42 Deep Sleep

I shivered.

"He must be in deep sleep to not notice me." I said. "Perhaps he is tired of everything going on. Must have been really hard on him."

That was an understatement, but that was also the best way I could say it.

"Or perhaps..." my focus shifted, "perhaps it is the medicine he has to take." My eyes turn to the white medicine tube. "I think I'm going to let him sleep for now. There is no rush, I should be safe here."

I didn't know that for certain, but being here was really giving me a sense of security. I slowly walked out of the room, turning the light off on my way out. He hadn't woken up yet, despite all my lingering around in his room, but I was afraid that I would wake him up anyway.

"I might use some rest too. I can just sort everything out once the sun rises and the new day begins." The belief that time would solve problems was something I didn't enjoy normally, but I was simply overwhelmed.

I found myself another room - Sena's room to be specific - to stay in for the night. I laid down and got comfortable. My body was ready, but my mind wouldn't let me sleep.

"Time is of the essence!" it said. "Running is no use!"

"You are not going anywhere with half-working senses. You will get yourself killed. Oh wait, let's be real. You would probably get yourself killed in any case. Just wait for the sunrise." it said when I changed my perspective.

Of course, having acknowledged my selfish thoughts a while ago, I went with the safe choice - that is to say, the 'relatively' safer one.

My mind gave up, and I let myself get pulled into an ocean of dreams. An ocean; the pretty view of the outside slowly turned into a dark nightmare filled with eccentric, horrible creatures as I got pulled deeper into it.

Sounds of a village waking up rescued me, pulling me back out of the ocean to join them with their morning rush.

"Oh no, what hour is it?" I said. It was pretty bright outside.

"Mr. Idris didn't see me?" I asked myself. "Maybe he allowed me to sleep for longer... Or maybe he didn't wake up yet."

I sighed.

"I won't know unless I get up right now."

I got up and looked around. Mr. Idris either wasn't here, or he was still sleeping. When I entered his room, I knew it was the latter.

"Oh, right, the stones!"

I looked at the top of the table. There was a black gemstone there.

"That's way darker than I remember it to be."

As soon as I touched it, it painted my hand, as if I was playing with coal.

"Wait." I said. "I had two, where is the other one?"

I couldn't have lost it... or could I!? I didn't know why, but I knew they were important; Ms. Saka was being so protective about her gemstone. It must've been really important.

"Oh no, oh no!"

I was infuriated, I was going to go crazy. What if I could never find it again? What would I lose? What would we lose?

"I am sorry, I have to..."

I opened the green covers to wake Mr. Idris up. He was still laying there, totally oblivious of the storms raging inside me.

"Mr. Idris, I am sorry, but please wake up."

He didn't even move.

"Mr. Idris, please. I need your help, immediately!"

I thought he moved his legs a little bit, but it could just be my imagination. After getting no response to my second call, I began poking him.

"Wake up!" I finally yelled, exasperatedly. My frusturation then morphed into a weird woe.

"Mr. Idris?" I said once again, but this was different. "Are you okay?"

It was apparent he wasn't. I shook him. He wasn't reacting - I should've known something was wrong the first time I've seen him!

"Oh my, that's impossible!"

I was baffled.

"What do I do? What do I do?"

I saw his cell phone on the ground.

"I will call an ambulance. Yeah, that would be the right thing to do!"

I put my hand in my pocket to look for my cell phone. It wasn't there. Of course it wouldn't be - there was no way for it to survive so much action. I went to take Mr. Idris'.

Pressing one of it's buttons activated the screen. On the background image, there was a family photo. Mr. Idris, Ms. Saka and Sena were together in one frame, happily smiling in this very house. It was wholesome, and that caught me by surprise in the middle of one of my panic moments.

"Oh wait, no. I don't know the password!"

It took me a while to realize.

"No, no, no; emergency calls don't need a password, do they?"

I dialed the number to reach emergency services, but there was no signal. I ran around the house frantically, and then tried the book store. The problem wasn't the signal, it was the phone.

As I was meddling with it, re-inserting it's SIM card and battery over and over again, I finally saw the terrifying message.

'5% battery left. Please plug in your device.'

"You are kidding me. No, you must be kidding me!"

I angrily threw the phone on to the side of the bed. It bounced and hit the wall, bounced again and landed on the ground. Every step, it had disassembled itself a little bit. Only it's structural skeleton had made it all the way to the ground intact.

I was too busy to regret it, though.

"Okay, here goes nothing..." I said. I tried lifting Mr. Idris off the bed, but he was too heavy and I wasn't strong enough. Then I gave up and just started dragging him. We went downstairs and I brought him to the door of the book store. I kicked the door out of it's place like I did once before, and got Mr. Idris outside. There was a few people passing by.

"Call an ambulance!" I yelled. "Help!"

Most people suddenly started running away from the store in fear. Except one, the one person I had made eye contact with. A university student probably - he was frozen in fear, which was the only reason he wasn't running away like everyone else.

"Call! An ambulance!" I repeated, even louder. He was trembling.
