2 Chapter 1

In a world where thousands of creatures live in the same realm... it's either eat or be eaten. We have no room for the weak and this is a lesson you must learn to survive. Because this savage place is filled with monsters, lurking in the darkness and just waiting until the moment you're vulnerable. It's why humans die so fast. So easily. They just don't know how to protect themselves from something they don't completely understand.

"How 'bout I buy you a drink?" It was a human male beside me that spoke the moment he sat down on the stool to the left.

"Aw, for little ol' me?" My voice was sultry and sexual as I turned toward him.

The man was staring at me with the same lust-filled expression I've seen in every man's eyes. I couldn't blame him, it was in my nature to hunt down weak men like him. For me, they were food. Though, the best prey was the ones that weren't human.

Their flavor and effects were always different.

"Of course, someone as gorgeous as you shouldn't be paying for anythin'. How 'bout we dance after we have a few drinks?" Typical. Pretend to be interested in the woman you're hoping to have a fun night with. What made me burn with irritation was the small band on the special finger humans call "the ring finger".

Marriage. A mating meant to last forever, as the humans swear. At one point in time though, the reactions to cheating back then were... extreme.

For the women, at least.

"You sure your wife won't mind?" I asked with a flirty look on my face.

He would die tonight and it wasn't because of his infidelity but because it was the tainted souls that tasted the best. At least, in my opinion.

We all have our preferences.

The smoky taste of an impure soul always seems to make me feel stronger, not many succubi or incubi prefer it over one considered pure. Young succubi and incubi these days don't know that when you get used to eating tainted souls, you get closer to your true power.

Especially in this land disconnected from the Other world.

The place where we had once all been whole, knowing exactly what your ancestors wished for you to know. Yet a death trap all the same. I guess earth is better because things have become a lot softer than they used to be.

"Honey, she wouldn't mind a thing," A hesitant movement as the thought of what might happen if she were to find out crossed his mind. But one movement of my hand on his thigh erased the worry.

Just as I was about to reply, something caught my attention. It was a man, pale with spiky pale blonde hair and blue contacts.

The disguise wasn't fooling me.

I knew a vampire when I saw one. Then my senses tingled as I look to my left. Another vampire was here but this was one was just a bit closer, not paying attention to me but instead looking around the area as if hunting. There was a clear sign of them trying to stay hidden when they hypnotized humans that dared to look too closely.

I swerved in my seat, leaning against the bar and tilting my head. It was the way they carried themselves. Confident and cold, they had on similar long dark coats that were meant to hide that dark gray outfits underneath. A very familiar uniform.

It seemed that Valentino's authority reached out all over the place. And these weren't just regular soldiers but the men sent to pick up Valentino's special packages. Specially bred and trained leeches, boring but I guess strong in their own right.

Compared to me, everyone I've been surrounded by seems like a baby, so to say.

"Uh, are you okay?" The human I'd been speaking with began talking.

My eyes slid to the side when I saw the vampires moving. Then I looked ahead only to see a young woman walking into the bathroom stalls at a quick but slightly wobbly pace.

Huh.

I think I found something more interesting than a midnight snack.

"Hm, I'll have to take a rain check on that drink. I found my girlfriend I was waiting for," I smirked at him and got up, walking at a steady pace toward the bathroom. Then my eyes shot toward the side, it was a female vampire. A pretty and petite woman I knew well. One of the generals for my father's army.

A predator just like the rest of us.

And if I had to kill her tonight, I would take pleasure in it. A lot of it.

Lucky for me Anais wasn't looking my way. They couldn't sense me; we demons have a few little tricks up our sleeves. Plus, being raised around vampires has helped me learn how to work around them. Instead of picking a fight with her, I kept my head low. I knew that whatever these vampires wanted from this chick wasn't good.

It was never good.

The moment I walked into the bathroom my eyes quickly noted the woman lay unconscious on the floor. Movement in the corner of my eye caused me to look up at the two vampires that seemed to look both professional and yet unnerving at the same time.

Excitement boiled at the fight that would be coming my way and I grinned the moment the shocking expressions fell on their usually stone-cold faces.

"Y-Your Highness, we aren't here for you," The taller one was quick to say as if that mattered.

As if that would stop the anger and need to see their bodies turned to dust.

Just looking at the colors underneath those coats itched my skin the wrong way. A reminder of a past I've left behind a long time ago.

"And I seem to remember why I would care," My voice was cold as I sauntered toward them. Before either of them could blink I ran forward and used one of the vampire's knees to jump onto the other one. My body moved quickly as I wrapped an arm around his throat, I slammed my foot into the vampire that was reaching for me.

His body crashed into the wall, the hole behind him told me that I'd given it too much strength. Oh, but did it feel so good.

With ease, I snapped the neck of the vampire in my arms and then let him fall. Not another thought before I reached behind my back and took out the large enchanted pocket knife from the back of my pocket. Once I stabbed the silver through their hearts, I grabbed the girl and forced her under the sink.

Turning the cold water on, it splashed on her face. Slowly the woman was waking up from the daze and as my hand patted her back, I knew it was helping.

