5 Chapter 5
Both the Duke and Evelyn were waking up late in the office, when Evelyn's hand began to hurt. When the Duke saw this, he approached her and said, "you may stop for now, will continue this tomorrow"
"its ok sir, ill finish it" Evelyn replied,
"no, sleep comes first, its late, go rest in the couch" said the Duke,
"but.. Sir" replied Evelyn
"no buts.. go to sleep," Evelyn says.
"Please, my Lord, I'll finish as soon as possible before the festival," she says before passing out.
Looking at her, Matthew runs up to her and grabs her, saying, "Please get me a doctor as soon as possible." When the doctor arrived, he examined her and informed her that she had lost consciousness due to overwork and advised her not to overwork and to rest.
The Duke rubs her head and asks, "Why do you want to work so hard?" He raises her and places her in his bed. Matthew looked at Evelyn while she was sleeping and noticed her hair was covering her face. He raises his hand, brushes her hair away from her eyes, covers her with a blanket, and walks to his bed.
She awoke in the middle of the night and checked to see if she was still in the room, and she sees the Duke sleeping holding her hand while kneeling under the bed, and she looks at him. She gets up and puts him in bed, his look, physique, and face glittering as she looks at him.
"Good night, Duke," Evelyn says as she walks to the couch and returns to sleep.
The Duke awoke from his sleep as the sun rose and saw her sleeping on the couch. He approaches her and notices that she is sleeping.
When he sees her, he notices her sleeping face, which he thinks is very cute. Evelyn awakens from her slumber as he takes a good look at her.
"my lord." Said Evelyn who got terrified when she opened her eyes and the Duke was standing next to her.
"Relax," Matthew said as he took a step back.
There is an awkward silence as both of them look at each other.
"How are you feeling?" asked the Duke."
"I'm fine, thanks to you, my lord. I'll repay your generosity "Evelyn stated
"That's good to hear," Matthew said awkwardly.
Please rest, it's the doctor's orders that you don't work until you're better, I'm giving you a two-day leave and I want you back as healthy as ever, don't pass up this opportunity"
"yes, my lord," Evelyn said quietly.
"Good," Duke said smiling
Suddenly Matthew kiss her forehead Unnoticedly and steps back.
Evelyn gets shocked , and the Duke, who is also shocked and unsure what to do, flees the room in a hurry.
Evelyn, now in the room, blushes and recalls how the Duke kissed her before rolling onto the bed.
She and the Duke were working on the new expenses for the upcoming festival a few days after her recovery. They couldn't get that memory out of their heads and didn't speak to each other, which distracted the employees. The duke noticed her working and not looking at him because she was so focused and looked as thin as a pencil. He tries to distract her, but she doesn't pay attention, so he chokes and begins accidentally losses control. Evelyn rushes over to him, hands him water, and pats him on the back.
"Sir, if you're sick, why don't you go to the doctor if you're still coughing? Is there anything else the Duke wants me to do? , I'll make sure to work on it, but please go and rest." She said it with a friendly smile.
"Sit," Matthew said looking at her.
"Pardon," she said, surprised.
"I said sit down," the Duke said.
All of the lords in the room were aware of this. They were all taken aback when they saw the duke be respectful to a low noble.
While she was still suspicious, Matthew leaned in close and softly said, "Are you ok?" "Are you feeling ill? You have only recently recovered, so avoid stress by sitting and restingand take some breaks.You are constantly concentrating, which is bad for your health; take a break."
The ambiguous tone caused her to blush in front of everyone. Despite the fact that he said it softly and those people would not have heard it, they were wondering why was he caring that she was unwell. She wished she could hurl the minutes on her hand at this man.
The duke, whom many men once feared, is now consensual with her, and she blushes for a moment. "I appreciate your consideration, sir." Then she graciously sat in front of a gathering of managers.
For a brief moment, she had the impression that all eyes were fixed on her, as if she were some Villainess.
She was aware that the lords would accuse her of speaking to a noble because she is a former commoner who is unfamiliar with the ethics of being a noble. People would think the Morrison family were fools to let a commoner be a lady of the duke if they suspected she was having an affair with the duke.
After his father, Sir Matthew is the most respected man in London. He was determined to restore the Morrison family's glory, and he placed great emphasis on his academic ability. He had studied hard his entire life, and even if he wanted to be successful, he could only be a great student, which may be hopeless. Unfortunately, Matthew's grandfather, Lord Canterbury, was a difficult man to deal with. He paid a large sum to allow his daughter to marry into the Morrison family, but the most valuable assets would be land deeds and shops. Those were still in the possession of the Canterbury family. Nobody in the Morrisson Family could move a cent as long as Canterbury moved a finger.
Lady Canterbury knew her husband was not on the same page as her, so before she died, she gave those important contracts, seals, keys, and other important things to the Canterbury family's loyal manager, and asked the manager to hand over power to her son after he grew up, but she also left some gold and silver to the family.
