4 Chapter 4

I give him a sterner look than I intend to, and his face falls, as he says, "um…sorry, I didn't mean to intrude."

I'm a monster. An abomination. If you knew who I am, you wouldn't have applied for a job here.

"It's okay. It's just red wine." I clarify. He eyes the glass suspiciously. Ofcourse, blood is way more thicker than wine. The irony is undeniably funny. Suddenly the sound of the door opening, pulls me back to reality. It's Natalie! What the fuck? Get out! Now!

"Sir, you have the meeting with Mr. Leviels in 15 minutes. Should I prepare the desk and the papers?"

"That wouldn't be needed." I snap. She gives me a what-do-you-mean look. I shake my head and reply, "I'm not done with Mr. Carter, here. Postpone the meeting with Leviels to 12 pm."

"But sir, I doubt if that can be—"

"That can be arranged. And if it's not being arranged, then get it arranged." My tone is clipped. She's annoying me. I'm not done with innocent Mr. Carter here. She finally leaves, leaving me and Lucas alone.

"Damian.. am I interupting something?" He peers to look at me as my eyes snap back to him.

"No. The meeting wasn't that important." I lie. Leviels was supposed to help me out with the Detroit shipment. He puts the empty coffee cup on the desk. Shit, he's leaving. Godfrey, engage him in some conversation! What are you, a teenager? My subconscious is glaring daggers at me.

"Would you like me to show you around?" I blurt out. He shoots me a questioning look.

"…Um, I mean to show you the office you'll work in?" That was a nice save. Holy crap.

"I'm sure you're preoccupied, Mr. Godfrey. Am I hired?" Lucas bites back!

"Yes, you are. And I can spare some time at the moment." I have my second office at the 50 the floor as so does Lucas.

We get out of the conference room and walk towards my private elevator. I enter the code 1850 as the double doors open and I and Lucas step in.

"So, you have a private elevator?" Damn, he's inquisitive.

"Perks of being a billionaire." I smirk.

"Do you like being rich?" He stares at me, his burning gaze penetrating deep enough and suddenly, I feel exposed. So very exposed. As if, he can see past the money, the pent house lifestyle, straight to my damaged soul. I dismiss the thought immediately.

I haven't cared for anyone for centuries and I feel like, digging my claws into this innocent guy's life is gonna do more harm than good. I sigh.

He obviously deserves better than you, you asshole. Let him go. My subconscious snarls at me. He coughs, drawing my attention. And I ask, "were you saying something?"

"I asked if you like being rich?"

"Show me someone who doesn't." I arch an eyebrow at him. He's so attractive, it's making me fidget. My office is vast, what if I spend some time alone with him? I've always got what I wanted.

What the fuck am I even thinking about? Have I taken leave of my senses? I shake my head. I press the number 50 on the button pad as the elevator goes up.

Keeping self control is going to be hard. His and my office are on the same floor. I remind myself. Jesus, what have I gotten myself into?

I try to distract myself, as I pull the phone out of my pocket and that's when I catch him ogling me. He's checking me out!

Holy shit, don't provoke me; else I'll fuck you here and I don't care what happens next.

The elevator pings as the doors reveal the 50th floor. Just in time, ah. I call Natalie.

"Natalie, Mr. Carter is here to see his office. Show him around." I hang up without waiting for an answer. I turn towards my office and that's when he calls me out, "I thought you were going to show me around." He sounds disappointed.

Oh no, baby. I'm just restraining myself from doing something which I may regret later.

"I recalled that I have some business that needs my utmost attention. Natalie's my primary PA, she'll show you around. Have a nice day, Lucas."

"Have a nice day too, Damian."

I walk towards my office. Damn, have I allowed any employee to call me by my first name?
