4 Food

I look at something that I have never seen before. It is food, yes, food. Before in my life, I only ate leftovers that people threw away, or sometimes I stole from stalls.

But I could only steal things like bread or some fruit. As I grew, I could steal many things without a problem. Still, from reading the book, I knew stealing was terrible, so I only stole enough to survive, so I never had the luxury food like I'm seeing in front of me right now.

What this food is called is a pancake; from the memory of the former owner of the body, I knew this, and I also knew the taste of it, but still, that blood rushing in my body because of excitement that I might able to eat such a sweet thing and water that is flowing in mouth, I didn't waste a second, pick the slice of pancake with my bare hand and chew down.

I can't describe this in words; this pancake is heavenly food, a food that should deserve utmost recognition from all over the world. I chewed the food as I felt like crying, but I didn't cry. If I did, Evelyn would find this weird, so I didn't cry.

"Devin... a-are you okay?"

I heard Evelyn's voice. She seemed worried. What are these worries about? I looked at her, and she looked at me worriedly. Why is that? Then I saw a spoon beside the pancake plate, and I messed up. I shouldn't have eaten this pancake with my hand.

"I-I'm okay. I just saw a video of a person eating with my hands, so I tried that," I nervously laughed and said. Will she buy this excuse? But now I think about how I should check that smartphone thing. I saw many people trying in my previous life. I should check.

"Okay, but you shouldn't do that."

"Yeah, sorry," I apologized and started to eat properly and savor the sweetness of this pancake.

"Devin, did you pack everything?"

I heard this and looked at Evelyn, and she seemed sad? What is she speaking of? Let me think: oh yeah, yesterday Devin learned that his fiancée will go to the dorm and will not stay at home, so Devil also decides to leave here to live in a dorm. Still, I'm not going to do that, but now I'm thinking then, why did Evelyn help Devin so much to get together with her daughter when her daughter didn't want to?

"Aunt, why did you help me so much to get together with Ava," I asked and looked at her.

Evelyn seemed surprised by the question, but then she nodded and spoke, "I'm helping you... because you truly love her, and I think Ava won't get any better person than you," Evelyn then looked down. She sighed, "But all our attempts made your relationship worse, and slowly my relationship also became distant."

I didn't speak and thought, then sighed; Ava moved to the dorm because Evelyn took Devin in the house, and even when Devin also moved out of the house, Ava didn't come back in the house. She also didn't come back on her vacation. At the end of the year, Devin committed suicide; when Evelyn heard it, she especially went to the academy and slapped Ava for it, ending her mother-and-daughter relationship there.

After that, Ava tried to contact her mother and apologized many times, but everything failed; then, in the end, Ava was never able to see her mother again as she died in a car accident.

"Aunt Evelyn, I'm not going to dorm," I smiled and said.

"Huh? Why? but... you... didn't want?" Evelyn is surprised by this. She couldn't find words for it. She looked at me, and I looked at her and said, "I think I shouldn't do anything to anger or make the relationship even worse, so I stay here."

"This... are you sure?"

"Yes I'm, and I don't want to miss these pancakes."

Evelyn looked at me for a while, then she smiled and nodded her head. She put her hand on my head and said, "Okay, I make more delicious dishes for you."

"Haha, I can't wait for that."