"Come on, lady, wake up already," I muttered, but it was taking longer than I thought. So instead, I concentrated on sending my own energy to her. Pretty tiring and irritating but this woman dying at my father's hand would be another soul on my conscious.

"Oh... god, what happened?" The woman murmured, and I decided the fact that she was on her feet and wobbling was good enough for me.

"You have some very dangerous friends after you, so move your ass and follow me," I tugged on her arm with a tight grip, ignoring the grunt of pain, and pulled her after me.

As I left the bathroom I turned in time to see Anais's blue contact-covered eyes. But looking closely I could see they were already starting to dissolve.

"Vivian..." The surprise in Anais's cold voice only got an eyebrow raise from me.

I said nothing. Though as she looked at the woman behind me then that cold look seemed to remember the things that happened in the past.

We weren't on the same side anymore.

"Hand her over, you don't want to make your father angrier than he already is," She narrowed a cold gaze at me.

Tapping my foot, I pretended to act as if I was thinking about it.

"I came out hunting tonight and then I saw a small little rabbit," I pulled the human to my chest. "And noticed the mean and angry wolves chasing after her... how I could I resist in taking their meal right from under their noses?"

"Are you comparing us to those dogs?" A close look at her stony face wouldn't have told you anything, you'd have to listen to the small tone in the back of that firm voice. She was insulted.

"It isn't like either of you smell better than the other, one smells of a wet dog while the others lather in the scent of death. Rabbits though... it's almost like they have perfume, right?" Not that I would know, I've got no interest in blood or the odor of other women.

Sure, I'm down with either gender but I prefer the taste of men more. Humans though? I don't usually let it get too far for that to even matter.

My hand patted the girl's wet but silky brown hair, never looking away from the vampire in front of me. Anais tensed up, as if afraid of what I would do. Oh, of course, I could just kill the little lady but when I touched the cold skin of her cheek by accident, I knew she wasn't just a regular human.

There was a feeling of... searching. Like the girl was trying to find something in me with just a touch of skin. My mental walls came crashing down on instinct, not too eager to show anything to anyone I don't know. Sister or not.

"And I'm most definitely interested in the little rabbit so... unless you want a death sentence tonight, I suggest you get out of my sight," My voice was firm but had a hint of amusement in it.

When she began fading away into the crowd, I began pulling the woman with me again, Anais never strayed too far.

"P-Please, I n-need your help,"

Uh, no.

Not my forte.

The only thing I would be doing was send her somewhere I knew maybe she'd get help. Not babysit and get rid of her problems. Especially not since I have my own. Surely Anais would tell my father what happened today. It would definitely ruin some of his plans and that made me happy, for the moment. I needed to get out of this city now. My location was blown.

Instead of responding to the woman, I started making my way to the exit of the club when there was a scream. Spinning around, I saw a large vampire sinking his fangs into the neck of a young man. My heart went cold.

"Oh, gods," The human in my arms whispered and gripped me in fear.

The ball was in my court, but this was ridiculous.

They weren't supposed to be attacking people in public. It would give other roaming vampires the courage to pursue their steps. When you find one ant, there are surely others to follow.

Perhaps it was about 8 vampires now, only three willing to break rules.

Anais though, nowhere to be seen.

The screams were outrageous, and I frowned, looking down at the woman. All that food in there being wasted on leeches for this thing? Maybe I should just toss her ass out there, negotiate with Anais to keep my current location for a moment. Or... I could torture my father and-

"Stop!" It was a strong voice so deep and chilling that I could just imagine him saying my name. If he were I bet it would be a definite turn-on.

Then I decided to turn around and there he was a tall and intimidating man that held a power that hummed in the air. Healthy waves of black hair fell down his head, not making it past his neck. Light green eyes that reminded me of peridot jewels looked around the club. I lowered my head and allowed my hair to fall like a curtain, hiding my face. This man was no regular man with all that packed muscle that made me itch to touch it.

Yea, that air around him was a dominating one that whispered to me about the strength inside. I was in unknown territory now.

"What is happening?" The female human whimpered next to me. I narrowed my eyes; this woman was about to get me into trouble I don't need.

"Why the fuck are there vampires in my club?" The green-eyed man growled out and I could feel his angry heat from all the way down here.

And that's my queue to get lost.

Instead of bringing the woman with me, I let go of her. For a moment she stumbled but somehow managed to stand up a bit straighter than before. Good for her. Now all she needed to do was be smart and figure something out. This wasn't my problem to solve.

The doors to the club were opened, the bouncers had stopped people from coming inside. And it was strange because everyone just stood there. Even after the people in the club started screaming. I guess Anais mind fucked them.

Either way, no skin off my back.

So just like that I turned and walked right out the doors, ignoring the shout for me to stop.

Stop? I'm not the domesticated dog that would stay on command like the ones in that building. I guess you could say I would be the cat, in this situation.

Fuck what you have to say, I'll do what I want.

"Woman, stop where you are. Or we'll ha- oh shit!"

The moment I was outside, my wings naturally unfurled. Large dark grey leathery wings made it easy to jump off the floor and soar through the night. I was gone and there wasn't much they could do about it.

When it came to flying, nothing could catch me.
