3 First Kiss of Death (1)

"Wait! Dad is …"

I wanted to stop and called for Dad, asked him to run along. But the scene I witnessed stopped my voice, and my legs started to run again, following Mom's footsteps. We went to the back door and got out. Mom's hand was still gripping mine tightly. Her fingers were cold as ice, still they were strongly forcing me to run along her. Mom hold on Karen by other hand. Karen was perfectly pale, her reddish lips tuned grey.

And mercilessly, a realisation stroked me, froze my legs saat itu juga. Dad is … dead. What I saw back then, those dark coated attackers were not human. They were monster that look almost human. No. Those weren't even close to human. No human would attack people by biting on the neck like a lion devouring its prey.

"Key! What are you doing? Run!" Mom yelled at me.

I didn't even need to ask to know that Mom was seeing the very same scene as I did. Her face was filled with tears flew from both of her beautiful lazuli blue eyes.

Mom took my hand, started to drag me with her again. But her steps stopped at the face of terror which had enveloped entire city. Loud screams of death came from every direction, from the row of the houses, and public places like shops and restaurants. Under light of thousand lamps, red stain splattered everywhere. Even police officers were helplessly attacked by those monstrous creatures.

Dead bodies lied along streetside. Their skin turned bluish and dried, as if they were drained from blood. It wouldn't take long for me to realise that they really were drained of blood.

My gaze stopped at a scooper standing on streetside. I called for Mom and told her to wait for a moment. Then I ran toward the scooper, pulled out a hairpin and inserted it on the key hole. Four seconds were all I need to successfully started the engine.

I turned to Mom, ready bring us to flee. But then Mom stammered voice hit me coldly, like a whisper from a faraway place.

"G-go, Key! Protect Karen!"

"What- …?" I was going to ask what she mean. But some moving dark figures captured by the corner of my eyes told me everything.

"Hurry up, run!! Now!!!" Mom screamed upon her lungs.

I grabbed Karen's hand, push her to sit on the backseat. She was petrified with empty gaze, looking up into nothing. Hurriedly I sat on the front seat and drove away, as fast as I could manage. I went faster, and never lowered the speed. Never turned around nor stole glance at rear view mirror. Pretended to not see anything, to not hear anything. Acted like I never saw the dead bodies lied down on the street sides. Like never heard the last screaming full of terror. Even when they were everywhere through the city.

Faster. Faster. I didn't even know where I was going to go. And how much time had passed since I flee by myself like crazy. When the scooter stopped from empty fuel, we were already far away from the capital centre. I parked at a forest entrance.

I scanned the woods through dark. It was pine forest. It seemed like we were somewhere on the countryside. May be.

Karen was still petrified, unable to move a muscle. Seemed her consciousness had been torn apart by the terror we just witnessed. I was wondering for a while if she was even breathing fine. Unfortunately, there was no time to asked her.

Dragged Karen along, I began run between pines. It was dark and quiet. But it didn't matter for me, since I was familiar with forest, although it was my first time to enter it at night. I tried to predict our direction, relied on instinct. Wished that there was some luck left for us. Like, at least things wouldn't turn any worse than now. (But few minutes were all it took for my little wish to be scattered).

About ten minutes we were running, I spotted a cave, hidden behind some tall brasses. Then I took Karen there, hide ourselves inside total darkness inside the cave. The ground on cave's floor was moist, but there were dry leaves and twigs that would create voices if we move. I whispered to Karen, telling her to hold breath and not make any move.

Minutes passed. There was only silence. An eerie silence that generated goosebump.

Yes, it was the same silence as before.

Five minutes or so had passed—I forgot my count. And I doubted that Karen was still breathing. But before I could turn around to check on her, a tall figure stood by the cave's entrance. I didn't even realise since when he was there. There were no sound of any footstep coming. Did it mean that this monster didn't even stand on the ground at all? Or were they not part of this real world?

One thing I knew for sure, was that the monster called as vampire.

I took my handgun, hold it tightly till my fingers hurt. Instinctively, tried to cover Karen behind my back.

"Look at this! What did I find here? Such a nice dessert." The pale and long faced vampire began to speak. His voice was deep and creepy, echoed by the cave's stone wall. His dark irises gazed at us with high appetite. "So, for your own sake, better tell me honestly who the blood's descendant?"

'Descendant what?' I thought while observing the vampire that stood under silverish moonlight at cave's entrance. He looked like a normal human, except for his two slightly longer fangs seen between his lips. And his skin was so pale that it almost seemed transparent.

"What are you talking about? Are … you looking for me?"
