9 Chapter 9 :

Okay, I'm getting nervous now. I twirl and twist the daylight signet ring around my index finger. The thing, though small but allows me to walk in the sun. But my energy, once out in the sunlight, decreases anyways. Will Lucas come to know what I am?

Will he still work for me? Can I make him stay?

No, Godfrey you can't. Once he knows, he'll pick up his shoes and run for the hills. It's better if you don't do anything stupid, Godfrey. My subconscious snarls at me. I'm pulled out of my misery by a ping. I check the email.

Damian,

Yeah, I'm free tomorrow evening. We can arrange a time for dinner once I come for work to your office tomorrow. Good night.

Why am I behaving like a puppy? When have I been so nervous asking people out? It's a piece of bite sized cake for me.

Am I not pulling him into danger? I have many enemies, and over the years they have conspired against me but I managed to drive them off. Pulling him into my world can be dangerous for him. God forbid, if something happens to him, because of me…I don't know what I'd do. I'll keep him safe. Forever. What the fuck am I even thinking about? I marshal away my wayward thoughts. What if something really happens to him? Godfrey, you're paranoid. I type out a quick reply.

Dear Lucas,

I look forward to it. Good night.

I take a packet of pretzels and I start munching

them, one by one. It's nice not growing old, being the eternal stud.

Guys and girls can never resist my charms and my good looks and ofcourse, my money. Uh, people do love me for my money. It always comes down to the goddamn money. But this guy…he seems different. My world is dark and dangerous. And I don't trust anyone. I should probably go to sleep. I'm thinking too much. Being a 250+ year old vampire, I can handle some pressure. I wake up at 5:45 am. Perfect. I sigh. I didn't get any nightmares yesterday, weird but good. I put on my track suit and my nike sneakers as I go out for a run. The day is gloomy, clouds overcast the sky. The sun isn't out yet and hopefully wouldn't be, anytime soon. After a run of about half an hour, I go home.

I pull out a pack of cigarettes. Marlboro Red. I like the taste of it. I clasp it by entrapping it in between my lips, most part of it out of my mouth, I lit my cigarette with a lighter. I let out the smoke with forms a perfect ring, as it disappeares in the air. I should do something to chill out. I'm thinking too much these days. I open my laptop as I plan a trip to London with my private jet today. I have to inform some of my employees about my unplanned break. First comes, Natalie. I call her and she picks up quickly.

"Natalie. I'm taking a break for 2 days. Have Rod to keep my jet ready in 30 minutes. I am going to Los Angeles."

"Sure, sir. I'll inform Rod right now. Your jet isn't scheduled for 1 week, so it's at your disposal."

"Great. Inform Stefan about my break too. Have a good day, Natalie."

"You too, sir. Happy and safe journey."

Now that's dealt with. I get some of my clothes and about 8 bloodbags in my suitcase. I wrote down a quick note to Mrs. Reed and stuck it on the fridge, informing her about my departure. She's sleeping, so I don't want to wake her up.

I was planning something else today. What was it? I scratch my head, I don't know. I quickly brush my teeth and get ready for boarding my jet. Liquids aren't allowed in jets. But, I'm the owner of the jet. I make the rules. I say to myself, as I smirk at the reflection of myself in the mirror.

Fuck. I had promised to take Lucas to dinner today. Crap. Holy shit.

I call Natalie again and she picks up in 4 rings.

"Natalie. Is Lucas Carter here yet, in the office?"

"Yes, sir. He's just entered."

Crap. What do I do? I have to quickly formulate a plan.

"Fine. Tell him that I'll be here in outside office with my car. And tell him to get in the car without making a fuss about it. It's my order."

"Right away, sir." I hang up. I can't belive that I'm bringing him to Los Angeles with me. What am I even doing? Luke takes out my Audi and we reach the office and I spot Lucas standing outside.

I get out of the car. "Lucas, get in the car."

He crosses his hands over his chest. Shit. I sense a verbal fight. Not now. Not infront of my office.

"Why?" He hisses.

"Because I said so. Questions later. You're coming with me to Los Angeles." I inform.

"To Los Angeles? With you?" He scoffs as he points a finger towards me. What's wrong in coming with me?

"Yes. With me. To Los Angeles. That's not up for debate." I glare at him.

"But why? We had a plan for just dinner today." His gaze softens.

"Yes. I planned a trip to Los Angeles and I'm a man of my word. So you're having dinner with me. In Vegas or in London, it's just about dinner." I try to reason out.

"I don't get it." He furrows his eyebrows.

"Do you trust me?" I look deep into his eyes.

He takes a sharp breath. "Yes." I didn't realise that I had been holding my breath. But you shouldn't trust me, baby.

"Then, hop in the car." I point towards the car as he and I get it. I don't know what this trip is going to bring for us.
