2 A Magic Trick

"Come faster, come closer, this lady is one of a kind wonder, you will be astonished when you discover the tricks she had undercover."

The town of Eisen was a beautiful place on the south of Weitros, the Capital of Rillian. A simple town with simple people with simple lives. Not much to do in this place but to buy bread and milk, to go to the camps and work at day; and when the night salutes you from afar and the moon guides you to your home and bed, you can choose either to sleep comfy in the arms of your beloved or to invite the moon to the tavern for a drink and to sing songs with the drunkards, your new friends.

Then, if you are lucky enough, you will have the opportunity to cheat them out of their money with simple tricks, just some flick of the hand to disappear coins, or a guess on a card or the number on their mind. Nothing difficult, they just need to drive their eyes to the wonder in front of them, the magician.

Just look at the amazing fools around waiting to be cheated by the magic of my awesome hands. These delicate hands of a young girl of barely sixteen years old, though, I could barely call myself that. Not that I am calling myself old enough to be anyone's grandma, but at least old enough to make anyone believe in my skill.

"Are you paying attention?"

"Yes!"

They shouted with glasses of beer in their hands. Some of them were even laughing.

"Then… remember, never believe easily the words of those tricksters magicians you see in the streets because… only the good ones are here!"

"Yes!"

"Where the beer and dance and laugh are the best deceptions we have. Cheers!"

"Cheers!"

Then again I made the coin disappear, the Queen of hearts vanish and the number in the thought of one man pop up in the tattoo of another man. That… that was real magic. They will laugh and scream and try to see if it is real or not.

Then just when they try to discover how that kind of magic is possible. How can the woman in simple blue clothes with a great voice, beautiful green eyes, and bright brown hair is able to create such an illusion? Just then, they will forget that the coins in their pockets had all disappeared and the woman had vanished without them noticing.

What can I say, I needed money to survive. I just arrived in this world. "This will be enough, right?"

I loved how the jingle of the coins escorted me through the streets with my new appearance; a black robe, a green dress, and blond hair, my feet guided me to an alley not far from 'The Rotten Gentleman' tavern. What a crazy name, just right to reveal some of my skills.

Who will believe some drunken men when they tell anyone that they just met the greatest magician of all time? Me, of course, the exceptional, splendid, otherworldly Eli Viel, now in the portraying of Jane. The poor innocent Jane.

Well, my friends, this is how I will start my life in this world. Though, I need something useful to continue my path. Money, lots of it, and magic, lots of magic. The two elixirs of my life.

For the first one, I had already tricked some drunkards in the taverns… hope they are not that angry, or the next time it will be much more difficult. Then for the second one, tch… I am empty, only simple cheap tricks will do, and a bit of a push from a magic plant… not telling which one, a magician's rule.

Kidding, it is the elián flower. Look for it if you are talented enough to find it. Just like I am.

Then, when you are ready, your clothes, your story, your breath, and the smile on your face seem perfect. The next step is to start by creating a point of view, yes, they have to see you, they have to pay attention to you and when their eyes are narrowed to only you and nothing else, there is where the magic begins.

Almost half of the success of the act is in those few seconds when they have you in their sight. Then the next step is an introduction and a story. Something like, 'Hello drunkards, the filth of society! Please don't kick me out from here because I am the same as you! Cheers!'

They will laugh, they will sympathize with you because you already empathize with them. Now for the storytelling, that is the tricky part, what do you want to do with them? To make them believe you can do something, or that you can't and that they will have control over anything?

Though they won't and they will never have.

What is next, oh right, explain the trick and find volunteers. The naive ones with simple minds. However, in my case, it was always easy, just a 'Look into my eyes,' and their minds are mine to possess, at least for a few seconds. Then the simplest part… Magic. Or what they believe is magic.

Some will try to see if I am cheating, and yes, I will be cheating, but that is why it is entertaining, right?

My practice of magic began so many years ago that it is useless to start explaining. I don't want to, and I don't have the time, as those powers are something I will die to have now. My body is empty. Jane's body is empty and without an inch of magical power. Though, my soul still can feel it, hidden, deeper… so deep that it is difficult not to cry. Not that I contained myself, I did cry and shout to the moon, "Dammit!"

That day, when I arrived at the land of the livings for a second time, I left that filthy place where they seemed to like whipping and torturing people. Especially little girls with long white hair and red eyes.

However, the goddess of good fortune never smiles for everyone equally, at least not for those three. A crazy magician with a deep rage in her heart just descended into this land, living and dancing, and cheating and crying for the lack of powers, but still here.

Now the ones about to pass through the curtain of the living world and start a journey to hell, are hanging from their legs in a little room of their shop. I left that place with a very satisfied face, though I had to walk a bit further to get into the next town.

Well, bad for them as the place they did their evil deeds. If they are lucky, someone will find them, if not… Farewell, my friends. Sigh… I had so much fun, their little pleadings and cries will accompany my adventure in this world.

I didn't even know where I was at that time, but I left. I didn't need to stay there any longer. It was unworthy, for me, and for Jane.

"Trap that witch!"

Ups, the drunkards noticed.
