7 Chapter 7

I call Natalie for her to come into my office again. I just hope she isn't getting pissed at me. She scurries into my room.

"You called, Mr. Godfrey?" I nod.

"Bring me a cup of coffee and some strawberry lollipops." She archs an eyebrow.

This is none of your fucking business.

"Sure, sir." And she's gone. She returns shortly after as she places the cup of coffee and some lollipops on my desk and leaves. There's a faint knock on my door.

"Come in." I order. As Lucas stands by the doorway.

"Have a seat, Lucas." He obeys and sits down on one of the chairs facing me.

I hand him the roses as he examines the card and he finally smiles. Ah, maybe this hearts and flowers thing worked.

"Thank you. I'm also sorry, I overreacted and threw you out of the room in your own office building." His tone is apologetic.

"Nope. It's okay, I understand." I say, as I offer him the cup of coffee and he takes a sip. I quickly open up the wrapper of one lollipop with my agile fingers and pop it into my mouth. I swirl the candy around my lips as Lucas shifts uncomfortably in his seat. Okay, this is affecting him. Good.

"I thought you called me in your office so that you could fire me." He mumbles. Oh no, baby. I wouldn't dare. I lean against my desk, bringing my face closer to him.

"I wish to do a lot of things with you but, firing you is not one of them." I whisper huskily. My voice is hoarse, seductive.

He puts the empty coffee cup down on the desk and snatches the lollipop out of my mouth by forcing the stick out of my lips. I gape at him. I want an explanation for this absurd reaction. And then, he quickly puts the candy in his mouth, as he deliberately sucks it. I uncomfortably shift in my seat.

"Lollipops aren't allowed, Mr. Godfrey. Thank you for the flowers." And he walks out of my office, leaving me agape. What the fuck just happened? I need to distract myself.

Lucas Carter bites back! He snatched my fucking lollipop saying it's not allowed. Jesus Christ. I can't believe this just happened.

My phone buzzes and it's Stefan. What a pleasant surprise! I pick up the call.

"Godfrey." I announce.

"Mr. Godfrey, it's Stefan Bailey."

"Ah, Stefan. Are you back?"

"Yes, sir. About the shipment.

"Go on." I encourage him.

"I'll take the responsibility of the shipment. We'll airdrop, but I assure you, we won't lose money. The shipment cost will be taken from the timber company we liquidated. So, if money is lost, it won't be directly from the company."

I'm impressed. "Excellent plan, Stefan. Go for it and email me when you're done."

"Sure, sir."

And I hang up, atleast now that's dealt with. My meeting with Leviels was useless. That guy could basically confuse me even more than I already was. It's been a long day, I should go home and take a shower. I glance at my wrist watch and it's about 9:30 pm already. I should head home.

I close my office room when I spot rays of light coming out of Lucas's room. He's still working? Does he have a car? Can he get home safely? There have been many animal attacks in the city at night, which actually are incidents when vampires hunt down humans. I shudder at the thought. I knock on his door.

"Come in." He insists, as I open the door and get in his room. I lean against the wall, gazing at him rummaging through some papers.

"Don't work further. It's 9:30" He looks up at me and nods. He puts the files in the drawer and closes the door behind me.

"Come with me, I'll drop you home." I offer as he scowls. God, why is this guy like this?

"But why—" He furrows his eyebrows and I signal him to stop by putting up my hand.

"This is not up for debate. I wasn't asking you. There have been animal attacks in the city at night." I stare at him, my tone firm. He shoots me a disapproving look but agrees.

Luke is already waiting with my Audi outside my office building. Lucas and I hop in the car as he explains his address to Luke. I am gazing out of the window, when I feel something droop on my shoulder.

When I turn to look at what it is, I see Lucas is resting his hand on my shoulder. He's fallen asleep. God, he looks like an Aphrodite.

After some time, Luke stops the car.

"Sleepy head, get up. We're here." I say, as he opens his eyes and prepares to leave the car. He opens the doors and hops out when he pokes his head back in.

"Thanks for the ride." He winks at me, as he walks to his house and closes the door behind him. Uh, this guy is unnerving.

I and Luke ride in silence as I finally reach home.
