point, but the thought of 'who's gonna be the new neighbors' wouldn't stop prowling in my head.
