19 Grass Wolves Are Not That Fast... To Me

At noon, by the west gate of Desil, I picked up my enhanced bag, which now held all our camping supplies and my own stuff inside. Bella and her parents were walking down the main road. It seemed her parents were making sure she had everything before she left.

Once they reached the gate, Diana, Bella's mom hugged her tightly for a moment before letting go. "Stay safe and when you reach Feido, don't forget to send a letter home. Try and send letters whenever you can, but I won't be expecting too much." She laughed a bit at the end, which was nice to see.

Edgar, Bella's father and the blacksmith who made my sword, came over to me and held out his calloused hand which I grasped tightly. "Take care out there. You two need to stay safe, and I expect to hear a lot from you too. Bella shouldn't be the only one reporting your adventures." He said with a smile.

I promised we would send updates whenever we could and he smiled in return. A few minutes later, both Bella and I were headed out the west gate. Her parents waved goodbye from just inside the gate and we smiled as we waved back. we kept looking back until we were over the top of a hill and once we decended, we could no longer see the walls of Desil.

"I'm gonna miss my parents." Bella said while on the verge of tears.

"Why? We will come back one day, and by then our names will have reached their ears hundreds of times! It'll be like they were on our journey the whole time. I'm sure they're proud of you and happy to see you start your life." I comforted her as best I could.

After a few moments, she smiled and said, "You're right. Why should I be sad? We have an adventure ahead of us! Let's get going!" Bella grabbed my arm at those words and started tugging me along to make me walk faster. I laughed and picked up the pace, making her smile in return.

Two hours later, we were walking through the plains some distance from Desil. The grass here came all the way up to our thighs. Suddenly, we felt three presences running right at us through the skill Presence Detection. Bella and I took out our respective weapons, hers being her staff while mine was the steel sword made by her father. I kept the Titan Sword in my bag, since I had taken Fendal's letter to heart.

Anyway, a moment later, three strange wolves jumped out of the tall grass, their jaws open wide, fangs and claws ready to tear us apart. I easily sidestepped their surprise attack and swung my sword up into the stomach of the one closest to me. It tore right through the wolve's stomach. Once I felt the sword had reached the spine, I pulled back my sword, letting the body collapse on the ground.

The two other wolves were now wary of me, they circled me, looking for an opening in my defense. That was a big mistake. Forgetting there was another person with me. The wolf circling to my left suddenly let out a loud howl, and then went silent. Bella had sliced it with two different wind blades causing it to shriek in pain before dying.

The remaining wolf slowly backed up before turning around and running away. "Get back here!" I murmured to myself as I chased after it. Within a few second, I had already caught up to the wolf, very much to it's surprise. With a single stroke, I took it down and it's body tumbled a bit before coming to a complete stop.

Once it was dead, I took a closer look at the wolf, since I was curious about something. For wolves, they were pretty clever. First a sneak attack, then circling their target, and once they confirmed that they would lose, running for safety. Sure it wasn't amazing strategy, but a normal wolf would just attack until either their target or they were dead.

Anyway, the fur had a slight green tinge to it, and it's claws were much longer than you would expect. They were probably around the length of a dagger.

It's eyes were also a bright, nearly glowing green, which was proof that it was a monster.

I dragged the wolf's body back to were Bella was, and saw that she was already collecting the proof of the hunt along with the pelts and some of the larger fangs. The proof for these wolves was their dagger-like claws, which made sense to me once I thought about it. They were probably also good material for making daggers, as they were already the right length and very durable.

Anyway, once we finished dismantling the material from the wolves, we bumped fists and continued on. Over the next few hours, we killed many more grass wolves, as I learned they were actually called. I quickly realized just how broken my agility stat was.

I was far faster than the wolves, and I wasn't even at a crazy high level.

Many grass wolves and a few fanged rabbits later, the sun had almost finished setting. we were now setting up our camp on top of a small hill, with a clear view in all directions. If anything or anyone tried to attack us, we would discover them very quickly.

Once we set the camp up, I decided I'd take first watch. Bella helped me set up a fire, and once that was done, she crawled into the tent and a few minutes later, I could hear her breathing become softer. I sat by the fire, slowly feeding it more wood and drawing on the ground with a stick. Presence Detection was keeping me aware of anything that might come attack us.

A once the moon had started it's decent, I woke up Bella and we switched places. I clumsily got into the tent and just like that, I was asleep.
