19 Chapter 19

Just a few moments later both Katryn and Brento walked in. Katryn had tears in her eyes as her and Philip hugged. While Maddox was Clara's father, she just didn't feel that connected to him yet and it really wasn't the same for her so she just stood aside.

"We should get Emmett to help enhance you," Brento whispered it to Clara as to not interrupt Philip and Katryn moment.

"Annabeth would be better. Her main one is enhancing so it would be stronger," Clara stayed in the chair staring at the ceiling just thinking really. Nothing in particular.

"While that may be true, Emmett would also be great emotional support," Brento again whispered.

"Whatever I don't really care who you get in here. Just need someone," she mumbled as she stood up and walked out to the hallway, kept walking a little down the way too. She sat on a section of the floor and let out a sigh of some relief. That didn't really last very long though.

"Really? Clara this is a new low for you honestly," Scarlett said in between laughing as she looked down at Clara.

"I don't wanna hear it Scarlett, just back off. You really don't get it do you? Why the council keeps such a close eye on me?" Clara stood up and began to walk away but turned around quickly. "Think about that before you mess with me again because I won't be so kind next time. Especially if it's like right now." And Clara walked off, back down the winding halls but not to her telepathic. She went and found Avery's with a small track, nothing in depth that would reveal what he was thinking. She caught him before he walked.

"Clara? What's wrong?" Avery instantly knew something was wrong and Clara just slumped down the wall again.

"It's Maddox, he was taken because of me," she said it so freely now. No guards, no one except her an Avery. She didn't even know how she managed to get away with no guard.

"He wasn't taken because of you Clara. Sometimes people can work around their guilt and do horrible things." Avery tried to explain but it just caused Clara to cry.

"Those people are after me. The only reason they took Maddox was to get to me. They have a way to disable my powers so I can't do anything to help," she said between sobs and gasping sounds kind of.

"Clara it isn't your fault okay? You can't control the actions of others but we can maybe help Maddox." He'd wrapped an arm around Clara. She forgot that Emmett would show up to her telepath class for everyone there but her. That would be awkward.

"I know it's not my fault but it is still caused from me. How am I supposed to help Maddox if I can't do anything against them huh? My abilities are useless and that's what I rely on and everyone around me. I know you have before," She was still sobbing. Honestly couldn't believe she was crying so hard in front of Avery.. she'd never truly cried in front of anyone. Clara didn't feel like she had to be strong in front of Avery, didn't have to be this all knowing person.

"Clara we will figure it out. Who knows about what's going on?"

"Brento, my family and my telepath professor know, you too know. I just don't understand why this is happening to me. Out of everyone why couldn't they just take me? Maddox has nothing to do with it," Clara was so frustrated and just upset beyond belief.

"Because they wanted to get to you and it seems to be working. Let's go back to telepath class and work with everyone okay? They have to be getting someone who can help at this point," Avery stood up and held his hand out for her. She took it slowly and got up steadily.

"That's the issue. The only person who can reach him is me.. he made it so telepaths couldn't see anything in his mind and at the same time made him invisible to any normal telepath. I think he might be in his subconscious so if I can enter it maybe it'll keep me safe too," Clara talked in a quick manner and began heading back to the classroom. Emmett was there waiting for her and her guards too.

"You need to stop running off Clara! Especially right now with your father being kidnapped and them wanting you!" Galor yelled at Clara actually which made Avery upset.

"You do realize she is going through something herself right? She doesn't understand her feelings because she doesn't understand her relationships right now. Galor you are so insensitive," Avery snapped back before leading Clara into the room.

"Clara you gotta find dad please. None of us can track him and you should have done that before running off," Philip was so harsh too. Clara guessed that would be expected. "I will try my best to follow you and cling to your mental mind traveling so I can talk to dad as well."

"Not a safe idea. The more of us there are the more detectable we become. I am using Avery as a guide and that's the end of it. Anyone has a problem they can stuff it. Emmett you'll be enhancing both of us, I know it'll take a toll but I need a guide out of Maddox's subconscious or we'll both be stuck," Clara got it all out before letting anyone else talk.

"You are using me Clara not him," Philip said in anger.

"You don't choose that for me. You have an issue you can leave, Philip. I don't see you as family yet but I do care. I'm the only one who can do this, even being enhanced it'll be a major challenge." Clara went over to a seat and totally forgot she still have Avery's had so he just reluctantly followed.

"okay so I'm enhancing both? I thought I was just enhancing Clara," Emmett was a little puzzled but that's fine.

"Yes both. I need a guide or I won't be able to find my way out of the subconscious. I need to find a word to trigger it too, I think. To make that part trust me enough." Avery sat next to Clara and Emmett joined. They were all linked by hand. "Avery be ready.. it's gonna get loud," she went back. With the enhancing it was crazy. She was hearing everything and wasn't even trying.

"Woah you were right. This is why you hate being enhanced huh?" Avery's voice filled the fog of voices happening.

"Yup. This isn't the loud part," Clara cupped her hands around her face. "Maddox!" She began shouting. She felt Avery's hand grip hers hard as the volume intensified. "Maddox please! I have a plan to make it safe! I need you Maddox, I am scared!" and then he appeared. The glowing ball of light in the never ending darkness.

