7 Outnumbered doesn't mean Defeated

I ran ahead of Evan, as my agility allowed me to run far faster than most adventurers at my level. The first few goblins didn't even have time to register that I had reached them as their heads toppled to the floor. Shortly after, Evan caught up to me and back to back, we fought against the wave of goblins.

Galdo and Bella kept firing their attacks at the horde further away, picking of goblins here and there while hampering their progress.

"I'm close to running out of mana!" Bella yelled so Evan and I could hear. We had almost killed all of the goblins in the smaller wave. I swung my sword a few more times, and the last goblin collapsed to the forest floor.

Evan called out to Galdo and Bella to fall back to where we were as we moved to take their position.

We didn't have the chance to take a break, but we were feeling more confident now that half the goblins had already been killed. The horde coming from deeper in the woods was only two thirds of its original size, so we were certain that we had already won.

As I moved forward to continue the fight against the second wave of goblins, I checked my sword and realized it was already pretty beaten up. I would be lucky if it lasted past this fight. It wasn't a high quality sword to begin with, but it was given to me by God. I realized I would need to get a new sword after today, but I was fine with that.

Most of the goblins were swinging wooden clubs above their head, while some held those rusty iron swords. Seeing them gave me an idea. I could probably sell the iron swords to a blacksmith for some extra pocket change. Let's face it. Iron is still iron, even if parts of it are rusted.

While I was thinking these things, the goblins finally reached us. Galdo had taken out another twelve of them with his arrows, and Bella, whose mana had run dry was leaning against a tree while sipping on a Mana recovery potion she took out of her bag.

There were roughly fourty of them remaining. The first goblins that reached us came running at me, clubs raised above their heads. I quickly sidestepped them and slashed out behind me, slicing right through their necks. Spinning toward the front again, I ran forward at full speed and took out a few more goblins before falling back to where Evan was.

He had a few more of them by his feet, leaving less than twenty incoming goblins. A few of the goblins that had been running at us finally realized that their numbers had been greatly reduced, and they started running away. Galdo saw that and started picking them off as they fled. The rest of them died by Evan's and my blade.

We were all basically dragging our feet as we left the forest. After the fight, the exhaustion hit us hard and we all sat down for a bit to regain some energy. after that I suggested we collect the ears and swords. After some explaining and showing them my enhanced bag, everyone agreed that it would be a good idea to take the swords.

The guards at the southern gate opened the gates for us after we showed them our Status Cards. While we were walking down the road towards the guild, we looked at each other and smiles gradually appeared on our tired faces. Evan put out his hand, curled in a fist and we ended up having a group fist bump.

"I bet most F ranked Adventurers can't claim to have beaten over one hundred goblins in a single fight." Galdo said while laughing. The rest of us chuckled at that and we entered the guild while holding our heads high. Sure they were just goblins, but that wasn't going to stop us from being proud of our accomplishment.

We moved to the Rewards Counter and had to wait in a line for a few minutes before it was our turn.

"You guys were doing a goblin extermination quest, right? Let's see here... You needed to kill twenty goblins for this quest. Take out the proof of the hunt and we will go through your reward." Bailey said in a very professional manner.

"Before that, we were wondering what happens if we went over the amount required. Is there a bonus or something of the sort?" I spoke on our behalf.

"Well it depends on the monster. Since you guys were killing goblins, every extra goblin is another fifteen coppers." Bailey said as she took out a tray for us to place the proof on.

"Perfect. Well, here is the proof of the hunt." I said as I started taking out the goblins left ears from my bag. The amount piled up very quickly, and she had to take out another tray halfway through.

"G- give me a moment, I need to count all of this." Bailey stuttered a bit in shock. Well, fresh F ranked adventurers almost never got more than the required amount, so it was pretty obvious we had gone a bit overboard. Hey, it wasn't our fault. We had no choice.

She took the trays into a room in the back and returned a moment later with the final numbers. "The requested amount was twenty goblins. The four of you managed to kill a shocking one hundred and thirty seven goblins today. The reward for the quest was eight silvers, but with the extra one hundred and seventeen goblins killed the total is twenty five silvers and fifty five coppers."

Bailey then pulled out a bag from under the counter and piled up the coins on the counter for us to verify the amount. Once we had accepted the reward, she took our cards and went through the regular procedure. Once we got back our Status Cards, we decided to go and celebrate our victory. What better way to celebrate than a banquet!

We left the guild as the sun was setting, casting the sky in a beautiful shade of red. We went to the food district, and at Evan's recommendation, we ate at a restaurant called The Lambs Hoof. It was a steakhouse style place, and their meat was amazing. We ate and drank while talking well into the night and once we were satisfied, we paid for the food and then split the remaining money afterwards. We each earned five silvers exactly after everything was said and done.

I was very tired as I stumbled up the steps to my room in the inn. I had wanted to check my Status Card, but I guess I'd do that in the morning. I was out the moment my body it the bed.
