16 Chapter 15

Vivian's POV:

"So... when are we going to talk about Cole coming out of your room this morning?" Ivy's voice cut through the peace that had almost put me back to sleep.

I'd awoken in a good mood when I felt arms wrapped around me and such affectionate energy floating in the room. It was too hard not to feed off of it. Ivy had knocked on the door to wake me up so we can pick up Nyx from the airport but I'd almost fallen back to sleep. That is until Cole had gently turned my body around to make sure I was awake.

I savored it... because, with my luck, this blissful feeling will only be temporary.

"Do we have to? I mean, there isn't much to talk about seeing as how we didn't have sex," Which I'm not as upset about as I had thought. Cole had made sure I fed before he had left so sex isn't so immediate right now. There's no way either of us will be able to keep this up though.

Though my energy will grow throughout the next few days, it won't end well. I've seen what happens when you start a succubus of its natural nature to satisfy the need to be satisfied sexually.

"What? Is this something they're depriving you of because they won't let you go eat?" Ivy narrowed her eyes in annoyance and I can know exactly who it was for.

"No, no I don't have to have sex to feed, it's just... I don't know, I've felt weird since the night I ran into Anais," I rushed to explain to her, hoping that I didn't add onto the pile of reasons Ivy hates Cole and his men.

Things are already bad, why make it worse? Because even though I hadn't lied, I also hadn't told the full truth. Ever since the night that I ran into Anais... and Cole, things have felt weird. I've allowed Cole to distract me so much so that I've forgotten. I haven't thought about getting into bed with someone since the first night I came into this city.

My appetite is ruined or something, maybe it's because of the blood bond. Whatever it is, is making me feel less and less like myself every day. As Ivy pulled into the parking lot of the airport the hairs on the back of my neck rose a second before the thick scent of blood filled the air. The thought of Nyx being in trouble had my heart racing in panic.

"What do you feel, Ivy?" I asked her softly while unbuckling the seatbelt as we parked.

Besides a bunch of empty cars, the area around us was empty.

"It feels disgusting... they're dead yet alive, whatever we're about to run into is infused with magic," Ivy spoke low but I heard her clearly as my stomach dropped in worry. Without hesitation, I carefully picked Ivy up before speeding us across the parking lot and shoving past the doors.

The scent of fresh blood inside smelled sweet and thick as my eyes swept over the horrid scene that had Ivy gasp in surprise.

There was a pile of bodies that belonged to either men, women, or children. Just the sight made me look away with a sad look on my face and I could do nothing as Ivy covered her mouth. It was the sight of a little boy's head crushed under so many limbs that had her heaving out nothing. My stomach lurched at the gruesome scene but that was as far as it went. Unfortunately, it would take a lot more than something like this to make me gag or throw up.

This is nothing but another tragedy to add to an already long list.

"Oh, gods..." Ivy whispered, moving her hand from that pretty mouth to put it on her forehead. It was as though the natural glow she always had was gone and now you could see just how tired Ivy is. Her skin was pale with practically unnoticeable dark marks under her slightly reddened eyes from lack of sleep.

I wanted to tell Ivy to go back into the car and relax but the thought of Nyx getting killed forced me to have let other priorities take a backseat.

"Ivy..." Her name fell from my lips as I gave her a worried look.

"I know, I know. I've got this, go find Nightling," Ivy jerked her head further into the building, toward the terminal where blood was practically dripping off of everything.

Even though Ivy looked tired, I had no choice but to run off toward the hall leading out to the terminal. My feet felt lighter than feathers as I ran at an inhuman speed and even though I could faster, I didn't want to miss the chance of passing up Nyx.

As soon as I got outside the bones between my shoulder blades sprouted from my back, forming into wings moments before I jumped into the air.

The wind blew my hair around as my wings cut through the cold air as I took a look around the area outside of the airport buildings. My eyes searched below without slowing down the speed but it only took a moment before I zoned in on a Nyx's figure running.

Behind her was a disgusting creature with flesh that was a smooth and leathery pink, reminding me of chewed-up gum. Those red eyes aimed at nothing but Nyx, who didn't dare to look backward as she ran toward the edge of the property belonging to the airport.

Without hesitation, I dove downwards toward her and as soon as I was right behind Nyx, I swooped her into my arms before flying higher.

"Holy shit, Vivian! Not so fast!" Nyx gasped as her arms wrapped around my neck for better stability, that strange creature following after us from the ground. Determined to lay those disgusting teeth in that rounded mouth into one of my best friends.

A searing pain rushed up from my ankle, encasing my leg in a burn that seemed to only grow hotter. Fortunately, heat has always been an element on my side so all it felt was a bit uncomfortable.

"What the hell?" I huffed out as I stopped us mid-flight, looking down at my left foot to see a small scrape right above the ankle. Dark blood flooded through it with traces of gold swimming in it, signs of being poisoned. Now that we weren't flying anymore, the scent of an open wound on Nyx had me look toward her small body.

Blood soaked the thin jacket she'd worn was ripped into by three claw marks and it was dripping onto her blue jeans. Sweat dripped from her forehead but I don't think it was from running since that seems to be a part of Nyx's everyday life. Those amber eyes seemed to get lower with each blink she took and I couldn't help but grow concerned. Just as my wings moved to get us back to Ivy, there was a tight grip on my arm that made me raise an eyebrow at her.

"Vivian, if that thing is left alone the poison will be fatal to humans. It will call its brethren and it'll be a massacre," Nyx gave me a pleading look that I wanted to ignore. Staying here to deal with something that isn't my problem means more time away from Ivy, who could be in danger. There isn't any reason for me to help the mortals- wait... there is.

Oriness.

No longer do I have just Nyx and Ivy to worry about but a mortal little sister that's probably still asleep right now. Safe in the house... until she ever decides to go outside when these things are out.

Fuck.

Nyx has never led me wrong before... so I have no choice but to blindly follow her once again. Not that I have an issue with that it's just hard.

Having no choice but to sit back and put my faith in both of them.
