The departure from the place where the storm had surprised them was sad and the dejection was evident in all the faces, particularly those of the Mongol custodians, whom the desert had snatched from a companion and perhaps a relative. Before leaving the place Jack approached the men to fraternize with them, even though there was no common language in which they could make themselves understood. From a distance Bodniev watched him approvingly, while the others stared in a respectful silence.

In the expedition there had been a moral break as the members verified, especially the most novice in real adventures, the fragility of existence in the middle of the vast desert with its harsh rules, some of them unknown and unpredictable, since from the sighting of the storm on the horizon until its unleashing above their heads had not elapsed more than half an hour.