"Don't be scared Clara. I told you not to contact me again," his voice was so incredibly weak. Something was incredibly wrong on his side now.

"But I have an idea. You just have to trust me enough," Clara smiled and held out her hand. It took him a second but he did. "I'm gonna get you out of here okay?"

"Okay Clara. I trust you," and with the words she went into his subconscious. A crazy place that telepaths tend to avoid because of how insane it was. Clara was there though she was ready.

"Maddox I need you to show me where you are, " a portal popped up when she said that. "Oh that's not good... but how am I talking to you then?"

"I don't know Clara. I thought you were here in your old world. You are in our world though, aren't you?"

"I am. I don't think they can track me even if they wanted to. Avery did you hear?"

"Avery's here?"

"Only in my head, don't worry yours is safe with me."

"I am not worried Clara. I trust you," Maddox was smiling but it went away quickly with a loud grunt.

"Clara I heard. Sorry I was telling the telepath professor to leave.. she doesn't need to know the extent of your telepath, no one does okay? You are mumbling everything you say though so it was just best to make everyone leave, and I mean everyone."

"Everyone?" Maddox had a puzzled look as he knelt on the ground. "Katryn? Philip?"

"Of course they are here Maddox, they wouldn't be anywhere else. It was safer for everyone to be at the school," Clara smiled but he didn't.

"The school is no longer safe. You must leave there immediately. Go into your old world and work from there. Much harder to do anything in this world," he made some sense but there was a lot of blabber in between.

"Maddox are you hurt?" Clara stepped closer and held out her hand. "let me heal your mind from the pain."

"No, pain means I'm alive and this, this is real Clara." Instead of taking her hand, he hugged her.

"Clara you are starting to loose the connection with me," Avery's voice was fading and so Clara stepped back. "Clara!" she could hear in the distance.

"You can still leave but now we are truly alone so I can tell you why you are in so much danger," Maddox must have imagined a chair because there it was.

"The sword. I know what my job is Maddox. I know," Clara said quietly.

"Who told you?" he was thoroughly confused at that.

"Brento. He showed me the truth. I know where the sword is hidden too now," Clara looked around at his subconscious one last time and smiled. "It is time for me to leave to get everyone to safety. Please know that since I have been in here we have a lasting bond and you need me for anything, even to just talk tell me."

"I will Clara. See you soon," he kissed her cheek and she faded out of his subconscious and back into the never ending darkness of minds.

"Clara!!" Avery was yelling using telepath to try and reach her. She was also being violently shaked.

"I'm fine calm down," Clara swatted away Emmett's hands and laughed. "Sorry, that was all Maddox. He wanted to talk alone and kicked you out which I didn't even realize he was able to control that."

"Really? That's not funny! I swear he could have gotten you stuck in there," Avery was so annoyed. When he was ranting, Clara swore she could head Maddox laugh and honestly he probably was.

"It is very funny from my viewpoint but I am fine. Actually being in his subconscious gave me a link to follow whenever I need to find him, " Clara was very casual about it but it freaked Avery out.

"Is it one way??"

"Yeah, I can hear him because he is in his subconscious. Once he leaves I don't think the bound will last anymore."

"Well that's good. Anyways what did he want to talk to you about?"

"A secret not meant to be shared," was all Clara said as she stood up.

"We need to head to the other world. Maddox said it's too dangerous here and they can't do anything to use in my old world, so that's where we go. Plus he's there so I can actually track him."

"What do you mean he's there? You wouldn't have been able to talk to him," Brento was pacing a little. Probably because of Maddox's little trick.

"Is it a different dimensional plane or is it a different planet?"

"Different planet... no way," Brento was utterly shocked.

"Who knows how far it is but I was hardly able to communicate with him without a boost so we gotta go there. Soon too, with me here the school is in danger. Send everyone home immediately, just say an alchemist accident happened." Clara stretched and looked around at their group. "Sorry Sachell and Galor, you guys can't come."

"If you think you are-" Galor was cut off but Sachell. "Of course but Avery and Emmett you are charged with taking care of her."

"Of course," Avery basically pulled Clara against him and Emmett just nodded.

"So how many exactly are going?" Brento looked concerned but Clara wasn't.

"It's only six Brento. It's gotta be all of us. We can do this if we work together," Clara smiled and all together they left, Sachell and Galor were to stay at the school until it was evacuated and then do so themselves.

Everyone was ready within minutes to head over to Clara's world. She was wearing what she wore last time and sighed. "Warning, people from the other world will hit on you and yeah. Just ignore it, Katryn and I are at risk for the worst of it."

"That is true," Avery sighed and grabbed Clara's hand, Emmett grabbed the other.

"Well let's go," Brento opened a portal to the other world.

Together Emmett, Avery and Clara walked through the portal. It was the same alley as before but a little grosser. "We need money and with your diets, a decent amount of it too." Clara looked around and found a person quickly, obviously since it was New York City but a person she could kind of mess with to get the money. It was a horrible thing but they desperately needed that money.
