6 Chapter 5: Rebirth (2)

Jalim had been in his new world for 2 years. He was still surprised about what was going on and could not help but question his reality ever now and then.

This was a world, unlike anything he had experienced before. There were magic and ki used to do things that would require advanced levels of technology yet the world had very limited tools they would use that for.

A perfect example was what his mother was doing at the moment. She was carrying baby Jalim, now named Nathan, on her baby carrier. She was a housewife and former adventurer while her husband was a soldier of the kingdom in times of war and a hunter in times of peace.

Natalie, Nathan's mother, was currently using several magic spells to clean their family's laundry. She would rinse them with a water spell, spin them to clean them with a wind spell, and then dry them with a fire spell.

But with each use of magic like that, Nathan was disappointed. It seemed that magic was a very useful tool and that using it for such mundane acts as a waste. Even though he knew that the spells were doing exactly what they were meant for and being properly used, he still could not help but feel that it was not being used to their full potential.

This is because of what he saw the year prior. The village was under attack by over 20 bandits. All of the men had gathered at the gates to prepare for a fight but they were helplessly out armed. Besides Phil, Nathan's father, and 4 other men, most men did not even have a proper weapon and only had farming tools.

But when Natalie arrived on the scene with Nathan on her back, most of the villagers let out a sigh of relief. The woman cast a spell around herself as she walked up the stairs of the village walls to see the bandits that tried to invade them.

As soon as they saw her, the bandits were stunned by her beauty and tried to throw ropes to drag her off the walls so they could have their way with her. But when the ropes were about the reach her, the barrier came to life and knocked them away.

That is when they noticed that she was a mage. The men no longer had lewd looks on their faces but instead, fear. They did not expect a mage to live in this little town. Most tried to run away while a few fired arrows in hopes of piercing the barrier.

Natalie just showed a small smile on her face as she watched all this happen.

"I thought you were going to drag me down and rape me? What happened to that plan? Why are you running away now?"

When no one answered her, her small smile turned into a frown as she raised one of her hands. It seemed that nothing was happening but soon, 4 head-sized fireballs appeared around her.

She shot the fireballs into the group of bandits with each fireball killing off 3 or 4 of the bandits and wounding others who were close. When the flames and dust cleared, all a person could see were the dead, smoldering bodies of most of the bandits while the ones who were alive were begging for mercy or crying out in pain.

But Natalie did not care about their pleas. She kept her hand raised before it shot out 10 arrows made of light blue energy that pierced the hearts or heads of the remaining bandits.

Seeing all the bandits dead, the woman walked down from the wall before walking away from the crowd. When her fellow villagers asked her what she was doing, she replied

"Nathan needs to take his nap soon or he will be up all night. Please excuse me," she said with a small smile before walking back to her home with Phil following behind her.

The same woman who had ruthlessly and effortlessly killed 20 bandits was cleaning her family's laundry while humming a happy song with her son. When she looked down at Nathan, she noticed that he was looking at her dazed with his silver eyes. A bright smile appeared on her face.

"Oh! Is my little darling dazed by mommy's beautiful voice? Would you like mommy to sing a real song and not just hum? Huh, baby? Huh?"

And his image of the valiant mage was shattered just like that. His eyes were no longer dazed and he made a hum of agreement. Although he was not dazed and immersed in her voice, he would be lying if he said that he did not enjoy listening to her sing.

Hearing him agree, Natalie had an even larger smile on her face. She took him out of the carrier before twirling around and spinning Nathan in her arms.

"Aww. My little Nate loves his mommy's voice but is too shy to say it. Come on, my little baby. Say it for mommy. Wait, there is no need. Mommy knows how much you love her voice so I will sing for you for the rest of the day."

And so Natalie sang every song she could think of while enjoying her day with her son. Although he did not show it when she was looking, when he fell asleep after being awake too long, Natalie could see the small smile on her son's face from her singing.

She felt even happier knowing her son was smiling and softly put him into his bed before she started to cook dinner.
