Chapter(Hundred) Ninety Three: At six

Work hours drifted smoothly as planned and by the end of the shift, Angela was frazzled. She exited the cafe clutching a plastic bag containing unsold muffins left over from the day's sales, that her manager always let her take home as a reward for a hard day's work.

At home, Leigh neither spoke nor glanced at her daughter. But Angela didn't mind the lack of affection that they shared. After twenty-one years of existence, Angela was now somewhat unbothered by Leigh's calloused nature.

Cold silence was always better, unlike when they fought.

The lock clicked as soon as Leigh stepped into the bathroom and Angela knew it was her cue. She ambled to the kitchen, took out a plate then tiptoed to the bedroom where she set two muffins down on a small stool next to the bed for her mother to snack on.

She worked fast and by the time Leigh emerged from the bathroom, Angela was already perched on the living room couch, munching on the rest of her muffins.
