Savior only receives curses

The guard was stupid and gullible, but he wasn't completely useless. He had given Fu Jie all the info he needed, at least it was enough for now.

He got to know why he was in jail and he also got to know who his cellmate was and although he didn't completely know who Xiao Jingyi was, at least he was able to collect more information on the man than just a name.

Fu Jie still found it odd to believe that Xiao Jingyi was the sect leader's son and was also a son to the demonic cultivator they were all chasing. The sect leader was a woman and the demonic cultivator was probably a guy so maybe he was their son, but somehow Fu Jie could feel that it wasn't the case. If the demonic cultivator was her husband, he would have never been chased away like this.

The pieces just didn't seem to fit together and Fu Jie felt the urge to find the missing piece.

Before Fu Jie could think any further, he heard the sound of talking and rushing footsteps.

"I saw it here! This way! " It was the voice of the guard who had just run away.

Fu Jie cursed in his mind as he saw the situation.

It was as if he was confused whether this guard was a fool or not. At moments, this guard would act as if he lacked a piece of his brain and at other times, he would act as if he had an extra troublesome piece of brain attached to his head.

Instead of simply running away, the man went and brought more people with him.

Fu Jie thought that his cover had surely been blown and he didn't waste any further time as he ran away.

"Where is it?" Another guard asked impatiently as he looked around, but Fu Jie was no longer near them so he couldn't hear what was being said.

The man who had his white robe completed stained with dirt and pee, walked over to a short tree and pointed at it as he said, "This is the one."

The guard who only seemed to have muscles and no brain looked at the tree in suspicion as he commented, "I don't see anything out of the ordinary."

"I think it's a bit shy." The man stroked the bark of the tree as he spoke, "You can talk now. Why aren't you saying anything, tree spirit?"

How could the tree spirit say anything when the 'spirit' in question had sprinted away?

The second guard walked up to the tree and analyzed it carefully. A minute passed as he looked at the man and asked, "Are you sure that it's this one?"

The man eagerly nodded as he spoke, "I remember! I even peed here! You can see! I'm not mistaken!"

"..."

What he received as a reward for reporting a tree spirit was a smack to the head.

"How dare you waste our time?!"

The two guards walked away after scolding him.

"But... It really was this tree," The man mumbled as he looked at the tree, "You can speak, can't you?"

"I can."

The man's eyes widened as he looked at the tree. He had clearly heard this tree's voice just now but why was it so much different from the voice he had heard before this?

"Did you change voices, tree spirit?"

"..."

A minute passed as the man waited for an answer.

"I see, you're a fool." That was the last thing the tree spirit said before it decided to seal its mouth shut once again.

"Huh?" The man couldn't understand anything.

Fu Jie didn't know where he was heading but he was simply running away from any kind of sound. This whole forest was filled with guards and he had to be really careful not to alert any of them.

With guards in every nook and cranny, it was only natural that he bumped into one as he ran.

"He's here! After him!"

"Catch him!"

The guards started yelling as they saw Fu Jie and Fu Jie immediately changed his direction but after running for a bit he realized that he was covered from the back and front so he decided to go towards his left but it was also blocked by guards which made him choose the path on his right side. He ran as fast he could and prayed in his mind that nobody would catch up to him.

He no longer cared about what was in front of him as he ran, he tried his best to avoid trees but his main focus was on the guards that were following him. He had to get rid of them but they seemed to be running a lot faster than him.

If this were a game, Fu Jie would have certainly cut the trees and made a roadblock to slow them down, but he had no tools in hand and he didn't have enough energy to go through all that trouble. He didn't even know if he could keep on running.

For a moment, he was sure that he was going to get caught all over again but in the next minute, someone grabbed onto his wrist and pulled him away.

When he opened his eyes again, he was in a building, or more like, a courtyard of a building. He looked around and found that there were no more trees and no more guards running after him.

"Made it just in time, don't you think?" He heard a familiar voice and when he turned his head he was met with a familiar face of a man he was annoyed at.

"You!" Fu Jie immediately grew angry as he shouted, "Pigheaded sh*tty bastard! How dare you abandon me?!"

Bai Ling unconsciously took a step back as he heard the man cursing at him, "Calm down, brother."

"You dumbf**k!! Let me show you how calm I can be." Fu Jie immediately threw a punch at the man's face but it never connected as Bai Ling caught his fist with a smile on his face.

"Calm down," Bai Ling sighed.

Fu Jie gritted his teeth and tried to pull his fist back but Bai Ling's grip on his fist was a bit too hard and no matter how hard he tried, he was unable to retrieve his hand so he used his left hand to throw another punch but even that fist was stopped by Bai Ling who smiled as he saw the man's struggles to beat him.

