11 Learning About The Attributes

"Magic has 10 attributes." Bella started her explanation as such. "They are collectively called the Ten Laws. They are split into three groups of spells, based on how common they are. Group number one is known as the Elemental group. This includes fire, water, ice, wind, earth and lightning. These attributes are the most commonly found in any person. My attributes fall into this category, as I am proficient in both wind and earth magic."

Taking a small rock from on top of the boulder she was sitting on, she started scratching something on the boulder. After a few minutes she moved away so I could see what she had written. It was a list of the Elemental attributes and their weaknesses.

Wind: Earth and Fire

Water: Wind and Lightning

Fire: Water and Earth

Ice: Fire and Lightning

Earth: Ice and Lightning

Lightning: Fire and Wind

I read the list and memorized it quickly with the help of the Unique skill, Memory Safe. Once I was done, we moved on to the next group. "The next group is called the World group. People with these attributes are much rarer than a person with any other type of attribute. This group includes Light, Dark and Dimensional magic." At this, Bella scratched a triangle onto the boulder and wrote Light at the top, Dimension in the bottom left, and Dark in the bottom right.

"Starting from the top, Light is strong against Dark, but weak to Dimensional. Dark is strong against Dimensional, but weak to Light. Lastly, Dimensional is strong against Light, but weak to Dark. It's a perfect circle of balance also known as the World's Balance. It's just a name some Magic researcher came up with hundreds of years ago, but it explains itself quite well."

"Now the last group isn't actually a group. It is only one type of magic, and also the only non-combat magic. This is known as Void magic. Anyone who doesn't have one of the other nine attributes has this attribute, but most can't use it since their MP is too low. Those who can use it, mostly use it to makes chores easier. Void can do stuff like cleaning, and Moving heavy objects. It isn't very useful overall."

Bella stood up and stretched, causing a couple joints to make cracking sounds. "Now close your eyes and focus your mind. Discard any distracting thoughts. Sense the flow of mana within you, and search for the colors of your mana. Those colors will tell you which attributes you have."

I closed my eyes and did as she said. I started by steadying my breathing, and slowly my muscles relaxed as I entered a meditative state. I stayed there for a while, hovering on the edge of true focus. I had no idea how long I had been sitting like that, simply feeling the breeze and trying to sense the mana within.

After what felt like a few moments, I started sensing something like a small stream, flowing within myself. As I followed the stream, it slowly widened as more streams combined and eventually became a river, flowing within my veins. Eventually, I could see the river flowing in my veins, and I started picking out the colors within this river. Red. Green. Brown. Blue. Yellow. Silver. White. Black. Purple. Slowly but surely, I found all these colors swirling around within the river. They intertwined and separated smoothly, mesmerizing me with it's complexity and amazing me in it's simplicity.

I opened my eyes and was shocked to see the sun was already nearly set. Bella was shaking me a bit, trying to get me back to my senses.

"C'mon, we have to get back to the town before the sun finishes setting. Otherwise they will close the gates!" She said once she noticed I had woken up.

I quickly jumped of the boulder and with Bella's permission, started running at full speed with her on my back. Once the gates were in view, we could see that they were already closing the gates, so I kicked it into high gear and just as the gates closed, we managed to slide past and into the city.

"Wow! That's some nice speed you have there. If you were a moment later, you would have been stuck outside for the night." One of the guards said while I was trying to catch my breath. They were nice enough to let me catch my breath before making sure we had our ID's, and once we were cleared they sent us on our way.

While walking down the main street, Bella asked me what I had found. As I thought back on what I saw, I started listing the colors. With every color I listed, Bella's face became more and more pale. "Is everything alright? You're face is really pale, Bella."

She just turned to look at me with eyes filled with shock. "Do you not realize that you just listed every attribute?!?" Bella basically screamed at me. "That is almost as rare as someone having a True Unique!" You might find two or three such people every fifty years!"

The enormity of what this meant slowly dawned on me. I could almost hear God laughing in the background knowing full well what she had done. If I met her again, I was going to give her an earful.

I was basically a living miracle, having both a True Unique and all attributes in magic. While it was amazing, I didn't want to stand out so much. Well, if I couldn't fight for my slow life, I'd just have to stand at the top. I had made up my mind. I would reach the pinnacle that all adventurers aspired to. This was going to be one hell of a journey. I could even call it the greatest adventure of my life.

First, I needed to learn how to use the magic I now knew I had. But that would be tomorrow. For now, Bella and I decided to take another slime hunting quest in the morning, as they were best for practicing beginner magic on.

Once we said our goodbyes, we split ways and I went back to the inn. After receiving my key from Marielle, I plopped on the bed and just like that, I was off into the world of dreams.
