Chapter :-93 The Strategic-Class Magic

Inside 5th Research Institute…..

A woman wearing golden-rimmed glasses similar to the one's Henrik wears could be seen standing within an observation room.

The woman had silver-white hair and green eyes, she wore white lab coats and white gloves over her palms while a purple-pendent could be seen hanging from her neck.

A big 'M' could be seen printed behind her coat and on the side of the glasses, signifying her origin as a Mikaelson.

Behind her stood a man wearing a black cloak and a single long-sword hanging from his waist, his left hand held a C.A.D which was the latest invention of the [Mikaelson Research and Development Department], M.R.D.D for short.

Casting Assistant Device, better known as CAD is a spell support processor. Magicians also call them Device or Assistance, and in Japan Magic Operator. It is a machine researched & developed using Magical Engineering Technology.

This device incorporates synthetic materials (artificially manufactured Neurons) that convert Psion signals into electric signals, using the Psion from a magic ritual (sequence) to produce a collection of electronic magic — the Activation Sequence.

CADs allows the processing of all the necessary components for magic in a single moment. In detail, these devices help accelerate the invocation of magic, as well as provide stability.

CADs replace traditional tools such as spell chants, talismans, magic staves, tomes, hand seals, magic circles, and other traditional methods of invoking magic. It is a tool of necessity for any modern Magic Technician.

If a magician "A" places hands on a magician "B"'s CAD while the magic is being cast, then magician "A" will receive the interference 1000 fold (times).

The development, production and sale of CADs are heavily subsidized by the government as a matter of national interest. Retail pricing is only 10% of the actual cost, as a result of that policy.

Even so, families can usually only afford to purchase one CAD per child as a celebratory present when they enter high school. Turnover sales are low since a magician might personally own only 5 or 6 CADs and there are only about 30,000 CAD users of high school age or older.

These factors make the civilian CAD market a difficult one and cause companies to be heavily beholden to their respective governments.

At the heart of the CAD's is the induction stone. Induction stones are a component meant to connect psion signals and electrical signals. However, not all Induction Stones are the same and have to be adjusted depending on the design and efficiency. The designs of the stones are a significant intellectual asset of each company and nation.

There are CADs in different shapes or forms such as bracelet-shaped CADs, mobile terminal-shaped CADs, long and short gun-shaped CADs, rifle-shaped ones, and special weapons or ornaments that conceal a CAD

While it is a tool that helps with the magic invocation, it does not mean that anyone who possesses a CAD can use magic. The CAD only provides the activation sequence, and it is the ability of the Magic Technician himself that invokes the magic.

Magicians infuse Psion particles inherent in their bodies into the activation sequence output by the CAD and feed that from the subconscious magic processing system present in all magicians into the magic operations area. Here the activation sequence is expanded, and all the necessary parameters input, in order to assemble the magic ritual.

The man was in his late twenties and wore shades, his back leaning against the wall as he watched the spectacle happening outside the watch box.

A dark-skinned young man was standing many feet above a half-cubical shaped depression, on a balcony-type stand. He was wearing a black-coloured skin cover which highlighted his body muscles. Various white-patches connected to a large monitor at a distance using wire were stuck over the black outfit.

'Eagle', one of the 7-individuals who trained under Henrik Mikaelson and was a member of the disbanded Hydra squad and was recruited to the 5th-institute by Freya herself due to him being a [Water Element], the first generation of Water manipulators.

The research was highly classified since the magic being developed as a potential Strategic-class Magic.

There were three stages classified for Magic.

Combat-Class Magic - magic with the power to make small groups in interpersonal combat unable to fight.

Tactical-Class Magic - magic with the power to incapacitate large groups, alternatively, to destroy mobile weapons such as tanks or fighter aircraft.

Strategic-Class Magic - magic with the power to destroy a city or fleet with a single blow.

Freya was researching upon Material Phase Manipulation Magic. She proto-designed a [Strategic-class magic] based on Fluid Control Magic, named [Abyss].

She along with a few other researchers were trying to successfully master the state change for the final designing of the Strategic-Class Magic.

Though the technically easy Fluid Control has turned mainstream, the researchers had succeeded in Solid-State Phase Manipulation.