"Let me go, you piece of minced meat!"

Bai chuckled as he twisted Fu Jie's hand, "I told you to calm down, didn't I?"

Fu Jie felt the pain flow through his hand and it made veins pop up on his forehead but he was still unwilling to admit defeat so he only glared at Bai Ling.

Bai Ling saw the man's face going red and immediately let go of his fist. He raised his hand up in defeat although it was clear that if it came to a fistfight, he was clearly going to be the winner.

"I surrender," Bai Ling beamed as he saw Fu Jie rubbing his wrist that had turned red, "Why don't we talk it out like civilized people?"

Fu Jie glared at the man, his mouth wanted to curse the man to death but there was a sense of newborn fear in his heart after having his hand almost ripped off.

"You!" Fu Jie gritted out as he closed his eyes, his forehead creasing up as he tried to control his anger, "Explain it right now!"

Bai Ling smiled brightly as if the person who had almost broken Fu Jie's hand wasn't him, "I can't be seen by them."

"Why? Are you a fugitive or something?"

Bai Ling tilted his head as he spoke, "How did you know?"

Fu Jie was left in shock with his mouth agape as he heard this. Suddenly he had a thought: Was this man the demonic cultivator they were all chasing after?

Bai Ling broke out laughing as he saw the dumbfounded expression on Fu Jie's face. "You don't need to worry," He spoke up trying his best to control his laughter, "I'm not a fugitive."

"Then who the hell are you?"

"You'll know," Bai Ling beamed, "But we have more important things to discuss right now."

"What important things are you talking about?"

"You have an identity in this world. Now you need to play it."

"Yes I have an identity," Fu Jie glared at the man as he continued, "An identity of a fugitive! What type of dumb joke is this?!"

Bai Ling snickered as he shook his head, "An identity is an identity, you better not complain. It could've been worse."

"What's worse than running for your life?"

"Running for someone else's life?"

"What?"

"Nothing. Forget it," Bai Ling shrugged it off but Fu Jie was sure that he saw something in the man's eyes. It was a sense of sadness that was well masked behind a smile and was gone as soon as it was displayed.

Bai Ling, "You need to get accustomed to your identity. Make sure that no one can see through your disguise."

"Isn't there something you are forgetting?"

Bai Ling seemed to think about it before he responded, "The only thing I forgot today was taking a bath... Let's pretend you didn't hear that."

Fu Jie took a step back as he nodded.

"H-hey! You're not one to talk! You stink!"

"Well, I was in jail with two corpses! Of course, I stink!" Fu Jie had never been disrespected like this. His embarrassment knew no bounds and the only thing he wanted to do urgently was to take a bath and get rid of this rotting smell.

"Tch-"

Fu Jie had never wanted to choke someone more than now. This Bai Ling was definitely not the Bai Ling he had heard about from his mother. Bai Ling from the legend was supposed to be kind, gentle, and loveable while this man was the complete opposite of all those traits.

"You forgot to tell me who I am!"

"Little brother, you should know your own identity. Why pin that on me? You are so careless."

Fu Jie took a deep breath in and let it out as he remembered the teachings of his yoga instructor who was forced to help him with his anger issues. He took another deep breath in but it was still useless. That yoga instructor lied! His anger wasn't going away like air!

He glared at Bai Ling who looked at him innocently.

Bai Ling tilted his head and seemed to have a small smile on his face as he looked expectantly at Fu Jie.

"Liu Fu Jie! That's my name in this world...?"

"You're so smart! How did you know that?" Bai Ling questioned.

"..."

"You are called Liu Fu Jie, a member of the sky sect."

"..."

"..."

"And?"

"And what?"

Fu Jie looked around to see if he could find something. Maybe a stick or a stone that could be used to hit this useless man who called himself the Gamemaster.

If this man was the Gamemaster then Fu Jie would directly want to yeet this man off a cliff. Kick him down like a football! Slam dunk him like a bag of potatoes!

"Do you need help finding the way to the sect?" Bai Ling asked innocently, "But I suggest you don't go there if you don't wish to go back to prison."

Fu Jie could almost imagine himself throwing this man off a cliff. The more he talked, the more vivid Fu Jie's imagination would become.

Fu Jie sighed as he looked around, "Where are we?"

Bai Ling also turned his attention to the courtyard in which they were standing, "You want to know where we are?"

Fu Jie nodded as he analyzed the courtyard. He didn't know why but he had a feeling that they were in a house.

"I have no idea," Bai Ling beamed.

"You dumbsh*t! Where did you take me?!"
