1 1. The Beginning

|| Cindy Quinn ||

I rode in a whirring sound of a bus. Sitting at the corner of a bus--with facepalming. I was thinking of how I could find a job.

And until now, I'm still looking for a job. But unfortunately, my whole day doesn't give me luck. That's why I just decided to go back to my home now without good news for Dwayne.

I had no other work since the Coffee Shop that I worked on last month had already been closed, because it was bankrupted and until it falls from a height. So I had no choice but to find a new job. I already tried to search in newspapers but I didn't find one. I tried also my self to apply for any open jobs within Manila, but I couldn't. I don't know why, as far as I know, that there's no amiss about my resume, or I can say about me. And still, they didn't call me to hire.

Still looking outside on the window bus, I also mind if how can I raised alone my sister--Dwayne for her studies. I am two years older than her. She's 4th year in college and soon to graduate.

I heard a loud cough on my left side. I suddenly paused as I seat erect try to look at it. I saw an old man guy wearing a hat in his head, a zoot suit jacket-and black suit pants. I noticed his bearded hairlike, medium wrinkled tanned skin, and standing with a cane on his left hand, something I noticed that he's maybe seeking for a seat.

"Umm..excuse me, sir. You can seat here." I said and I pointed out the available seat beside me.

He tilted his head and looked first in a seat beside me. I helped him to have him a seat.

"Oh, Thank you." He said with a wrinkled smile on his lips.

"Your welcome sir," I replied. And I gave him also a soothed smile.

I diverted my eyes on him to look out again outside the window bus.

"I'm glad that I met a good-hearted girl like you..."

Is he talking about me?

I gave him again a look and I found that I'm the one he's pointing out, as I saw him looking at me with a smile across his face.

I just softly laughed instead of replying he said.

"Am I right, right?". He said questioningly and once his left eyebrow rose.

"As you said sir," I said smiling.

I noticed him both hands placed themselves in a curved handle of his cane, and I saw he peeked at me, where I'm just watching him doing.

"So, where you go then, now?"

I sit well first before I spoke. "Home?"

He nods in his response. "Where have you been?" He added.

"I'm seeking for a job, Mr..."

"Just call me. Mr. Wil." He continued. I saw him chuckles as he paused for a moment. "Really? What a coincidence. By the way, I'm also seeking a new maid. Wanna apply for it?"

What a lucky day. I hoped I can't ever find one but this old man now is giving me a chance and he's a blessing of heaven for me for offering me a job. I widely smiled for a second.

But, should I trust him? Why if he's just using decency to believe me and to get his bad intention to me?

I scanned him first and it's sure that he just not an ordinary man, I think he is a rich man.

"Don't worry. I don't have a bad intention. But, if you don't take it then I understand. Well, a beautiful girl like you are not suitable for this job. I hopefully offer some available job for you but the first one I said was only available.." He said, diverting his eyes and he pursed his lips. I felt glad about him said.

Crap! Should I believe him?

I placed first my right hand underneath my chin, thinking about him said. I know there's nothing can lose on me if I accept his offer.

But, if I said I don't want? Then how about Dwayne? And to think a month we also have not been paid for our rented apartment.

I looped back to look beside me where that old man sitting there. I inhaled first before I speak. "Sure sir. Can I?"

His brows raised and I saw a glint of delight across in his face as he heard I said. I just watched him doing while he's taking something inside the pocket of his suit pants. As he took in, I notice he extended his hands to me, makes me look at it as he was holding something in it.

"Get this calling card. Just call me if you're willing. Okay?" He said. And the bus stopped for a while.

"By the way, I have to go. I hope you'll immediately call me. See you again!"

Before he gets outside the bus, I remember that he didn't know my name so I immediately spoke to him.

"By the way, I'm Cindy Quinn sir! nice meeting you! Thank you for your offer!" I exclaimed with a wide smile. I don't care if there are many eyes in my surroundings staring at me as I almost shouted it to Mr. Wil in front of me. And responds with a smile on me.

I feel so happy today about it. I should have to go back immediately to my house so that I can immediately say it to Dwayne.

I helped him to stand up until he finally steps out of the bus, then the bus runs.

I instantly peeked on that card he'd given to me and I saw the important details written on it. Especially, the name of that old man is Watson Williams and his calling number.

Suddenly, something is popping into my head. As I know that I heard already that surname--and it's something familiar to me.

I shrugged. I just don't mind it for now if where I heard about it. I can't remember also if what time or what place did I met and found about this. Maybe I was in deep lost thought, thinking about my new job. I can't explain my happiness about this!

I keep the card right away as I noticed the bus that I've ridden was finally reached my destination. I stood up and hastily get outside.

I tried to run fast towards my apartment, as I can't even wait to tell it to Dwayne.

I climbed up the stairs reaching the fifth floor which is my apartment is there.

As I reached it, I let out a deep sighed hoping that Dwayne is already here. I knocked at the door and I saw Dwayne opened me a door.

"Sis! You here!" She said happily as she entranced me and pushed me into her arms to hugged me.

"Can I get in first?"

I feel I can't breathe now because of her tight hug. She steps away from me as I entered my apartment.