After months of research and running multiple activation sequence in a situation-simulator, Freya finally had enough data to conduct a proper execution of this potential Strategic Level Magic and 'Eagle' had the highest compatibility rate with the spell structure due to its origin being water.

The woman walked towards the mic installed in the control panel and spoke in a soft but clear tone.

"Ok! Everyone take our positions!…."

"Vitals monitor..!?"

The monitor displayed 'Eagle' vitals, his body temperature, stress level, exertion level, oxygen level, psion reverses, etc.

After checking that the equipment was working perfectly, one of the researched signalled with his raised thumb.

"Go..!"

"Real-time simulation sequence….!?"

Suddenly the gaps at the bottom of the half-cubical shaped depression opened and large amounts of water started entering the pit.

Soon the half-cubical shaped depression was fully filled, reflecting a huge ocean as the underground faculty was extremely huge.

"Go..!"

"Material Phase Manipulation Magic Sequence..!?"

'Eagle' channelled his psions into the C.A.D which assisted in helping him execute the complex activation sequence.

"Go..!"

'Eagle' took a deep breath before speaking in a heavy-tone.

"[Fluid Control Magic:-Abyss]….."

A huge magic activation sequence appeared on the surface of the water, the water in the centre of the sequence started to move downwards as the magic created a spherical depression in water with a diameter up to several kilometres and a depth of up to a kilometre.

Seeing the activation working properly, Freya excitedly spoke to the recorder.

"Checking Magician Status….."

"Status:-Healthy…."

"Checking Sequence stability..."

"Stability:-100%….."

"Checking for Psion fluctuations..."

"None found….."

"Execution of Magic..."

"Flawless….."

Freya moved her head of the mic towards her mouth and spoke in a proud tone.

"Project:-Abyss is a success! I repeat! Project:-Abyss is a success!….."

After hearing the words leave her mouth, the researchers burst into cheers while 'Eagle' slowly and steadily deactivated the Activation sequence.

The water level returned to its horizontal level, swallowing anything within the area it occupied.

"Wow! Yeah! We did it!…..hahahahaa!"

"Yeah! We finally succeeded!"

"We have created a Strategic-Class Magic!"

"Yay!"

The water was slowly drained to the storage as once again the half-cubical shaped depression became empty.

Within the observation box….

"Congrats! You succeeded in the task that Henrik-sama requested you to finish!"

Honda Tadakatsu congratulated Freya with a slight smile as she succeeded in the research Henrik requested her to do. As her bodyguard, he had to maintain a constant state of vigilance and observe everything around him.

As soon as the 3rd World War neared, his Lord had started acting a little differently, his aura was a bit darker than usual and his suspicion proved correct when his Lord asked Freya-sama to work on research which required a lot of focus and attention.

His Lord was up to something dark and scary and he didn't want anyone to know about it, so Honda kept quiet and acted like he didn't notice any difference.

Though it felt bad for not telling Freya about her little brother's strange behaviour, Honda felt that he had taken the best course of action he could, considering his own life could be on the line.

Freya turned towards her bodyguard and replied with a smile.

"Yeah, I did it! It sure was hard but since Henrik placed his trust in me that I had to do it! My brother had already faced enough disappointment from his family, I won't allow him to feel the same due to myself."

Freya opened a file and started writing down the results and data she gained from her successful experiment.

•Strategic-Class Magic

Abyss is a Movement Type Magic that has its own classification, Fluid Control. The magic can create a spherical depression in water with a diameter up to several kilometres and a depth of up to a kilometre. Ships caught in the zone would be pulled down the walls of the water, then upon cancellation of the magic, would be swallowed up by the massive waves as the water returned to a horizontal plane. The depth of the sphere allows for the destruction of submarines as well.

It can also be used on subterranean groundwater, allowing it to destroy any structures on top of it. This magic is theoretically capable of destroying fleets with single-use, earning it, its classification as a Strategic-Class Magic.

•Weaknesses

Abyss is completely powerless against attacks from the air because Abyss cannot be used to attack enemies in the sky. Also, Abyss can only be used to manipulate water, which means that it is powerless if used on land unless the caster knew beforehand that there is a subterranean source of water that the magic can be cast on.

Also, Abyss with its great attack range may possibly damage allies unintentionally like other Strategic-Class Magic.

Looking at Freya, desperately trying to keep her little brother happy, Honda thought to himself.
