17 Time To Say Goodbye

It's been six days since I learned Bella's Unique Skill. A lot has happened, but Bella and I are finally heading out to start our adventure. I'm a bit nervous, but Bella is super excited. Seeing her like this makes me smile.

Over the last few days, we finished a few more quests and even took an E rank quest along with Evan and Galdo. I visited Fendal a few times, and ate dinner with the Supards once. It was an awkward meal to say the least.

Right now Bella and I are on a Goblin Hunting Quest so I can get reach level twenty-five and become an E rank adventurer. I got used to using magic and I now favour ice and lightining magic from all the Elemental magics. They're let's of fun to use in combat.

My sword is now a proper steel one made by Edgar himself. I swing it through the neck of a goblin and with my left hand, send out an electrical current which resembles a lightning bolt at a goblin running at me from my left.

Right now,I'm practicing using both the sword and magic simultaneously. It's quite a challenge. Bella is supporting me from behind. She is making sure I'm only facing up to five goblins at once. If any others come, she takes them down for me.

Another swing of my sword and the last goblin in this group goes down. "Let's take a break." I plopped down on the ground, a bit tired.

"Sure. You've used a lot of MP today. Check your Status Card. You might have leveled up to twenty-five!" Bella said with a lot of enthusiasm.

I took out my Status Card and said, "Status open." The overlay appeared before me, and my eyes immediately found my level.

I smiled with satisfaction at my raised stats. "Yep. I'm level twenty-five now. We're done here." I stood up and brushed off the dirt from my pants. We quickly collected the left ear of each goblin and left the forest.

Once we got to the Rewards Counter in the guild, we passed over our cards and the proof we had collected from the goblins. Bailey, took it all and after some calculations gave us our reward. "Here is your reward for the quest, along with three more silvers and sixty coppers for the extra goblins killed."

Bailey then handed Bella her card and turned to me. "Please wait a moment. I'll need to update your rank, now that you've reached level twenty-five." She then put the card back in the machine and after a moment gave it back to me.

"Congratulations, Luke! We're both E rank now!" Bella clapped a bit, making a few nearby adventurers chuckle. I thanked Bailey for her hard work and we left the guild together.

Outside the guild, I turned to Bella and said, "I think it's time we decided where we want to go next. I'd like to travel the world, and I want to do that with you."

Bella hugged my arm and smiled at me. "I'll always be with you. I want to go to the capital, but that's very far away."

"For now, let's set the capital as our goal. Before that, we need to decide on our path." I took out a map of the Velcaidian Empire from my bag and we talked about the path we would take as we wandered the streets of Desil.

The capital was in the heart of the Velcaidian Empire, which was approximately seven thousand kilometers to the west of Desil. Between there and here, there were many cities, towns, and villages, along with a massive forest and a mountain range we would need to cross.

The closest city to Desil was called Feido, which was also the name of the first noble to rule this territory of the Velcaidian Empire. That was over one thousand years ago, but the city he built still stood tall and proud. It was a testament to how strong this country was.

We decided that Feido would be our next destination. The only things left to do were to prepare our stuff and say our goodbyes to our friends and Bella's family. We decided to split ways and go say our goodbyes today, so we could set out by noon tomorrow. Bella went back to her house, and I set off for central guardhouse.

Today was especially loud in the Central Guardhouse. There was a group of guards escorting seven bandits that they had caught in the forest to the south of Desil.

Once the commotion died down, I went to the receptionist and asked if she could inform Captain Fendal that I was here. She told me to wait by one of the desks, and sent someone else to inform Fendal of my arrival.

A few minutes later, Fendal called out to me as he came over. "Lucifer! Why did you come by so early today?"

"I'm leaving Desil tomorrow, so I came to say goodbye."

"Ah. I knew it would happen sooner rather than later. Stay here a moment." Fendal quickly left, leaving me to wonder what he was up to. A few minutes later he came back with a long item wrapped in cloth.

He passed the item over to me and said, "This is a farewell gift from me to you. I hope it'll help you on your adventures. Now go and prove to the world that I was right about you being someone special!"

He embraced me with a slight sniffle. Seems he really took a liking to me. I smiled as I returned the embrace.

"I'll be back one day. By then, my name will have spread across the world as proof to you!" I said with confidence. He nodded and we bumped fists.

Next on my list of people to say goodbye to were Evan and Galdo. I went to the inn they were staying at, and talked to them for a bit. They were planning on staying a bit longer, but their next destination was the port city of Rottabel. They were eventually going to head to the capital, but we might not see them for a long time. I wished them luck and after we said our farewells, I left.

All that was left was to say goodbye to the Supards. I'd head over around dinner, so that Bella would have time to say goodbye to her friends. For now, I need to prepare my stuff at the inn and open the gift from Fendal.
