Chapter 1

6 futuristic flight units, 5 black at the front in the formation of a W with a white one behind the middle one, could be seen flying through the clouds. Suddenly,

*Ring*

"This is Command. YoRHa squadron, come in." A holographic display of a woman with long blond hair and a black face mask that covered the bottom part of her face popped up in front of the middle black flying unit.

"This is 2B. All units have safely penetrated the stratosphere. Auto systems green across the board." responded a monotone feminine voice.

"This is Operator 6O. All units confirmed." continued the blonde woman in the holographic display.

"Currently, we've passed the 50-kilometer threshold and are proceeding towards the target." (2B)

"Once you reach the enemy's anti-air defenses, proceed to the manual-attack formation, then destroy the Goliath-class unit at the destination by any means necessary, and please gather what data you can find." (6O)

"Understood." (2B)

Immediately after 2B's response, a huge laser beam shot through the air taking down one of the flight units beside her.

"Yahhhhhh!!"

Seeing this, 2B reported in her monotone voice "12H, lost."

"All units, activate manual mode and rely on visuals to evade," commanded 2B through the radio.

"Already engaged. Free movement unlocked," responded a male robotic voice.

"Origin point of long-range lasers confirmed." one of the units reported.

Just as they had finished reporting, another laser beam shot down another unit.

"Ahhhhh!!!!"

"11B, lost" another monotone feminine voice reported. " Our Ho229 cancellers are ineffective," continued the same voice.

The flight units lowered their altitudes, now flying parallel alongside the water.

"Alert: Enemy units sighted ahead," the previous robotic voice reported.

*Ring*

"Requesting permission to engage," (2B)

"Permission to engage, granted," (6O)

Numerous small flying robots flew towards 2B and her unit, shooting slow-moving but deadly red energy pulses, that look like red balls, from their firearms. 2B and her squadron make quick work of them by shooting their own energy pulses but theirs are small beams launched in quick secession. During the fight, the laser shot two of her units down. Amongst them, was the white one who was 2B's and her squadron's captain.

"1D lost. According to the situation, Unit 2B will be assuming captain's duties," reported 2B, turning her flight unit white. 2B and only one other unit were left, out of the 6 previously, while continuing their fight through hordes of robots. And as the incoming robots were no more, one of the other units realized that they were being targeted by the laser.

"Captain, I think..." before they could continue, they were shot down by the laser.

"4B, lost," reported 2B, she was currently approaching what seems to be an island of factories, there were also submerged factories around her, and metal structures, jutting out above the water from below were littered here and there. As she was about to continue to report about the casualties and that the operation is compromised, the holographic screen popped up, alerting her.

"This is Commander White, Unit 2B, you are to change course immediately towards the coordinates Operator 6O will be sending. This is mission priority one, failure will not be tolerated. The fate of humanity rests in your hands," the commander strictly commanded.

"T..this is Operator 6O, sending coordinates of mission priority one, now." (6O)

2B was surprised by the sudden mission and its importance. Nevertheless, she was even more determined to finish the mission.

"Affirmative, pod, set the waypoint to the coordinates," (2B)

"Coordinates located. Setting waypoint now," the same male robotic voice from before responded. She then adjusted her flight unit towards the direction of the mission and flew towards it.

Meanwhile, somewhere within a dark hidden chamber surrounded by metal walls, a glass casket that seems to be frozen rose up slowly from the floor. Inside the casket lay a man that looks like he is in his mid-20s. He has familiar looks as Shiba Tatsuya from mahouka koukou no rettousei except he looks frail and weak due to the cryostasis.

As the frozen casket slowly came to a stop above the floor, the ice started to melt quickly as the casket began to heat up. Steam and vapor filled the room as a loud sound of pressurized air escaping could be heard. Lights begin to turn on in the chamber, illuminating the things in it. From the casket, a loud inhaling voice sounded out as a hand reached out to grab its rim, and slowly a figure rose from within.

"*Gasp* *Breathing harshly* Wh....where....am....I," voiced the mysterious man. He looked around the room slowly, searching for any clues about where he is. He saw a terminal in the far corner of the room and decided to check on it for information about his cryostasis. As far as he remembered, he didn't agree to be put inside a casket and be frozen for who knows how long. He attempted to get up but the lengthy lack of movement from being frozen caused him to fall back down on his back. He laid in the casket catching his breath for a moment and tried getting up again.

He was able to free both of his legs from the casket this time and lowered them to the ground slowly. However, he had slept for so long that his sense of balance had become off, causing him to fall face-first on the ground.

"Ughh," groaned the man as he supported himself with his hands, grabbed the edge of the casked, and tried to get up again. He was able to get up, but his legs were trembling, so he had to keep his weight on the coffin in case he collapsed again. After getting himself used to standing up again, he slowly made his way to the futuristic terminal. It was familiar to him and even if it wasn't, he was sure he could be able to make sense of it after tinkering with it a bit.

After all, he wasn't dubbed a technical genius and other titles for nothing. He looked at the display showing various data about his body and the current situation of the cryo-pod, as the terminal termed it. It was flashing red signaling that some kind of error popped up making it terminate its program and letting him wake up. A shiver went up his spine when he imagined the pod failing life support and killing him in the process. Luckily, whoever made it, thought of making fail-safes in case something catastrophic happened to him.

Speaking of death, he suddenly realized that he was on the verge of dying before blacking out. In an effort to prevent himself from turning into a salt pile, he shot himself with an experimental virus. The next thing he knew, he was waking up from the cryo-pod.

"So the virus worked, but if it did why was I put in a cryo-pod? Am I just some kind of a trophy to be put inside a glass case and locked forever for people to view with a sign that says 'The person that saved mankind. Frozen for people in the future to view'? Or was I forgotten?" said the man.

He lets out a chuckle afterwards, shaking his head, and said with a smile "Heh, that would be really fucked up. I'm guessing they weren't able to replicate it and as a last-ditch effort, they froze me up and hoped for me to wake up in a better future where the white chlorination syndrome (WCS) would be gone. Then I shouldn't be the only one frozen right? I mean what is a man to do by himself to repopulate the world? I hope they at least got a supermodel as my lifelong partner."

Silence reigns in the room for a while as his effort to cope with the situation he is in fails. He knew, he knew that humanity was fucked. The fact that an error in the cryo program was what woke him up futhur cemented his thoughts. If humanity survived, he would've been woken up with soldiers surrounding him with their weapons pointed at him. Also the date on the terminal was the last nail on the proverbial coffin.

'Current date - March 10, 11,945'

Approximately 9913 years have passed for him if the terminal was correct. He would be the oldest human to ever live, except he wasn't proud of it. In fact, he nearly broke down there and then. All the people he knew, his loved ones, his colleagues, gone, dusted, not even bones would remain after this long. He couldn't help but shed some silent tears as he wondered if he should even continue living anymore. There was nothing left for him after all.

But he stoped himself from going down the abyss of depression and held hope that maybe he really was just forgotten, that the facility he was held in was buried and hidden after all these years that no one found him. That he would be able to see a futuristic world filled with flying cars and even aliens like in that move called star wars when he get out of this facility.

With renewed determination and hope he started to search for the exit.
