The Millionaire Wife

"How can you do this to me?", exclaimed Alice. She was sobbing heavily. Another fight had broken out between Alice and her husband. These daily fights were now becoming a routine for Alice and James,who had been married happily for 3 years. "Alice grow up! You don't know how the business world works. I am going to marry her whether you like it or not!", shouted James angrily. He was a tall,handsome and a clever man but most importantly he was a millionaire and one of the biggest business tycoons in the York City. Any girl would easily fall for him. It was true he no longer had any feelings for Alice after becoming rich and was soon marrying a rich girl

Alice stared at him in dismay. How dare he talk about business in front of her?! Alice had been with him since he was poor and broke!

"Hubby, what about the days we spent together? When you had nothing and were poor? Remember how we ran away from our parents' home to marry each other? How can you betray me now after getting a few bucks?", Alice said timidly. It was true that their marriage was an example of love. They met each other in university and had been in relationship ever since. Alice was the prettiest girl in her university and many men admired her. However she and James were classmates and she didn't know when she fell in love with him. It was all so quick and magical. James was very poor back then and owned a small clothing brand which wasn't so successful. But Alice did not cared about his wealth, she believed in true love. James had been very broke recently. Had it not been his luck that Showbiz Universe, the biggest showbiz industry in the York city, signed a deal with his clothing brand a few months ago, he would still have been poor. Now that he was rich, he felt he must raise his standards and marry a millionaire girl whose mindset matches his.

James stared at her angrily. It was the most sensitive topic for James. He did not liked to be reminded of his poor past. He was now a millionaire and he wanted to act like one. "I am sorry Alice but I am afraid we are not meant for each other. I will send the divorce papers to you tomorrow. Stay happy", sighed James as he barged out of the room and slammed the door shut.

Alice could not help but watch helplessly as James walked out. Their relationship was now over. The love of her life has turned his back on her. Alice burst into tears and sobbed as she recalled the years spent together. She would be bullied by her friends for marrying a broke, poor husband while all of them were married to rich brats. Still, she believed in James and ran away with him when her father would not agree to her marriage with James. She had not contacted her father or any of her relatives ever since. She had sacrificed so much for James but now she was alone, with no one to look after and take care of her. She realised it was true that money cannot buy happiness. She would have been much happier if James would remain poor and broke.

Alice wiped her tears. It was no use crying over something that was already gone. She got up and started packing her things. She had made her mind. She would no longer stay in James' house. Her father was still alive and well off. Although he lived abroad and Alice had not contacted him for more than 2 years, she knew her father would forgive her for her mistakes and accept her again. She could lead a decent life then without having to worry about her survival.

Immediately, she packed her clothes, jewellery and anything which she could find. She opened her drawer and took out $200. She been saving this money from the pocket money she used to receive from James. This would be enough to catch a flight and arrive at her father's house. Without wasting any more time she marched out of her room and left the house. She was finally free! She was no longer dependent on James.

Alice strolled through the empty streets of York city. The weather was particularly romantic today. There was a special peace and silence in the atmosphere. What a perfect night to spend with your love! Memories of James appeared in her mind as she saw couples holding hands and walking slowly in the street. She remembered how she used to come for long walks with James and enjoy the romantic streets of the city.

Alice suddenly came back to her senses. She would have to forget James now otherwise the memories will keep torturing her. Alice walked hurriedly, in search of somewhere where she can spend the night. Suddenly she saw a hotel. It was not a five star hotel but still lavish enough for one to sleep comfortably. Alice did not wanted to get in a five star hotel anyway, she just needed to spend the night here and the next morning she would already be on the plane to meet her father. Without a second thought she went inside and booked the room
