1 Life isn't fair

Life as one of the poor people on earth wasn't a great time for most people. The same was especially true for Tristan. As Tristan sat in his government funded room(couldn't exactly call it an apartment) he was frustrated. His parents had left him with next to nothing after they had died in battle with the Crusaders. The Crusaders where a humanoid race of aliens that thrived on hand to hand combat and had declared war agaisnt humans shortly after humans started exploring space. Because of this war humans had grown and evolved due to many fantasy like creatures and people with abilities coming forward. People that used to get called freaks were known as war heroes. Many people with abilities surfaced and many different options and ways for people to get stronger were found. While there wasn't anything crazy like vampires that people knew of to this point there were many things such as extreme training in martial arts that would unlock somebody's potential. There was many different schools and options one could take, the standard way humans had fought had no effect on the crusaders as bullets and explosives seemed to have no affect on any of them, but an old martial artist who had pushed his body to the limit discovered that through powers of the body he was able to do incredible things and overcome several crusaders during a battle with nothing but his bare hands and what the people who watched the fight could only describe as super powers. This was studies extensively by the human military and the discovered how common powers where with the right training. And then many different families who had crush abilities or secrets came forward to help humanity. There was families who had trained and learned how to fight using unicorns as mounts there was another family who could transform themselves into mythical Griffins who had the body of a powerful lion and the head and wings of an eagle. However for a poor orphan like Tristan he was left with nothing no money to go to a top martial arts school that could teach him martial arts that could unlock an elemental power and no connection to a powerful family that could teach him one of the special hidden skills.

All his parents had left him with was a very large tooth that looked like it came from some sort of prehistoric bear, and a map to a secluded campground in the forest. The problem with both of these things Tristan thought is they were useless and he couldn't leave for that campground until he was 16 years of age and he'd only have two weeks after normal school to be got put to mandatory training for the military. Seemingly useless to him he wore the tooth as a necklace and memorized the map."why me? why couldn't I have been born to a good family with a strong skill?" Tristan thought to himself. Despite this he had just turned 16 and even though he thought it was a waste of time he had planned to travel to this campground in the hope his parents might have secretly left him something that might make his life better. " this better be worth it" Tristan thought as he bought a train ticket and climbed on the cheap rundown passenger train
