4 Chapter Three

Chapter Three - "The wolf losses his partner."

I start to laugh while looking up at him. "I'm kidding, I'm kidding. They don't exist, right?" I question, looking him in the eye. I could tell that he calmed down a little bit, but he was still on guard.

I glanced over to the other side of the street. People were walking by, trying to not get angry at other people. It was a nice gesture, but we all knew it was a facade just to make it by. I turned my attention back to my new partner.

"Jay, any more questions you would like to ask me?" I ask, finally twirling in front of him. I started to walk backwards while looking up at him. His eyes looked cross, yet confused.

Then, his build started to slouch in way that made you think he didn't want to talk, but then he looked up. A smirk was riddled across his face as he looked down at me. "Why did you become a detective?" he asked, his voice flat, with a hint of mischief.

I didn't think he was going to ask that. I thought it was gonna be more personal since he looked as though he was about to go crazy with anticipation. It made me question why he would ask me this.

I smiled, swiftly moving around people while still facing him. I decided to toy with him, so as retaliation I said, "Well truth be told, I'm very bad at lying."

He looked at me as though he didn't like that answer. "That's not what I asked, and I don't care if you are bad at lying." he said, his tone of voice rising slightly.

My smile slightly faltered. So he is like everyone else. I started to giggle and I didn't stop.

I looked up at the sky and my face felt sculpted. Everyone around me felt like they were everything, and yet, they were nothing. The buildings felt so tall, that it made it seem as though they were hovering over me, and the stares of everyone made me laugh. It made me feel alive again.

I stopped and I looked at Jay, grabbing him by his shirt. My head started to go near his chest since he was so tall. That's when I questioned him, "Why is our sky blue? Why do we feel the need to lie, and why do we live knowing that we do it everyday?"

My smile felt so weird, yet it made me feel so happy. The face he was making made me ecstatic. I don't know why, but everyone's face just made me feel so wonderful!!

'What is going on with me, am I going crazy is the monster coming out?' I thought while slightly tilting my head. I looked at Jay and the people surrounding us. They thought we were going to fight. Some people already got there phone out to record.

"You are not crazy and you're not insane….you're just delusional!" he yells out into the streets of Los Angeles.

That's when everything just stopped. My smile was still there, but my lips could not move. It felt as though God stopped time. I looked him in the eye while smiling with a happy glint in my eyes, "I don't think we should be partners anymore."

I let go of his shirt, walking down the streets of Los Angeles. Everyone was staring at me, looking at me with their judgmental eyes, but all I was doing was smiling and giggling. "The wolf will come back to play, because they love playing games."

Jay's POV

His bright orange hair looked like the sun, and his eyes made you feel as though they knew you the second you stared at them. His smile looked so forced, yet it fit him so perfectly.

I knew I could win by strength easily, but his craziness scared me. It's as if the very second he met me, he knew who I was, but the boss was right. He would become a great detective, but I needed to get him to like me somehow, so we could work together in peace.

That's when a girl came up to me. I wouldn't have noticed her if she didn't tap me on the stomach. I looked down at her and muttered, "What do you want?"

She smiled, while looking down. Her hands were intertwined together, but they looked as though they were fighting each other, "Um, you probably don't know me, but the guy you were just with. I know him."

It was weird, I went through his files and it had nothing about a girlfriend. I didn't see her face since she was looking down and the roots of hair were changing back to its original hair color. It used to be pink, but now you could see blonde at the top of it.

That's when I asked, "How do you know him?"

She flinched. I think she wasn't expecting my voice to be so low. That's when she smiled, "He showed me that I'm a human being and I'm not a butty object for my boss."

She looked up a little and half smiled, walking away. I didn't turn around to ask her more about Angel, I just looked straight ahead and kept on walking.

I didn't know what I thought about this Angel fellow. I heard students pass me, while they talk about their days at school.

"Yeah, I heard there was a murder at school today." One girl said. She had her hands together in a praying stance.

"Right? I heard it was one of the students from the student council." Another girl said, while her face looked drained from just hearing the information.

But what the third girl said gave me chills, yet I expected it.

She said, "I heard it was the Vice-president, but who cares - we got out of school early."

Everyone who looked scared yet they had a happy expression on their face, and they all excitedly said "Yeah, at at least we got out of school!"

That's when I grabbed my phone out of my back pocket and went to my contacts. I went to the boss' number and clicked it. I typed;

"I think I found us a case."

I put my phone back in my pocket, and I kept walking until I found my destination.
