12 ch 6 ( immortal ) the black fang tribe

the next day , my head had a feeling as if somebody was taking a hammer and smashing my head with it .

that was a consequence of my mind teleportation. it would be like that for a couple of weeks . before it gets anymore confusing , I will explain it to you .

my book contained contracts or agreements with some very otherworldly beings . they are often kings or queens , that have agreed to help the wielder of this book , for a price of course .

the one I met called herself 'queen of a thousand realm. ' and she was an ant. in a way that could be considered correct because her spawn are in thousands of world's .

it would be more accurate calling her a trader . she supplied her spawn to people of many worlds , for the right price.

the book had fused into the throne and could not be removed right now . though I would have to remove it soon. it was fine , what I wanted was not the book anyways , it was a orb that was lying on top of it. that was the egg of the puppeteer ant queen .

naturally since it was in a egg form , I would have to begin feeding it also .

that was a matter , that we did not need now. the black fang tribe was going to attack after all .

putting the egg in a safe place , I went to thunder lord .who was in the council , obviously worried about something .

me - what happens thunderlord , you seemed to be worried about something.

he clearly wasn't expecting me , as he jumped up in surprise .

thunderlord - milord , I am worried about the slave traders .

me - you told me that they left didn't they , so what happened now .

thunderlord - milord , it is true that most of them left but the citizens are what I am most worried about . the slave trader has many supporters among the citizens . they could try and sabotage the ongoing military operations . we will need to establish military rule if we don't want any risk from the people .

me - establish it , what is the problem. I have no problem .

thunderlord - that is not the problem . the citizens are led by a young man , named phantom snow and he normally whips the people into a frenzy . I have a feeling that he won't be able to take it and will resist violently .

me - if he does anything then I will take care of him personally . prepare for war and I mean it seriously . take the first classes and keep the city in control . kill anyone that does not follow .

thunderlord - yes my lord .

me - good , inform me when it is time to war.

thunderlord - yes milord .

saying that he left the place leaving me with maps of the place . looking at it with chess pieces placed all over the map . the white pieces represented my troops , and the black represented the black fang tribe .

this would occupy my mind for the next couple of days . placing them on the battlefield , moving them from their position , making them strike , seeing them fall .

the enemy and our forces were nearly , but in every case the enemy would beat us . simply put , their army was more experienced , more crafty and more importantly , we are in their home ground . in a head on war , we would lose , in almost every case .

the walls and the few turrets we had could offer us some protection atleast .

well , we won't need to wait for long . once the ant queen began producing her eggs . we can beat the black fang tribe pretty easily .

the black fang tribe didn't really worry , but the next attacks we are going to face , will steadily become more and more powerful .

the enemy had no first classes but they had forty two second classes and six class three's along with a class four chief .

with our defences we can hold the fort without any significant damage . but what worried me was their totems . totems were prideful and egoistical beings .

they could bestow powers onto mortals , which are often not only weird but pretty dangerous .

( after a couple of days )

me - I don't know who you are , nor do I care enough to find out . but today I have to lead you . so don't disappoint me . after all the motto of your military is impressive 'death before cowardice ' . now I want to see how true are you to that motto .

all the soldiers around me - yes sir , yes .

me - then , get to your respective positions .

as soon as they heard that , the entire group in front of me collapsed as they took their respective position .

thankfully most of the legion had pretty decent long range ability . while we did have weapons like bows , ballistas and cannons . most of them were pretty resource intensive . while we did have plenty of resources . it would not be enough for the battle that we were going to face pretty soon . if we were to use it continuosly , then we would run out in a week.

as for me , I would be in the thick of things because after all . immortality does not give any viable long range abilities .

so me and a couple of the decent second grades would be entering enemy territory pretty soon . every army needs a decent scout

now that I think about it , it time to meet the soldiers I will be fighting with in the future . they would be most likely outside the walls planting the iron trees. these trees were a military commodity that the black wind empire provided to its military .

they could grow from cut of stumps and could grow almost anywhere . they were resistant to most large scale magic and were particularly resistant to magic . and once they are allowed to grow properly . well let's just say our present walls are made up of juvenile iron trees . nowhere near the size that they can reach .

lets hope they do get the chance to grow to that glory . after all it is my job to do so .

I found the soldiers I was looking for . they had noticed me and were.dropping the stakes they held in their hands ,. to salute their superior officer .

me - at ease , soldiers . announce your names to me first of all and then give me a detailed account of your magic and abilities .

phentim - my name is phentim , milord . my ability allows me to manipulate flames and my speciality is close combat .

phantom knife - milord , my name is phantom knife . I have a shadow manipulating ability and can move through shadows for a limited amount of time .

me - fine , prepare your bags by tomorrow. we will leave in the night. you are going demonstrate your abilities to me now .

I didnt leave them till the nights. while I am sure the two of them are planning on methods to kill me behind my back , I got the information I needed . it will save their life in the future after all .

( the next night . )

me - phentim have you got everything that we need .

phentim - yes commander , the resources have been packed .

phentim was pointing towards three bags . these bags which were introduced by the fifth emperor . they could be considered somewhat of military secret of the black wind empire , though to be honest , everybody had access to some form of this device . even the commoner are beginning to use it nowadays.

the bags were packed with food , medicine and other basic necessities such as tents , and other stuff

the bag had been modified with magic so it could hold a lot more stuff , though to be honest it did nothing about the weight . well these kids needed some crushing to that ego of theirs

well it won't take long , after all they are going to fight for real , no test ,no duels and no rules .

wearing the bag and calling the guys behind me . phantom knife dissolves into his shadows . phentim follows behind me quietly .

his ability was the opposite of the stealth , so he couldn't use it to boost his speed , and we went our way .

( after going quite the distance , we were resting in a cave at the top of a mountain. it was a short mountain , clear by the lack of ice around us , but it was still pretty chilly . )

me - phantom knife , from here on out you will be alone. I need you to confirm their movement and their patrolling routes and don't engage in combat , unless you want a early death .

phantom knife - I know commander , but if a lone target is present and there is not risk to myself , I should take it .

me - then you announce our presence to the army and we will lose the opportunity to deal an actual surprise attack .

these two soldiers in front of me were teenagers , fooled by those novels which were becoming so popular nowadays. phantom knife wanted to become a noble Assassin . that's why he was so obsessed with assassinating his enemy , almost unlogically .

phentim was more calm-headed , though I am sure he also had some ridiculous goal as phantom.

anyways phantom left , I hope with a bit less of a murderous tendency .

phentim - he is just a bit high spirited . he feels cooped up in the city . he will calm down in a couple of days .

me - I heard that you were something of a tactical genius . then tell me what should we do now .

I said pointing at the map on front of me . it showed our surroundings along with the mountain we were on.

phentim looked at the map and pointed out three almost negligible line that were drawn over it .

phentim - they are going to attack from these places aren't they .

I was sure I had begun smiling .

me - why do you think so .

phentim - these places are trails , containing plenty of valleys , watersources . enough for an army to rest . the trails are thin , so nobody would expect an army to move from here . but if they were to move in small groups , it will be quicker then moving through the mountains , especially if the enemy is experienced tribe members.

me - good , good . but I asked you what are we going to do .

phentim - we could attack the small groups that are moving over here , damaging the enemies army somewhat before the battlefield becomes the city

me - yes , that is a good thought , but remember , that we are not a one man army . we might know these three paths , but the enemy surely has many more paths to go through . our job is to intimidate them and delay them , not damage them nor kill them. we will be doing something much more fun . we are going to start a stampede ,little kid .
