19 Chapter 19

A/N

I love how people say they're "expecting" a baby, as if it might be something else, like a penguin.

Hope ya'll enjoy the chapter!🥰

(Monday morning) Jai P.O.V.

I woke up to my alarm blaring next to my ear. "I'M AWAKE, I'M AWAKE!!" I yelled shutting it off.

I squinted at the time on my phone, 6:30. "Ugh, I don't wanna get uppp!!" I whined kicked my legs against the bed.

To wake me up further, Amiga jumped on the bed and started licking me, "Haha, Amiga stop haha!!" I laughed picking her up and going to my bathroom. I finished doing the usual things you do in a bathroom and went to make breakfast. I wasn't that hungry, so I just blended up a protein smoothie. After finishing that and washing it, because I would go bonkers if I saw a single dirty dish escape my sight, I started to get dressed.

Because I work as an investment banker, the dress code for men is usually wearing suits, but occasionally I just go without the coat,

because I am a rebel.

This also means half of my closet is filled with suits and dress shirts that have safe colors such as: white, gray, navy blue, and so on.

So, I really had to step it up for the other half of the closet, if you know what I mean.

You probably expected that the rest of my closet is filled with statement pieces, bright colors, and such.

It's not.

The plan to step it up resulted in me buying more neutral, simple clothing.

It was a plan already set to fail.

I flipped through my closet and quickly found an outfit because everything was the same. "I need to go shopping." I sighed. I buttoned up a simple white dress shirt, with navy trousers, and paired it with a silk navy tie. As for accessories, my handy dandy watch, and a brown belt that matched my shoes. All without a coat, because I felt a little rebellious today hehe.

Before leaving, I got all my essentials and kissed Amiga goodbye.

I reached the garage level and headed to my car.

Before entering in, I got a text and checked who it was,

Kai: Ugh I don't wanna go to work 😫

I laughed

Me: Who does? It's a pain in the ass but it's all for the $$$ 😝

Kai: Yuhhhh $$$$ See uuu 😁

Me: See u :)

I smiled putting my phone away, pulled out of the garage and drove to work. Eventually, I reached my building, opened the door and entered.

As I was walking towards the elevator, I suddenly felt an arm on my shoulder.

"Who the f-"I turned to see who startled me.

"Hii!!" Kai smiled.

I pushed him away, "Dude, don't do that." I said while fixing my shirt and tie.

"Oh damn I'm sorry, I didn't mean to ruin the same shirt and tie you always wear to work." He said in a sarcastic tone.

"Whatever. At least I don't come in and look like a headass by violating the dress code." I gestured my hand up and down towards him.

"Hey! You know the dress code is boring. Someone has to step up and rebel. It's better to release your identity than look like everyone else which is, boring." He then returned the favor and gestured his hand up and down at me. I rolled my eyes.

Kai smiled and put his arm around my shoulder.

I looked at him,

"Well, then I guess I am boring."

Then I dipped my shoulder which made him stumble and laughed at him as I walked towards the elevator and pressing the up button.

"Hey! That wasn't funny!!" Kai ran to me. "Haha, yes it was." Kai reached up to me. He crossed his arms and pouted, "No it wasn't." whispering to himself.

The elevator doors opened and we entered, as Kai pressed the button to the 4th floor where we work. Throughout the way up, people entered and exited, as we finally hit the 4th floor. Kai and I exited and walked towards our desks. "See ya at lunch." Kai patted my back. "Roger that." I saluted and sat down at my desk area and started working away.

When lunchtime hit, Kai and I went to our usual place which was a Thai restaurant. There were 2 Thai restaurants across the street from each other, so we switch between one another. Today we went to the one that was on our sidewalk, Roi's Thai.

We both ordered, Kai getting Pad Thai, and I got red curry with tofu and jasmine rice.

"So, did you finish any important work?" Kai asked while slurping in his noodles. I nodded, "Yeah, the SEC finished filing a prospectus that I put together for a company called B.R.L. Beauty."

"Isn't that a makeup company?" Kai asked. I nodded, "Yeah, I'm pretty sure. They just started 6 months ago."

"Oh, cool. Good jobbb." Kai gave me a thumbs up. I laughed, "Thanks dude. Did you get anything done?" I asked.

He nodded slowly, "Yeah kinda, here and there. Nothing too important which is a relief. I'm not in the mood to handle a hefty amount of work right now, with you know, the back pain. Oof." He said while rubbing it. "Yeah, I get it. It's a lot." I sighed. We later finished our lunch and headed back to our work building.

The rest of the day was pretty chill, not in the literal sense when I mean pretty chill, it's always hectic in the office. Something last minute happened and my boss gave more work for me to do which was absolutely fantastic. So, I left work at around 10 which is later than usual.

While driving home, I checked how the weather would be overnight.

My heart dropped when I saw what was displayed on my phone.

Thunder.

All night.

Suddenly, my breath became shaky, "W-Why tonight?" I threw my head back, having a tighter grip on my wheel.

I took deep breaths, "It's ok, it's ok. You'll be fine." reassuring myself.

I finally reached the apartment building, entering through the garage to park my car. I locked it, and opened the door, to the hallway towards the elevators. I went up to my floor, and walked towards my door to see no other than,

Sahana struggling to open her door?

