18 Pain

"This hurts…" I was almost weeping from the pain in my leg and my ribs, and everywhere in my fragile body.

It turned out that Sebastian's rope was not enough too, and I had to climb down on my own. My legs and hands were not used to grab dirt and rocks, only screws and hammers. Sometimes, wine jars and beer mugs, and many, oh so many times, golden coins.

Those delicate hands of Jane, couldn't hold my body, and so I fell a few meters to the unknown ground, rocks and pain awaited me, I knew it, but still, I had to jump. It was not that far, the mist was turning to the right a few meters on the ground, yet, the fall will certainly give me a hard time.

My leg broke again, a second time this day, and some of my ribs were hurting too. Fortunately, my wonderful magic cape cushioned a bit of the impact and I didn't hit my skull. However, the pain increasing on my body told me that I won't last long.

Now, if I don't find those damn power stones faster, that fate bitch will find two paths for my end, to be captured and tortured in the hands of that Dark Duke and his knights, or to be killed without mercy from either the arrows or the injuries.

"Come on Jane," I whispered to give strength to this body's will, "Just a bit more… then you will have everything. I promise."

I struggled in the ground. I couldn't get up, so I struggled and crawled and pushed my body with my hands and arms towards the blue mist.

I felt it as if I could feel my heart pulsating with anxiety and fear. I wanted to call my magic so much, to make it come to me again and into my veins, but it was not answering me. I was too far from it.

"Stay where you are!"

The voice of the masked man again called me, but it was still far enough for it to reach me. However, I knew that he will come for me if I don't go faster, the steps of his boots echoing in the darkness were making me nervous.

With my fingers, my nails, and my good leg, I crawled again, and even with the sweat from my forehead dropping and covering my eyes, I moved.

The steps of the man kept moving faster, almost reaching the end of the pit, to me, but I didn't stop my weak attempts of dragging my body.

The blue mist was almost there at a single touch of my hand, just a little more…

"Ah!"

I screamed when my broken leg hit some rock, the pain came so hard to my senses that I vomited blood.

"Stop right there," I heard the man stepping towards me slowly, "don't move anymore."

Why is he not shooting his arrows if he wants to stop me then? Why is he lowering his voice as if he was gently calling me?

Who cares!

There is no time for this, I was tired, I couldn't see and the blood from my body coming out from the injuries was making my consciousness fade from the pain.

Then, as a light of goodwill from that bitch Fate, a trace of blue mist came to my sight. It was bright, and just as my finger was about to touch the stone, the freaking man chose to pull my cape, just a bit to uncover my broken leg.

"Ah!"

"Don't move anymore, you are hurt!"

His tone was filled with anxiousness, is he worried that I will escape his torture?

"I don't care," I muttered and just the moment I heard him lower his body to carry me, I touched the stone.

Finally, finally. From my hand and to the rest of my body, the blue mist covered every single cell of me. I felt so relieved, so strong again.

"Hey, what is happening?"

His words were full of awe, right, that is the feeling. Feel amazed, little mortal, this is true magic!

"Auch!" I spoke before time, the magic was healing my body, but I forgot that pain came from healing too. To be alive is to feel pain.

The bones rejoining, the bones purifying, the bones correcting, then the nerves and the intestines, the heart, the stomach, and the muscles. Everything was going to a healed state, now… the last part, the skin. No more marks nor scars, no more signs of sadness and torture for the poor little Jane.

I felt like puking from the pain again. Some blood came running from my throat and my ears and my nose.

"What is happening?"

The man touched me and opened my clothes when the cracking sounds of my bones readjusting were as mortifying as when they were breaking. However, I was already in a pool of blood, sweat, and some liquid pouring from my cells.

"Don't touch me!" I screamed when I felt his fingers coming near to my blood, "It is poisonous! My blood is poison!"

This degree of impureness coming out from my veins can harm any human's body without a cure, so I don't need to see someone dying because of me. Not even this man that I didn't know about.

"Don't come here… ah!"

I can feel it, the pure magic, my power entering deeper into my mind, enwrapping my soul. However, it came as a punch to my lungs taking the air out of me, as if I were asphyxiating. I had forgotten how much painful it was.

Just then I saw a light, a white light in my mind… that was the sign of my powers coming back and the memories… wait, which memories?

From the day I died and backward, I saw everything pass through my mind and deeper, my childhood, my parents, my other parents, and the last ones before them. The orphanage told me to call them 'parents' and so I did, though, they hardly fitted the description of the job.

Then as a sudden wave, soft, drowning me into tranquil water, the face of Jane appeared in my eyes. However, no… she was not Jane, she looked like Jane, but her hair was black, and her eyes were blue. She was not Jane but her mother.

The man on her side taking the baby from her hands was handsome with white black hair and green sparkly eyes. They were her parents, I knew it, but they looked so sad.

The baby, Jane, was not going to survive this world.

How can I know this?
