Ava leaned back and smiled at the raging bull whose name was Almeru. The man was glaring daggers at her as he stood in front of his sister.

"Is this it Matthew?" Almeru said. "You are going to let this woman disrespect my sister?"

Matthew's face darkened. Seeing this, Almeru continued. "Look, I let you do what you wanted because I was sent by Matthew's brothers. I had a mission. But now…" Almeru growled. "Do you really think you have enough magick to subdue me?"

"Almeru enough…"

To Ava's surprise, Matthew stood in front of her. Her lips twitched. She didn't like it when people tried to protect her when she was perfectly capable of protecting herself. But for some reason, Matthew's actions felt like something different.

She liked it.

She liked seeing his wide back. It felt reassuring, and comforting.
