Chapter 3

Tim hummed, as Rosa moved around him, in a dancing type motion, grabbing the different ingredients she'd need for the sauce. She and Tim had met, when they were teenagers, at one of his friend's parties. Her friends had dragged her along so she wouldn't be stuck at home the whole weekend, and to get her to finally hook up with her crush, one of the basketball players. When she got the party, she stayed with her friends, or she hid in a corner. She didn't want to be there, and when she was about to leave, she had bumped into Tim. He had been leaving himself, claiming that he forgot something.

They both had left at the same time, so they talked while they walked home. She found out that he had just used an excuse so he could leave, because the party had started to get out of hand. Rosa had agreed with him about that and smiled to herself, admitting to him that her friends had dragged her there. This made him chuckle, agreeing that she didn't look like the type to party. That day had changed both of their lives.

"Foods ready!" Rosa called, as she added the last bit of seasoning to the spaghetti and garlic bread.

Josie followed Jonathan out, and sat next to him at the table, holding onto Mariam. Rosa chuckled, as she put the garlic bread on a plate, so that it would fit on the table. Tim finished putting the plates and silverware on the table, and put the pot of spaghetti on the table, so that they wouldn't have to get up as often to get it. They all waited for everyone to sit down, before praying.

"Thank you for the meal we've created, with the ingredients you've allowed us to have, and thank you for this family that we treasure. Amen." Rosa said smiling as she opened her eyes, finishing the prayer.

Jonathan imediatly grabbed a garlic bread, and got a large scoop of the spaghetti.

"Your not hungry are you?" Tim joked, putting some on his plate.

Jonathan nodded, making Rosa and Josie giggle. Rosa got Josie some and then got herself some, before she started eating.

"So, Josie, what your life like before you had to go to the orphange?" Jonathan asked, making Rosa and Tim, almost, choke on their food.

"J-John!" Tim said, giving him a surprised look.

"No its fine." She said.

"Are you sure, Sweetie?" Rosa asked, giver her an awed look.

"Yeah," She said, smiling sadly.

"Papa was always really happy whenever me or momma entered the room. He called me his sunshine," She giggled at the memory. "Him and momma were really nice to me, and we were on our way to see grandma and grandpa, but then something happened and," She looked down her smile turning into that of a sad expression. "The ground turned red."

"Oh my," Rosa looked at her husband, then back at Josie. "Did they?"

Josie nodded, quietly.

"Well, we're gonna do whatever we can to make you feel at home here, okay Josie?" Tim said, and Josie nodded, before looking back up, her smile back on her face.

Everyone went back to eating, this time in silence while they thought about what Josie had went through. After everyone had eaten, they all worked together to put the food away, clean the table, and do the dishes. Josie was putting the food into a container, when she spilled some food onto her doll's dress.

"Oh no, her dress!" Josie said, looking at Mariam's dress. "Momma made her that."

"That'll come out easy, do you want me to sew her an outfit to wear until i can clean that?" Rosa asked, looking at the doll's dress.

"Can you?'

Rosa nodded, smiling. "Of course I can. I'll just need to borrow Mariam for a bit. Are you okay with that?"

Josie thought for a moment, before nodding happily. "Can I choose the colors?"

"Of course you can," Rosa smiled. "We'll get some fabrics tomorrow okay?"

Josie smiled. "Okay. Mariam would be happy to have a second outfit."

After everything was out away, and the dishes were done, they all went into the living room to watch a movie. The boys wanted to watch a horror movie, while the girls wanted to watch something that wasn't horror. In the end they decided on a movie that had a little bit of horror for the boys, but not to much to scare Josie into not being able to sleep that night.

Not even halfway through the movie, and they all jumped, to the sound of glass breaking in the kitchen. Tim and Jonathan got up, and went into the kitchen, Rosa and Josie right behind them. On the counter, was a plate with spaghetti and a piece of garlic bread. When they looked on the ground, there was the remains of a glass mug, Jonathan had given his dad for his birthday.

"How did this get here?" Tim muttered, grabbing the broom, starting to clean up the glass so that no one would step on it.

"Looks like someone wanted some to." Rosa said, chuckling nervously.

"Holy-" Jonathan started, but was cut off by the phone ringing.

Rosa put Josie down and walked over, picking it up. "Hello?"

Nobody responded on the other line, and then the phone hung up. "Wrong number then."

Rosa walked back to the kitchen and saw that all the glass had been put away, and Tim was putting it away, as the kids went back to the movie. "That was, something."

"Your telling me, I swear we put everything away." Tim said, looking at her.

"We did. Maybe one of the kids got the food and forgot about it." Rosa shrugged.

"How'd the glass break then?"

"It's an old house. It probably moved and fell out of the cupboard."

Tim nodded, finished putting everything away and went back to the living room with his wife, sitting back on the couch and finishing the movie, falling asleep just before the credits.
