2 CHAPTER TWO: MEMORY LOSS

A loud piercing scream makes its way out of my mouth as the car continues to tumble down the rocky mountain. The pain of being thrown up, down and sideways because l was is such a hurry that l forgot to wear my seatbelt is unbearable. With every passing second, l drift further and further into unconsciousness and the pain becomes more bearable. The last thing l hear is the sound of water running down a stream before the car falls as if snatched by gravity to the saline below. The water caresses my brittled body edging me further into unconsciousness.

Waking up to the feeling of warmth enveloping my very being brings comfort to my heart. The soft feather like fortress in which my body lay upon brings a soothing relief to my aching back. The sound of waterfalls can be heard in the distance creating the illusion of a soothing lullaby. My body and mind are in unison. I have no desire of leaving the comfort that envelops me like a warm hug. However as the seconds go by, the feeling of being suffocated jolts me awake gasping for air.

Taking a look at my surroundings, the unfamiliarity of it all cause a wave of fear to erupt within me. I try to scream out for help but my voice gets stuck in my throat. I look around a bit more only to find that l am alone. The room l currently am in is spacious to say the least. The walls are painted an off white as well as the furniture in the room. There are two door on the far right of the room close to the doors that lead to the balcony. On the other side of the room are french windows that give an amazing view of the forest.

Not wanting to alert whoever brought me here of my consciousness, l get up off the bed as quietly as l can despite the cries of disapproval coming from my body as a piercing screams makes its way out of my mouth.

Silently cursing, so much for not drawing attention to myself, l watch as the door to what appears to be the bedroom is wrenched open. A woman who seems to be in her late fifties walks into the room carrying a tray of steaming hot food. I immediately make my way back to the bed not wanting to make a bad first impression. Who wants to be found snooping around a place that isn't their own. It's even worse for me because l was trying to escape.

"Ah darling, l see you awake now." every word that comes out of her mouth brings a sense of comfort to my beating heart. " where am l?" is the only thing that makes sense to be spoken in such a situation .

" don't worry your little head about that. Master found you in the woods and brought you here two days ago" TWO FREAKING DAYS AGO! I try searching my brain for some sort of explanation as to what is going but come up with none. My mind is blank.

" I need to know where we are so l can get out of here." l say to the lady whose name l still have yet to learn.

"lm so sorry darling but you wont be able to leave because the Master is not here today." she says in the most apologetic way possible.

"Master, who is Master" l ask confusion lacing my voice.

"The owner of this house" she says with a half chuckle

"eat now and rest, you have a long road of recovery ahead" she says placing the tray on my lap. My stomach chooses that exact moment to grumble. Glancing at the tray on my lap, my mouth waters at the pure sight of the delicacies in front of me. There is a fruit salad in a bowl, a plate of toast, eggs, bacon, sausage with a cup of milk. I empty out the plate in a matter of seconds and the lady is less than impressed by my mannerisms.

"slow down, the food wont run away. We wouldn't want you choking" she says jokingly trying to ease the tension in the room. I give out a small forced chuckle to not seem rude.

"well, l have to get back to my chores. I will be back in a short while to see if you need anything. Rest up dear." she said tucking me into bed and softly running her fingers through my nearly bold head.

She doesn't come like she had promised and l can't help but feel a little disappointed. I would have sworn that she is a woman of her word. What else gives a person more honour. The presence of the woman provided me with a feeling of safety in this unfamiliar situation. I sit in bed for a few more minutes before making the decision to look around the place lm in. A wise man always said to familiarise yourself with your surroundings especially when you find yourself in a situation similar to the one l man. So that should you need an easy way to escape, you know all the corners to cut to get your freedom. With a sound conviction, l gather the strength and confidence to leave the confines of 'my' bedroom.

Leaving the room, l wander about the billion corridors and doors until l stumble upon what seems to be the library. Rows upon rows of shelves sit stacked with a multitude of books. I find myself in the history section and l skim through the multiple titles until my hand stumbles upon an ancient looking book called the formation of Arendale. The thirst of knowledge surges through me and before l can open the book the door of the library is slammed open. Turning around to see the person who has kindly graced me with their presence, the book falls out my hand and onto the floor with a loud thud that echoes through the walls of the library.