I silently laughed at the site, "Hi." I smiled at her, and went to open my apartment but stopped and had a sudden realization.

If I make Sahana stay with me long enough, hopefully, she will leave late enough to the point where, when I go to sleep, I'll be able to sleep through the thunder.

Without taking my sleeping pills.

But I need to make something up to convince her.

Something good.

I looked up at her as she still struggled, "Uh, do you need help with that?"

She shot a glare at me, giving goosebumps all around my body. I put my hands up, "Okie, I'll take that as a no."

"Yes, I am fine, thank you." She replied.

"Hm, ok. Whatever you say." I whispered to myself.

I stared at her in pity as she fought with the doorknob and whispered to herself in frustration.

Then I lost my patience, "Ok, you need help."

I sighed walking towards her taking her keys away, "Move aside."

In a few seconds, her door opened and out Monty came jumping onto Sahana, wagging his tail in happiness.

I smiled and admired the site as Sahana ruffled Monty's hair.

Seeing someone else working as hard as I do, then smile to their hearts fullest content when they meet someone they love, just reminds me of how the power of it, is stronger than anything else in this world.

It doesn't matter who or what it is that they love, or even the amount shown or given.

Love is just love.

Something so powerful, that it makes you forget about everything that's happening around you.

Sahana got up and entered her apartment. I was about to leave, forgetting about my plan and just letting it go when I heard, "Um, thanks, for opening my door." I smiled to myself and faced Sahana, "No problem."

"Well then, bye." She said walking towards the door to close it.

But something inside me didn't want to let her go.

Not so that I could just have the company to last the thunder.

Something else.

But I didn't know what.

My body reacted faster than my mind and I stopped the door with my hand. I could see the surprise on Sahana's face, as we stared at each other.

Her facial expression changed once she realized what was going on, as her eyebrows furrowed in confusion, "What are you doing?"

Quick!

Think of something!!

Oh, chai!

ASK HER FOR CHAI YOU IDIOT!!

"Chai.."

"Huh?"

I heard her say, snapping me back to reality.

I didn't realize that when I was thinking, the whole time I was just staring at her.

Way to go Jai, you dipshit.

"What I meant to say was, have some chai with me. Just have come over and drink some. Then leave if you want to. That's all I am asking." I gave her an innocent face to see if she would buy it.

But it didn't.

"Why do you want me to come over so badly? And I can't, I have to feed Monty. Plus, if you ever check the time once in a while, you'll come to the fact that its late." She said tapping her watch.

Then I suddenly blurted it out, "You're lying." I tried provoking her.

"W-what?"

I continued with my act, "You're lying. I can see it in your eyes." then extended my head closer to her face.

"Y-you don't know that." Sahana turned away, backing up from the entrance.

I realized and took the chance to fully open her door since she was distracted. I tried a second time with the whole innocent face and whined, "Please comeeee. I have no good reason why, so just come pleaaaseee."

Obviously, I did have a reason why, which I could not tell her.

Ever.

Sahana turned and looked at me for an awkward couple of seconds. I continued giving her the innocent look, putting my hands together pleading, until she finally gave in.

Sahana threw her head back, "Ugh, fine. It's only because I'm tired, so you got me at my worst. And don't do whatever you did just now, that was weird." She said.

I tilted my head sideways, "Huh? What do you meeaann?" I teased her.

"Agh STAP STAP." she waved her hands toward me.

I smiled and walked towards her, as she started walking backwards, "Uh, w-what are you doing, Jai?" she asked. I responded by grabbing her wrist and taking her out the door with me. "Wait! What about Monty!!" she asked.

I smiled at her, "He's coming too!!"

In less than 2 seconds, we were in my apartment.

Monty and Amiga were enjoying themselves in each other's company, which left just me and Sahana alone.

I was in the kitchen making chai, occasionally glancing at her, as she sat on the couch looking around. I eventually finished making it, walking out of the kitchen and handing a mug to her, "Here you go, be careful it's still very hot."

She smiled slightly, "Thanks." I sat down on one of my single couches, since I thought it would be awkward if we sat next to each other.

"I'm sorry." I said which caught her attention.

"You already said that." She said taking a small sip from the mug.

I sighed looking down, "Yeah, I know. I just wanted to apologize again, if the first one didn't really sound as if I meant it." I looked up at her. "It's fine I guess." She said looking down at her feet, tapping them against the floor.

We sat in silence for a while,

Until I couldn't handle it anymore.

"Ok this isn't how I wanted it to go."

I made a bold move by getting up and sitting next to her. She was startled by the sudden distance change between us and scooted a little away from me.

I took a sip from my mug, "Ah, isn't chai just amazing?" trying to change the conversation.

She nodded in response and took another sip.

"When I saw you in the hallway, struggling with opening your door, and that being such a simple task, I could tell you were stressed out or tired."

"So I felt like a hot cup of chai would do the trick to help calm you down." I raised my mug.

"Hopefully it did the trick." I smiled.

"I know I still have a long way to go in order to make it up to you, when you said that back at the cafe."

"So, these are just some small things-"

"Stop."
