The Hungry Intruder

The air is quiet and it feels like the temperature has dropped by degrees. I am feeling goosebumps down my skin.

There is someone inside my apartment now.

My phone battery is dead. I can't even call the police in case of an emergency.

I had been sleeping peacefully after a heavy work day and accidentally forgot to lock the door.

Unaware of that, I dipped myself into sweet dreams only to be awakened by the sound of clanking and chopping knives.

Clink… Clink… Khatch…

I don't dare make any sound to alert whoever it is. With a hockey stick from the old collections of my brother, I slowly move to identify the intruder…

… and probably bash his skull in if he isn't someone likable.

The sound of clanking soon turned into those of scratching and low-pitched grunts after a sound that seemed as if someone threw a butcher's knife on a piece of the wooden block.

The closer I got to the kitchen corridor, the grunting and scratching noise intensified and so did my uneasiness and heartbeat.

The lights of the kitchen were on and a shadow could be seen raising and dropping its hands.

Should I just turn around, lock the door and come again with someone as backup? That thought came to my mind but, no one suitable lived in the neighborhood to help me.

I can't even switch on the lights lest it alerts the intruder.

I am around the corner of the kitchen door now.

I just have to look inside now. However, something seems strange. The noise has now slowly turned into wailing and grunting as if someone was suffering through torture with a gagged mouth. The unpleasant ugliness in the voice could never be expressed in words.

Moreover, there was an even more unpleasant stench that would make you vomit out every last grain you have eaten. It was as if someone threw a mountain heap of long-dead, wild rats in a garbage dump.

Falling sounds came. A barbarously half-chewed onion rolled out of the kitchen.

As my eyes wandered around from the onion, I noticed a large silver trophy showcased in a cupboard made of oiled brownish crimson wood.

My eyes widened as I saw the ghastly distorted monster inside the reflection of the trophy, with his whole large and thin body rotten black and his sharp bones protruding out from his arms and other limbs digging further into his already non-existent stomach with charred black floating ribs visible. The scariest part, his eyes had already met mine.

I immediately dash to the door to leave this God-forsaken apartment. However, fate didn't seem to have survival in store for me.

I feel something wrap around my ankles as I extend my body toward the door. It pulls me in with a powerful jerk and I see myself thrown out to the wall at the opposite side of the hall.

The monster slowly walks out of the kitchen. I can feel my vision fading with red color.

However I see it clearer than ever, its empty eye sockets, its wide split open mouth with black watery drool, and an emptiness in his body that only held a pitch black still beating heart in the open.

Turning back to its face, I see a wide huge grin formed by billions of razor-sharp teeth.
