First magic class

The next morning Jake woke up feeling very refreshed. He couldn't wait for his very first class in learning magic to begin. Something he hadn't dared of even dreaming was now really happening to him.

He knew being a mage was really amazing. They could learn all kinds of cool spells and many more other things. That's why he couldn't wait for class to start.

Jake washed himself and looked in the mirror. Seeing himself with short jet black hair and a not handsome neither ugly face. Still, he already had some muscles on his body from helping his father with the farm every day.

Being about 1,60 meters in height he was neither too tall or too short, but he was still growing a lot so he knew that he would grow way taller in the future.

He hoped that in time he could date a good-looking girl, perhaps even a mage like him. After checking himself once more and seeing he looked okay he put on clothes and exited the dorm-room. After leaving his room he saw many more kids his age smiling brightly as all of them were going to their first class.

Still Jake didn't pay them much attention and after leaving the dorm building he started to walk towards the building he needed to go. Yesterday he received a map detailing all the buildings on the campus of the magic school.

Most of the buildings he wasn't allowed access to, like the buildings for older students, faculty buildings and buildings like the library. Only after he started to learn about magic and grow older he would gain access to more buildings.

Using the map he quickly made his way towards the building he would be in and without wait walked towards the classroom for E-rank students.

Walking through the buildings he saw even more kids his age, only now he could see they all looked more refine and some looked at him smugly.

Jake knew these people were of a better standing and naturally, he assumed they looked down on him. He didn't bother a lot with them though, but still, he vowed to himself that in time he would wipe those smug looks on their faces.

He also saw different student badges on different kids. Ranging from E, like him, all the way to S. Every higher rank badge looked better than the lower-ranked ones. This was the only way to differentiate different ranks for now as the clothes everyone wore were all the same.

The uniforms were quite normal, with grey and black shirt for both boys and girls and pants for boys while girls wore a skirt.

Jake knew these were only the first uniform they would receive and in later years they would become better and fancier.

After walking through the building for a bit trying to remember the outlay he arrived in his class. E-3.

Entering the room he saw other kids like his sitting at their desks. Some were talking with each other but most kids just held to themselves as nobody really knew anyone in the room.

Jake looked at the seating charts and went to his designed seat. The classroom was divided into two rows of two desks next to each other. With a total of 5 behind each other totaling 20 desks and thus 20 students.

This would be his class for the first months and looking at the somewhat fatter boy sitting at a desk, he knew this would be the guy he would sit next to for some time.

He walked up to him and greeted him politely.

"Hi, I'm Jake nice to meet you."

The somewhat fatter guy looked up to him and immediately stood up shaking his hand.

"Hi hi nice to meet you, Jake, I'm Paul, I'll be your desk buddy from now on."

Jake immediately realized this guy wasn't a shy one and he sat down next to him.

"So excited about learning magic? I sure am." Paul said to Jake.

"Of course who would've known this would happen."

"Right, I never guessed someone like me was able to learn magic."

Jake immediately hit it off with Paul and they started to chat some more until a bit older looking a man entered the room. Everyone realized who this was and the classroom went quiet. Every kid in the room looking at the man with shining eyes.

"I'm Lucas, I'll be your magic teacher until the specialty test in two months. I'll explain more about that at a later date. For now, we'll begin with the beginning. How about everyone introduces themselves first and then we'll start with the first lesson."

Then every kid in the class started to introduce themselves. Jake paid attention so he would remember everyone's name, but nobody really interested him until a cute voice spoke up.

"Hi I'm Anna, nice to meet you all."

Jake hadn't seen her when he entered but now he looked at her he found her very cute. Short black hair a cute face and a seemingly petite figure.

Jake immediately formed an interest in her as he continued listening to the introductions.

Paul upon seeing Jake glance in Anna's direction multiple times smiled softly and whispered to Jake.

"Seems like Jakey has already formed an interest in a classmate."

Jake just scoffed him away. Still, he enjoyed that he and Paul were already on familiar terms. He knew it was good to have a friend.

Then after a bit, the introductions finally finished and Lucas took over once more.

"Then now let me start the class. You all do already know that from this day on you'll be training to become a mage. But before we begin you all need to understand why only you and your classmates can become a mage and not a lot of other people."

Jake started listening vigorously to what his teacher had to say.

"Mana. This is the beginning and end of everything. It's everywhere and nowhere. Mana is present in plants, animals and even in your own body. It's simply everywhere. Only a highly skilled mage has the ability to see it and most of you will never see it with your own eyes. Instead, you will learn to feel it, transform it and use it to your desire. The reason only the people present on this campus can use magic is very simple. Only these people are born with the gift of being able to transform mana into magic. Other people can try as they might, but they will never be able to even bend it a single millimeter."

Jake was really happy learning all this kind of stuff as Lucas continued his explanation.

"Now I want all of you to close your eyes and relax. Then try to feel the mana present in your own body."

Jake did as Lucas said, as did every other student in the classroom. He tried to relax and find the thing so-called mana inside his body. Naturally, at first, he had no clue as to what he was searching for so he didn't find anything.

Yet he didn't give up and kept trying more, finding something inside himself he never knew had been there. He relaxed more and more and kept searching deep inside himself.

Then suddenly it was as a new world had opened for him as he could feel the presence of something inside him. It was as if he could feel something strange coursing through his veins, which he just knew, wasn't blood.

No, it was something more magical than that. He knew this strange phenomenon was the thing Lucas called mana. He opened his eyes and looked at his hands. Naturally absolutely nothing had changed in his exterior, but still, he knew that inside himself he found the thing he was looking for.

Lucas glanced at Jake, who was looking at his hands with a surprising look and smiled softly as he saw every other kid still with their eyes closed.

Jake saw that Paul still had his eyes closed and when he looked around he saw everyone was still trying to find it. He got a bit proud of himself for being the first one to succeed, as he kept looking at his classmates.

Then seeing Anna he watched her for a few more seconds before nervously bending his head away. Anna too had opened her eyes and looked straight in his. Jake got embarrassed and looked away.

Not long after more and more kids started to open their eyes as they too had found what they were looking for.

Jake realized it wasn't that hard and he shouldn't act so smugly about something like that.

Lucas seeing everyone had finished the assignment spoke up.

"Good now everyone has succeeded, how about you try to find the mana present in the desk in front of you and then continue with all kinds of objects."

Jake once again focused himself before doing the exact same thing as he had before only now focused his attention on the desk in front of him.
