14 Real Magic

"What about Matty, Master?"

"Lily, we should go before that little traitor comes, or he will tell…"

"Tell who, Master?" that was the voice of the smart-ass assistant that dared to take my chance of coming to this town without that much of a trouble. If I were to come here before, then there won't be a bearded Mr. Durian sacking my hard-earned gold, there won't be a Madame Tate trying to imprison me in a room and there won't be a sweet Jena trying to hit my butt.

Even more, what about that merchant, Sebastian, eating my coins and those two little squirrels too.

However, what I resent more is the time, the moments. I should teach him that opportunities are difficult to come for sweet innocent maidens like me that only had desires for a brief rendezvous with a lovely handsome man. Is that too much to ask? Even if it were just a passing moment… nothing else.

Sigh… the many memories I could have done with my handsome Kian… maybe an elegant dinner with a candlelight, a sweet long kiss, and then a bit of a flirting waltz sigh… this squirrel with constipated face took all that from me.

Now I will have to wait for the handsome man to stop what he was doing with his elegant clothes and numbers and notes. I think I was at the end of the line even after those elegant and mighty knights that were evidently under his control. Who is him? What does he do for a living? Who cares! Gosh… he is my barman Kian. Not more.

"Master, are you trying to escape?"

I heard the little squirrel walking slowly towards me. He may have thought that I would be scared, but I won't. I had battled thousands of bullies and there hadn't been a day that I hadn't won, even if some scars had plagued my body and some tears. This little boy only knows me for a few months and thinks he can overpower me.

"No," I said as I turned around that little traitor. "You can go on with your life, Matty traitor."

"You are being childish, Master," he sighed as he took out a little pouch with golden coins.

"What… what is that?"

"Golden coins, Master," he smiled as he kept shaking the little sac. I felt as if I was being lured like some kind of genie that was being called by his Master with a rub on a lamp.

"Why do you have so many?"

"I had been helping Master Tate in the tavern downstairs, Master."

"Oh… those are… you…" he kept moving the golds making that sweet tone I know very well. If I were as shameless as the worst master, I would start scheming a plot to take those coins.

I can't let him buy my freedom with that material temptation of this temporary world. Not now when my power is at the corner and at the tip of my fingers.

"Master, are you going out?"

He is smiling, "tch… I am."

Then as the last part of the scene, from the door, a voice came shouting.

"Miss Jane, the revolt has started, please don't be afraid and stay inside the room, we are guarding it very carefully."

Now the screams and the shouts of people running in fear were converting the peace into chaos. I looked through the window and the streets now didn't have civilian souls but soldiers and knights.

"Prepare your swords!"

"Guard the entrance!"

"No one is passing out tonight!"

The souls of the soldiers were screaming with a fierce pumping of war and battle. I should be scared, but that won't happen, not to me, not when this was the moment my soul was expecting. The soldiers were waiting for war, I was waiting for magic.

"I will go out boys, stay here."

"Master," Lily's eyes were really filled with fear this time. "Please don't go, it is not safe."

"She is right, Master," Tommy took the other side of my leg.

They were using their bodies to trap me and not letting me move from the room. However, that won't happen.

"I am sorry… I…"

"We will go with you," the assistant Matty looked at me with resolution in his face, "we are safer with you, and we can help you too."

"No, and that is final."

"But…"

"You are weak and hadn't grasped even the beginner level of my lessons."

The three kids stood stunned with their big eyes widened in surprise. They should as it was the first time my stern voice came into the show. Though I was not creating a cheating move, nor a spectacle, but it was the true words of my mind. They are not even near what I can call a helpful hand but a liability.

"You stay here," I looked at Lily that was about to cry and Tommy that was about to cry, and Matty that was about to cry too. What a group. "Don't make a sound if anyone tries to enter the room, not a sound, nor a move, nor a breath. Do you hear me? I will set a barrier."

"No!"

Matty… sigh, the obstinate and tough little boy retorted with teary eyes.

"We will go with you… and you can put the barrier around us in the forest… I will not let you leave my sight!"

That… what can I do against that?

I heard some shouts from the knight guard and the sound of some explosions and sword clashes. I guess the battle had begun and there was no other choice.

"Let's go," I said, and the three smiled triumphantly. These little squirrels will be the death of me.

I passed each one a candy… not any candy, but an elián candy. They will feel funny eating it, mostly a strange light sensation in their bodies as they transformed into real squirrels. Hahaha… this is way is faster, right?

"Don't worry, boys," I smiled as they climbed to my bag and shoulder. "When we get there I will turn you back."

Matty climbed to my shoulder as the two other squirrels entered my bag.

"Now, it is time for the main show. This is real magic!"

I sent magic dust to the ground, and we disappeared from the room.
